Sobre esta propriedade

COME SEE THE LAVA FLOWING FROM SAFE DISTANCES!!!

Lovely setting on 1 1/2 acres with distinctive touches and artwork. Located in an upscale neighborhood that is quiet, safe, and near several unique destinations and events that run year-round.

Tikis and Treetops is two-room studio is made up of a main room, a kitchen and big lanai/porch, which in Hawaii is the outdoor room and all together gives the place an indoor/outdoor feel that is tropical style living. Special care was taken to select, mill and install wood trim that is just gorgeous to look at with mango, koa, cedar, and redwood that creates art with wood. I have collected wooden masks, statuary, and artworks from Africa, Polynesia, Asia and the Middle East. The stuff you write home about. There is also a solar heated homemade hot tub that is a cozy fit for two out and under the stars.

The property is 1 1/2 acres and dips, curves and drops, and flows in a most unusual topography. This is a very out-of-the-norm place that is called the Sweet Spot because my friends who came over all said, "This is a sweet spot." You have to see it to believe and it was my love of the land and 16 years to put the lots together to form this geologically connected one-of-a-kind vacation destination. Coconuts that were planted over a decade ago are now harvested and shared with all of our guests. Having lived in this neighborhood for 30 years I can say without doubt, there is nothing else like this place in the area. Long time locals come over and tell me," I had no idea a place like this existed here Wow. What a sweet spot" And that is how it got its name.

You will be in a 100% off-the-grid solar-driven house! Something also to write home about. The property is populated with over two dozen food-bearing trees. Coconut, limes, breadfruit, sugar cane, avocado, coffee, cacao, cherry, grapefruit, star more.
The neighborhood is charming with a walk to stunning coastline and a black sand beach in Kehena Bay that is frequented by dolphins and whales in the wintertime.

On Wednesday is Uncle Robert's Night Market a scene to beat all scenes. Open air, music event. Saturday Farmer's Market is a must next to the same location The coastal road is one of the most beautiful drives on the entire island winding along through tree tunnels and overhanging vines that grace your drive. Warm ponds are but 20 minutes away and 25 minutes away is the town of Pahoa which is as colorful as a tropical flower. A variety of restaurants from Lugiun's Mexican, Paulo's Italian, Kaleo's Fusion, Ning's Thai, Mighty Sushi, Black Rock American Cafe, and full-blown bakery called the Tin Shack. A regular shots and beer bar and a Kava/Kombucha non-alcoholic bar too. The lava may be flowing and that is a sight of a lifetime to see the blood of the planet flowing into the ocean and across the lava field.
This is what Hawaii looked like 50 years ago. Come and really unwind, slow down, chill out and hang loose in one of the coolest scenes in all the islands. There is no place like Lower Puna.

If you are looking for a 'tourist' destination this isn't it. If you are looking for what its like to live in Hawaii, close to nature, inspired by the surroundings, breathing in some of the cleanest air in the world, getting in touch with slowing down and taking in the beauty of old Hawaii, then this is the right place. Its a vacation you will never forget

Not quite what was promised
Many of the amenities listed were not available and were discouraged - such as a toaster or hair dryer. We were prepared for a rustic stay but the gecko poop on all of the furnishings and kitchen facilities was disappointing. Also, the cockroaches and mice were not great either. By the time we left we had cleaned up a lot of the place and it was a great area. Close to the water and not too far of a drive to town. You do need a car. The caretaker was mostly helpful and lives on the property.

Grateful
I am very grateful for the valuable time and effort placed into a home to be used to help share one of the most beautiful places I get to visit on this earth. I did not cook much- my budget afforded me the local eats on the island. We visited the hot springs about 15 minutes from the house, we went to Hilo and ziplined the KoleKole. One night we stayed on the other side of the island- much busier! There we went hiking and snorkeling at Captain Cook and saw Volcano National Park. We did a dinner cruise and snorkeled with manta rays. I followed my spirit and went with the flow and I am painfully back home trying to keep that energy going in my daily life. I hope to one day return- the bed was comfortable, the shower was awesome, the plants and animals and the overall happiness of the area made this unforgettable and I will forever be grateful.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

The trees originally drew me to this place because there is nothing like trees this size. I came to Hawaii in the 80's after years of touring. This property is close to the beach and what Hawaii looked like more than 50 years ago. I had a vision of combining these three lots and it took me 16 years to do it but when you see it you will understand and join me in the vision. It is unlike anything else in the Kalapana area. I wanted to live close to nature and this is my version of low impact living. I put in a solar system so we are off the grid. The sun heats the water for the shower and the tub. The solar panels make the electricity for the lights, refrigeration, and the appliances. Propane does drive the gas grill.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

A truly unique aspect are the heritage trees, two monkey pods and a mango tree that are so big as to give it a Jurassic park feel. What makes this place special are all of the trees, (except the heritage trees) bushes, flowers that I have planted over 25 years. I wanted to create a home where people could eat from the land and to that extent there are numerous fruit and nut trees. When it is in season you can eat right from the tree cacao, two varieties of mango, three varieties of avocado, papaya, soursop, starfruit, banana, macadamia nut, breadfruit, sugar cane, lime, grapefruit, orange, tangerine, cherry, fig, and two varieties of coconut. The flowers are exotic, tropical and a feast for the eyes and soul. Our two concierges on site will guide to all of what there is to see and do and open coconuts for you to drink and fruit from the trees.
