This was our second stay at the Van Clief home in Venice, Florida and
once again we appreciated the owners' attention to detail in creating a comfortable and relaxing ambience in their magnificent vacation residence. Their home is well-maintained inside and out and features a pool overlooking a lagoon that is home to a variety of shorebirds who visit on a daily basis.
The Venice area is renowned for its sparkling Gulf Coast beaches, which my wife and I enjoyed each day, subsequently returning to the property to relax by the pool with drinks and snacks in hand.
Daily bike rides along the Venetian waterway prepared me to savor with my wife the magnificent variety of restaurants serving the area, in particular Marker 4, Sharkey's On the Pier, and Fins.
We look forward to returning annually to the Van Clief Vacation Home in order to enjoy its many charming features and to relax during yet another first-rate Gulf Coast getaway.
Nicely designed, comfortable home-several dining/activity areas but also quiet corners for reading. Landscaped lot gives some privacy in a dense, but quiet, neighborhood. Backs onto a canal-we enjoyed watching birds and turtles from pool deck. Close to Caspersen beach and Venice/Sarasota activities. Responsive property manager. The property is older in some ways, but, all in all, we enjoyed a quiet, relaxing vacation and look forward to a return.
I don't really understand how anyone could give this house 4 or 5 stars. It does not deserve that high of a rating.
First I'll start with the good points, because there ARE some. The location is fantastic. You're close to everything: lots of good restaurants on rt. 41, downtown Venice, the beaches, the airfield where it's fun to watch the small planes, cute shops, big box stores, and rt. 75 when you want to head further afield. The house is spacious with several seating areas. It is situated on a small lake, right off the lanai, and it was nice to watch the birds. Also, the surrounding neighbors were extremely quiet! The beds were fine, the kitchen was adequate. The wireless Internet worked fine, but if tv is important to you, you should know that is not HD and gets only basic channels. The manager as well as the owner are very responsive, so you will get their immediate attention if you have any problems.
However: The house is gloomy. It gets very little sunlight and you need lamps on throughout the day. The furnishings and decor are older and very dated. The livingroom rug is filthy and torn.
The bbq grill works well but is too small to cook for more than 4 people at a time and was filthy when we arrived.
There is a screened room off the lanai. It is dark and gloomy even on the brightest days. When it rains hard, the floor of the room floods. The owner acknowledged the problem. Unfortunately, the only way to access the lanai is through that room, so after a night of rain we had to step through a huge 1/4” deep puddle to get into or off of the lanai. That probably also explains the slight musty smell in that room. It took me quite a while to mop up the water, which is not how I wanted to spend my vacation time.
The biggest disappointment was the furniture in the lanai area. Cheap, filthy, resin. Nothing I would be willing to sit on both because of the embedded dirt and because it would be uncomfortable. We covered the filthy table with a plastic tablecloth, and brought out some of the decent upright chairs that were in the screened room, but there was nothing comfortable to lounge on by the pool, and that cut into our enjoyment of the lanai considerably.
To be fair, I will say that the rent was at least 25% cheaper than other homes we've rented that were much nicer. You get what you pay for.

This house was awesome, beautiful home, very comfortable, loved everything about it. We stayed 7 nights and wish it could have been 14.
The Van Clief vacation home provided a perfect spring getaway for me and my wife from our home in upstate New York. This Venice property is characterized by exquisite and tasteful décor in each of its distinctive living room, kitchen and sitting areas. The Florida room overlooks a backyard lagoon, where several waterfowl could be seen sunning on the dock or strolling over the lawn. Poolside was a favorite spot after sunning and swimming at one of the spectacular Gulf beaches located throughout the Venice area. As an avid cyclist, I was able to take advantage of the innumerable trails, including the Venetian Waterway Park and the Legacy Trail.
We will most definitely plan a return visit to the Van Clief Vacation Home in the near future and will look forward to once again enjoying the spectacular amenities that the owners have thoughtfully provided for their guests.
Em um determinado fim de semana você pode ir a caça do negócio em uma infinidade de vendas quintal / garagem, ou até mesmo o Flea Market Dome. Prefere teatro ao vivo, vá para nossa própria premiado Venice Theatre, apresentando produções teatrais ao vivo para todos os apetites teatral. Você com certeza vai querer verificar para fora as lojas e restaurantes na Ilha de Veneza também. Enquanto aqui, não se esqueça de verificar Shamrock Park também.

Peak Season is defined as that period during which travel to Florida is at its greatest. Please note that there is a $200.00 refundable damage deposit that is returned within 30 days of your departure assuming no damages beyond normal wear and tear.
Off Peak Season is defined as that period during which tourist and vacation traffic tends to tail off.
50% of the total rental fee is required at time of booking.
The remaining balance of rent, cleaning fee, taxes, and refundable damage deposit is due and payable 60 days prior to your arrival date.
Payments are made by check or money order and mailed to the property manager. Address supplied along with rental agreement.
