Great cozy lake cabin to getaway for an autumn week... pictures accurately show the authentic look and feel of this little gem. Really appreciated all the help from Kirk ahead of time which led to a great experience. Also appreciate that this spot offers an affordable and lovely, high quality experience for those of us with well behaved four legged companions. My westie loved being able to join us. We all loved the patio as a spot to sit and enjoy the personality of various moods of the lake. We also used the kayaks one afternoon to tool around the pretty lake and saw both loons and eagles along the way. The town is nearby and groceries/gas available easily. The kitchen and mouse-proof pantry was well stocked and accessible for meals. Easy day trips to the Lost Forty, Lake Bemidji and Itasca State Parks were also part of our week. Since we had to work a few of the days, it was also helpful to have both internet and phone quality. The beds were comfy and the shower worked great too. We had a great time enjoying 'our cabin' for a week and would not hesitate to return or recommend it to others!
We had excellent communication with the owner. Everything was in working condition. The kitchen is stocked with more than you could expect to find in a cabin. Just like home. I actually brought apples up to the lake and made my yearly applesauce. Town is just a few miles down the road and you will be able to find whatever you need. Gas, bait, groceries, antique shopping and even DVD rentals are all within walking distance.
The star attraction Bruno, the town dog is there to welcome you to Longville. Loons and deer abound. This is our eighth VRBO rental and we have never been disappointed.
I would recommend.
Thank you Kirk,
Brad and Mary
A friend and I wanted an easy going, northern Minnesota week at a lake – and Wabedo Cabin was the perfect find! Kirk and Shannon clearly take pride in this gem and have done a great job maintaining the rustic charm of their cabin while making comfortable updates – the back deck, remodeled bath, fantastic Wi-Fi connection, and chairs at the end of the dock. We enjoyed days outside as much as evenings inside watching movies with a glass of wine. All the little details were not lost on us. Love that both bedrooms have lake views. The pictures are spot on!
The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and pantry staples. We even made peach cobbler! Plenty of room in the fridge and we planned a few grill meals on the gas grill off the kitchen. The garage is full of float toys for the lake, life jackets and another fridge for bait. Wabedo Lake has just the right amount of activity. A few boats going by, canoes and kayaks here and there and loons calling 24/7.
A week was just right to fit in days doing nothing but enjoying the view and water from the dock and deck. Since the location is convenient to Itasca State Park and Walker we went on day trips to both…and then joked that we just wanted to get back home to the cabin! Visiting Longville on Turtle Race Wednesday is a must. Enjoy some ice cream and keep an eye out for the town dog mascot, Bruno. If you’re into vintage/ antiques, stop by Off the Beaten Path and say hello to Susan and Rog – true up north folks. They had to ask us in a very Minnesotan way to leave one afternoon because there was hay to bring in. They are friendly (might even offer you some coffee) and run a great shop.
We were sad to leave on Saturday…a sign of a great vacation. All in all, a fantastic experience. Thanks Kirk and Shannon – you guys are great hosts, even from afar!
The pictures posted are what sold my husband and I to book this cabin for our August 2016 trip. Well, the pictures don't do this beautiful cabin justice! We were amazed how absolutely charming it was! It was so cozy and impeccably clean. Everything we needed was there for us, from the fully equipped kitchen, soft bath towels and the most comfortable bed we were lucky enough to sleep in! The views of the lake can be seen from every room and there's nothing like waking in the morning to the sounds of distant loons and hearing the gentle waves lapping against the shore! We did have a few days of strong winds (can't control Mother Nature) which kept us off the lake but the days on the lake the fishing was very good! We loved our stay at this beautiful place of Heaven on earth and highly recommend the cabin! You won't want to leave!!! We can't thank Kirk enough for sharing this lovely cabin and cannot wait to return!
Truly a beautiful log cabin in the woods on the lake! It is the perfect mix of comfort and coziness, yet you feel like you are in a Minnesota Northwoods cabin (not a house). Kirk is a wonderful host. I felt very confident that everything would be in order, and it sure was! The cabin is nicely stocked and it was clean as a whistle. There are little details added that were fun and thoughtful (I’ll let you be surprised!) I could tell that the owners took great pride and care of this property. They do a great job!
The well stocked kitchen was ample, and there is a LOT of storage space in the mudroom. It was great to have that mudroom buffer between the outdoors and inside the cabin itself. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen table was big and sturdy, and we had a great view of the lake while sitting at it.
The lake was cool and refreshing. I will say that if you are a swimmer (or lounger with a floatie) – you’ll need to navigate through a bunch of weeds to get out to the open water. Once through.. it’s lovely. In a perfect world, I’d prefer a clear swimming path. Still, very minor compared to everything else that is so terrific!
We probably spent the most time on the wonderful deck overlooking the lake. It was so relaxing listening to the loons, enjoying the cool breeze coming off the lake, and taking it all in. Due to the woodsy trees surrounding the cabin, there was usually both sun and shade on the deck throughout the day (I prefer the shade, my mom the sun – we were both very happy!) We highly recommend this place and we are definitely re-booking for our next trip ‘up north’!
Had a fantastic time with a family of 4. Rustic log cabin updated with care and all amenities. Beautiful, wide deck overlooks pristine lake. The loons and the eagles love it, so who are we to argue!
