This home is very well maintained, great location between Hilo and Kona. Easy access to a beach with great snorkeling. The outdoor shower with the stars above is a must.
We really enjoyed this wonderful home. Very nicely outfitted with all the comforts of home. Views are fantastic. All the snorkeling and activity gear you would need is provided. Black pebble beach within walking distance down a steep hill. 20min to the famed 'two step' snorkeling spot next to the 'Place of Refuge' in Captain Cook. Definitely a place to 'get away' from the hustle and bustle of Kona (about 40 min drive south). Only reason 4 out of 5 stars is for 6 people, the third bedroom is downstairs without a bathroom and you have to go outside up the stairs to get into the house. Parents needed bathroom, kids scared to sleep by themselves, we managed no problem, but should be noted if traveling with 6 people.
The property at Captain Cooke was beautiful. A very well appointed kitchen, which we used for dinners since the location is a bit far from area restaurants.
The outdoor lanai is a perfect place to hang out. The house is situated on a very very windy steep and I mean steep hill so a 4 wheel drive car is very helpful.
At the bottom of that very steep hill is a lovely black rock beach situated in a quiet cove. We arrived from the Volcano National Park. The house is in a good location for a day trip there. It was a little farther away from Kona than we expected, but that did not deter us in the least. We spent one day snorkeling at a nearby beach. We loved our gecko friends that inhabited the property. We would love to go back and stay at the house!
The home is very well taken care of and very inviting!!! The black pebble Beach at the end of the end of the road is a hidden gem and is one of the best snorkeling spots we vistited while on the island. The location is perfect for exploring the The Big Island!! My suggestion is to rent a 4x4 vehicle so u can enjoy some of the most beautiful spots on the island. Are stay in this beautiful home is worth every penny we spent.
Our 5th. time to the Big Island first time with VRBO and it was great. The price reasonable unfortunate the exchange rate on the Canadian dollar isn't. Awesome house very.
I would like to say is that we are from the praires in Canada and although the hill side is steep we had no problem on drive down or up. I was a little worried because of some negative reviews but that was wasted energy on my part. It is steep and you need to drive with caution but more worried about morning commutes on a winter day in our city of 225,000 than this drive. Chill out and enjoy the view! Park at the bottom of the driveway if you can't back up!
Amenities were excellent, and that includes all that was in the kitchen, the fans, the beach stuff, including the chairs the snorkelling equipment, towels, and coolers etc. Bed was great but I'm a bit of a pillow suck and they didn't meet my standard. Loved the layout of the house but we moved the kitchen table to the Lanai. You really need to soak that view in when ever you can.
I think it is a great location and we put at least 1600 km. 1000 plus miles on our SUV rental, great place to be on visiting the Volcano National Park, South Point and points in-between.
Pebble beach is great but we loved it when we located a small "private' beach about a 15 minute hike to the right when facing the Ocean. Couple of nice hikes one to the Cinder Cones that is left of the beach and then the Kings Trail that is to the right. Neighbours were friendly hope they enjoyed our music!
We will be back but next time but will leave the adult children at home and bring another couple. Glad you had the room and shower in the garage our son loved it
