This is and OLD Maine house, on a working harbor, just above Kent's Wharf, the oldest lobster pound on the coast. The view includes the eastern and western entrances to Burnt Coat Harbor around Harbor Island, owned for generations by the Forbes family, a fleet of lobster boats, and sailboats that anchor in the evenings. The house has cable tv and wifi, and is filled with books, art and movies (several hundred dvd's and hundreds of vhs sets. The kitchen and pantry have espresso machine, Keurig, drip coffee maker and French press. There are two bicycles at the house and two kayaks. Besides the two upstairs bedrooms (a small deck off the harborside bedroom), there is a large attached structure that was once, during the early to mid twentieth century, a country store. This room is now a catchall ---- studio, shop, reading room, bedroom, Franklin stove, etc. The house is attached to its own harbor frontage by a path to the front and left of the house, under apple, pear and cherry trees. The Island has a fine white sand beach, a fresh water swimming quarry, miles of hiking trails, a beautifully restored lighthouse, and sailing and boating activities. There is one small grocery store, TIMS, which somehow manages to have everything, with a takeout restaurant attached (adjacent field has picnic tables). Once the home of an indigenous Indian tribe the Island was settled by Col. James Swan, a Revolutionary War figure. There is a wonderful school, two fire stations with trained emergency personnel, a day care center and a health center. Several small shops with locally made goods are scattered around the Island, there is a large library with a media center, (always has a full schedule of activities including classes, lectures, kid activities, exhibits, etc.), and don't miss a visit to the Saturn Press next door which ships its handmade cards and other materials worldwide. During summer months there is a community breakfast every Sunday morning, and constant activities --- dances, plays, art walk, and every August the Sweet Chariot Music Festival ( There is a Town Office which houses the Post Office, The Police Office, the Town Fathers and the Town Clerk. You can get more info on the Island through Google.
