We agree with all of the previous reviews. To provide context for our stay, this was our first trip to Italy and we stayed 4 days in Rome, Amalfi, Corona and Florence in late April. And we stayed at VRBOs in all but Florence. So our first recommendation for those of you travelling is to stay at a VRBO they are all different but you will gain an amazing memory by "living with the locals". And House Oliver stood apart as our favorite rental of all.
We took a speed train from Rome to Salerno and arranged for House Olivers driver Claudio to pick us up. He is one of the best parts of our trip because he took away all of the stress of getting around. On our jaw dropping drive to House Oliver he took us to lunch in Minori at a beautiful restaurant on the ocean called Torre Normanna, which was a recommendation from host Oliver. This was a perfect start to our stay. I can't say enough about Claudio- he took us to Pompeii another day, and he dropped us off in Salerno when we left for Tuscany. We were renting a car there to drive to Cortona and were worried about getting to the main highway so he had us follow him until we were safely on our way. How nice is that? If you are not driving to House Oliver I might also recommend having him take you to a market so you can stock up on groceries because once you get to House Oliver you just want to sit on one of their 3 terraces, enjoy the view and smell the sweet fresh Air!
One day we walked up the +700 steps to the town of Ravallo. If you are a gardener this will be your favorite part of your trip as Villa Cimbrone gardens are spectacular. We didn't have time to go to Capri and unfortunately we didn't have weather conditions to take Olivers famous boat tour - but that gives us another reason to return someday!
The location is actually between a quaint town Atrani and Minori and the house sits above the road with spectacular views. As others have said you will need to walk along road to get to towns (about 15 min to Atrani and 25 to Amalfi). Again this is what the locals do and it just adds to the experience. The WiFi was spotty one day so make a note of that if this is a big deal to you.
Oliver and Lela are such gracious hosts - from having the fridge stocked for you ,daily cleaning, antiques and paintings, fresh hotel like linens and pillows- they go above and beyond to make your stay 5star. We only wish we could have stayed longer!!
Although weary from travel, we were newly energized upon arrival by the sheer beauty of the surroundings and the warmest, most genuine welcome by our hosts! If you want to experience real Italian hospitality, this is the place you need to book. Everything from the well appointed furnishings (nothing lacking here!) to the stunning views (BREATHTAKING) was beyond compare. Our wonderful hosts Oliver & Lella were gracious and accessible. While always available when we needed them, they were absolutely hidden from view at all times, which made it a challenge to pin them down when we so badly wanted them to join us for an espresso! They both are salt of the earth... the kind of people you can sit and talk with all night long without tiring.
As so many reviews stated, this property is situated in the ideal spot. Walks to bus stops are very short, and connect to Amalfi town square, Positano, Ravello, Minori and Maiori in a hop, skip and jump. Your jaw will drop at the stark beauty of any of those destinations and the friendly people you will encounter will make you feel like a local, not a tourist. Our 7 days there just scratched the surface of this amazing region of Italy. We could spend 2 full weeks and still feel there was not enough time.
Bottom line: WONDERFUL hosts. Best in Italy...hands down. Location, location, location...it has it all, with every amenity you need. You better act fast to book this place because I guarantee it will fill up quickly!
Every single moment of my stay at House Oliviero was perfection. From the moment we stepped from the cab, I was amazed at the attention to detail and the enthusiasm of Oliver and his beautiful wife Lella. Our luggage was brought to our room and we spent some time with Oliver and a welcome bottle of prosecco. He spent time going over all of the amenities of this amazing villa and also shared his recommendations for things to do in the area. It's easy to do day trips to Capri, Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, but the best part of the day was always when we returned to lounge at the villa. The villa is well stocked, spotless, and had everything we needed and more.
Oliver was always available throughout our stay to answer questions and to provide suggestions. He is an outgoing, well spoke, and informative host. We loved him and his wife.
If you are thinking of a perfect location, wonderful hosts, and amazing views, you will have it all here.
Am already missing our vacation, but we will return !!
This was our 4th trip to Italy and we were not disappointed. House Oliver was beyond beautiful. From the glass of Prosecco upon arrival to the espresso before departing, Oliver and Lella were the perfect hosts. The coffee, eggs, juice, yogurt and sweet breakfast biscuits and cakes provided for breakfast were much appreciated. We also took advantage of the affordable wine that Oliver stocks on a couple of nights when we found ourselves with the desire to have “just one more glass”. As others have said, the views from the patio are incredible. We enjoyed many a cup of coffee and glass of wine admiring the sea, boats, and hillsides. DO NOT HESITATE TO BOOK!
My wife and I were traveling with my mother and aunt. Having recently undergone hip surgery, the steps were a bit of challenge for my mother when we first arrived, but her strength grew steadily with daily exercise inspired by such beauty. The two rooms are quite separate, so both parties felt they had the privacy they needed, as well as a common room to chat, drink wine, and snack. All of us agreed that the mini-cruise with Oliver and Pietro was one of the highlights of the week. DEFINITELY GO!
You can read other reviews to learn more about the accommodations. I wanted to spend a little time discussing whether to rent a car or use a driver. Because we were traveling with my 78 year old mother and her sister, we rented a car. Parking in Salvator’s lot down the road worked out very well for us. We visited Ravello frequently, so having a car was convenient. We also drove into Maiori and Minori. That being said, if my wife and I were to stay at House Oliver again, we would probably have the driver pick us up at the airport and drive us when needed. A bus stop is near the villa, and though the road is busy, we would have enjoyed walking to Atrani (be sure to eat at Mistral), and Amalfi where one can catch a bus to Ravello. When you consider the cost of the car rental, gas and parking the cost is similar to paying for a driver occasionally. If you only used the driver to get to and from the airport, it would be less expensive than renting a car. The other thing to note is that the roads are narrow and winding. I personally found them fun to drive, but others might not.
Thank you once again for the lovely rose petals and candles winding from the front door to our bedroom to help us celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary! Hope to see you for our 40th.
Two couples rented this property for 4 night in early October. Read all the reviews to be able to glean details from each. For us, it was the perfect location from which to explore the coast, and our host Oliver was gracious and helpful both with the property and the region. (Lella was travelling, so we did not get the pleasure of meeting with her.)
Other guests used a car service - I drove a 4 door Peugeot wagon, and it is true that you need some bravery and confidence to drive the road along the coast and over the mountains. Lots of switchbacks! I only had to stop and reverse a couple of times to allow the non-budging buses to make the curves - and only brake a few times for the motorcycles to squeeze through small openings. The road is part of the charm!. We parked at Salvator's lot about 200 meters from the steps to Olivers, and it worked out well. We even took a drive to Pompeii for a day trip - something to not miss!
So many details have been thought of in the property - read them in other reviews. We primarily used the kitchen for breakfast using the provided foodstuffs, and for a few dinners (of restaurant leftovers) when too tired from the day's activities to go out. We spent a great deal of time in the morning and evening on the terrace overlooking Minori and Maiori - such a perfect view.
We decided to take the day cruise on the awesome boat captained by Oliver and crewed by Pietra - so glad we did. Stunningly beautiful scenery and superbly relaxing for our last day. Swam in the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean for those of us to cared to jump in.
How we were able to find such a gem is beyond me. Grateful for the reviews on TripAdvisor to show us the way.
Consigliatissimo!
