We loved our stay. The home is large and spacious. It has lots of room for large families. It has a great kitchen to cook in and all the amenities needed. It has a pretty water view and is quiet with easy road access. We were able to obtain fresh lobsters from the pier in Friendship. Friendship is so pretty. We were able to go to the botanical gardens in Booth Bay for a spectacular show. Our children loved that. We also were able to do some snow tubing. Maine is fun in summer and winter. Claire is a great communicator and answered all our questions. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Oh I forgot the Russian stove is cozy.
Overall a great stay. House was clean. Easy to access, and just outside all the fun of the busy vacation areas. Many bed rooms and sitting areas, great open kitchen, and a nice backyard. Would definitely recommend this place!!!
The customer service we received from Claire was exceptional. She was always responsive to emails, went above and beyond in providing suggestions for things to do in the area, accommodating when it came to early check in as we were traveling through the night, and called to check in with us upon our arrival. There is an abundance of maps and local brochures at the house to help you find local attractions, directions. GPS on our phones was pretty unreliable (would take us round about routes instead of having us turn around somewhere) - I would highly recommend taking the Main Atlas and other maps with you. There isn't a whole lot going in Waldoboro - but there are many day trips within a reasonable distance. We checked Reid State Park ( bring bug spray - they were terrible!), Permaquid Beach (excellent relaxing sandy beach for the kids), Booth Bay has a bunch of great shops, restaurants, whale watch (keep an eye out for groupons). I would say that the Maine Aquarium in Booth Bay is something you could forgo for the money. There is a hands on exhibit but it's very small and not a lot to see. We hit a lot of great farm stands and local markets that were wonderful. As long as you're okay with day trips you can't beat the price for this rental. In terms of the home itself - it was a charming new england home and much larger than we expected. There wasn't really a water view because of some overgrowth, but it was still very nice. We had 5 adults and 2 children (2 and 11) - the house was spacious and well organized (labels on cupboards and sheets, etc.) It was a little challenging with one shower - but we expected that coming in. Stairs made it tough with the toddler - baby gates might even be worth bringing. The kitchen pantries and general kitchen goods were well stocked which we made good use of as we cooked a lot of our meals to save money. The new grill was an excellent investment by the owner. The rangetop could stand to be replaced and would have made things substantially easier, but it's still functional. It was quite warm when we stayed there but there were plenty of fans in the house that kept us comfortable for the most part. There are plenty of kids toys and movies for the little ones. I would recommend extra beach towels (we could only find 3) and we did not use the sun room as we felt it smelled of cat urine. However - even with the minor things noted above we had an exceptional stay and would definitely recommend it and hope to come back!
How nice to snuggle up by the living room fire on a cold night. The winter sunsets were brilliantly colorful. A restful winter vacation, with time enough to watch movies and read by the fire. The snow was very deep, and it was hard to get out the the grocery store. But inside we had plenty of room to bake cookies, create interesting family dinners, and work on our hobbies.
Nice after-Christmas sales in our favorite Rockland stores, Sea Street Graphics, Seagull Cottage, and Grasshopper!
Our fourth year here, and looking forward to 2015! Morning coffee on the porch or in the sunny kitchen, close enough to many fun things to do, yet far enough from the tourist traffic. A welcome place to come back to after treasure hunting, or a day at the beach! The owners are wonderful people! Highly recommend as a great place to stay!
Our family of three stayed in this lovely, spacious older home. All systems worked fine. We burned a few logs in the Russian stove one cool morning, but most days were 78 to 88 degrees. Would recommend to friends and family. We return every year.
Found some great bargains at Montsweag Flea Market in Woolwich. Bought lobsters in Friendship for $3 per pound! Enjoyed the sun and water at Birch Point Beach State Park in Owls Head, Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson, and Martin’s Point Beach in Friendship. We watched videos found in the media library, in the evenings and on the occasional rainy day. Explored Fort William Henry at Colonial Pemaquid Historic Site in New Harbor. Would love to try kayaking in the many wetlands we saw. Bought souvenirs at the Friendship Day craft show, but missed the lobster boat races. More bargains at Big Al’s odd lot store in Wiscasset. Browsed the Rockland Antiques Exchange and the used books stores in Rockland. Returned home tired but happy,
