Excellent apartment!

We have just returned from a one week stay in this apartment in Funchal. We had a really enjoyable stay and would highly recommend the apartment.

It has everything you need for a self-catering stay and it was modern, really clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and there is good storage in the bedroom with lots of wardrobe and drawer space. Some people have mentioned the hard bed but we found it just right and slept great every night.

The balcony was on the small side but was big enough for two people to sit out and enjoy the afternoon/evening sun.

The apartment is in a great location being about a 15 minute walk into the old town area and the same to the lido complex area. There are several shops, cafes and restaurants within close walking distance.

We hired a car for a few days so the underground parking came in very useful. The pool area was really nice which was sunny in the afternoon/evening.

Communication with Claudio was great beforehand. On the day of arrival we met with Juvelina to get the keys, she showed us around and gave us information on the local area which was very helpful. Our flight was actually early and she accommodated us by meeting us at the apartment earlier. On the day of departure we left the keys in the apartment and were able to stay till the early afternoon as our flight wasn’t till the late afternoon.

2017 review - thoroughly recommended!

We were met on time outside the apartment block by the lovely Juvelina.

The property was exactly as described. It was modern, clean with ample space for two. Everything inside was newish including the rugs.

The location was just up from the centre of Funchal. It is very close to the Casino and at night you can see all the coming and goings there. The apartment is on the 6th floor (of 8 in total). There are two small lifts. We used the lifts a lot with no problem. The apartment block is quiet with most of the occupants seeming to be residents rather than holidaymakers.

In the bedroom there was more than enough storage for our things in the fitted wardrobes. The bed itself was firm but we were ok with it.

The lounge/diner had tv with a form of freeview (not many English channels). There was a music centre which we used quite a bit as the Portuguese radio stations did play a good selection of rock music.

There were quite a lot of dvds provided but we did not really look at these. In the sideboard there were all sorts of guides and maps (and we noticed Christmas decs).

In the kitchen there is a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven, microwave, kettle, coffee filter, toaster etc. All worked perfectly. There was a utility area with washing machine, dryer, ironing board, hoover etc.

Basically everything people need at home so it really was easy living in Claudio's apartment for a week.

The balcony was small with only enough room for two to sit at the table. The view is mainly away from town centre and towards the sea rather than the hills. The sun was on the balcony in the afternoon but not early morning. There was ongoing development visible but none was intrusive. We found it interesting to watch large concrete blocks being swung about under cranes.

We had a hire car and there was secure parking with gated access. This was useful as the road parking was always busy being so close to town. There were thoughtful aspects such as providing two sets of keys (not to the garage) so both of us could come and go independently if we wished.

A car or taxi is often the only alternative to getting to some of the more remote parts of the island. We found the road to Encumeada closed and from there the only way to the Serra de Paul was via the north coast.

For walkers it is worth knowing the levada path from Monte/Barbosas east to Romeiros was closed too.

Finally the deposit was refunded promptly. March 2017

Tolle Wohnung in Funchal

Wir (63 und 65 Jahre) hatten im Juli/August 2016 drei wundervolle Wochen auf Madeira und in dieser komplett eingerichteten und sauberen Wohnung (Küche mit sämtlichen Gerätschaften, Waschmaschine, Trockner, Geschirrspüler; gutes WLan) in Funchal. Die geräumige Wohnung liegt fußläufig zum Zentrum in einem in sich abgeschlossenen Wohnkomplex mit großem und gepflegtem Swimmingpool, der in der Regel nicht stark frequentiert war und von uns ausgiebig genutzt wurde.

Der Balkon, auf dem wir unser Frühstück wie auch das Abendessen einnahmen, bot einen schönen Blick auf das Meer und einlaufende Schiffe. Die große Dachterrasse bot besonders am Abend eine tolle Sicht auf Funchal und Umgebung.

Hilfreich war der zur Wohnung gehörende Parkplatz in der Tiefgarage, denn Parken in Funchal ist schwierig.

Wir fühlten uns vom Vermieter bestens betreut, haben uns in der Wohnung sehr wohl gefühlt und können diese wirklich weiter empfehlen.

A lovely place to stay in Funchal

We had a lovely stay in Claudio's apartment. It was well equipped (the only thing we couldn't find was a potato peeler), well situated, just a 5 minute down hill walk into the centre, and spacious. We enjoyed having the pool to ourselves quite often, and the views from the balcony were great (the apartment benefits from being on the penultimate floor which meant there was no balcony above us). Claudio and Juvelina were very helpful, and the keys handover was very easy.

The only reasons we didn't give 5 stars, have been mentioned by others before, but we thought them worth mentioning again, just in case they are easy to remedy. The lack of air conditioning means that you either have to keep the (quite noisy) fan on or the balcony doors open (which let in a lot of noise at night), coupled with the quite hard bed, we found it difficult to drift off for the first few nights.

Other than that, we enjoyed staying in the apartment very much, and the DVDs in English provided a few cosy nights in after we'd spent all day hiking around the island. We highly recommend the Restaurante dos Combatentes, which has been mentioned by others on here, their food was superb as was their house white, and all was well priced. We would also recommend that you walk some of the levadas on the island as they have stunning views (because they are often built into the sides of the hills) and take you to some villages you wouldn't normally visit.

We had a very good stay in Claudio's apartment and would return again.

A perfect self catering apartment

This is a great apartment with the best self catering facilities we have ever had and we have been to several all over Europe. The apartment was very clean and well maintained, and felt very secure, with a super fast internet connection.

It's in a great location 15 minute walk into Funchal, small supermarkets and places to eat just 2 minutes away with a great bakery selling the best bread and cakes. Also a niece balcony to enjoy the view and eat the cakes.

Good customer services and communications from the owner i would certainly recommend this lovely apartment and hope to book it again in the near future.

Great location

This apartment was very clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The location was ideal, situated very near to the centre and just a short walk to the Lido area. The view from the balcony was stunning and the 360 deg view from the roof terrace has to be one of the best in Funchal. We highly recommend this apartment to anybody visiting Funchal.
