Perfect Family Vacation Home

1st of all the pictures posted, while great, do not do the house and property justice. Over the last several years, we have used home away (and other home rental sites) stayed in 13 different rentals, this house being 14. And #14 is by far our favorite!

What we look for - cleanliness, ample room (bed & bathrooms) for myself, hubby, son + girlfriend, daughter, son in law & 4 grandkids, dock or access to a dock for our 2 boats, reasonably priced boat trailer parking for the week, stores nearby, but somewhat private home, kitchen/cooking space, deck space, air control, (some govern this & you can't turn up or down) and reasonable check in/out procedures.

This home met All of our needs/wants and THEN SOME!!

Very Clean! Had a chance to meet the sweetest little cleaning crew as we were leaving and they were very eager to ask how our stay was and if they needed to do anything better, to which I replied, Nope, it was Perfect! Plenty of beds for our large crew, everyone had a Very Comfortable Bed, we all agreed our 1st morning on them being the most comfy beds we've had throughout all of our home rental stays. 4 modern well equipped bathrooms made for a much happier family!

For us, a biggie here - Not only was there a Private dock included with the home/property, it was large enough for our pontoon & bass boat, with plenty of play room left, for the kids to jump and swim. Also, stairs all the way down to the dock, some places have just a steep bank or path.

AND...we could park our boat trailers in the driveway!! + all of our vehicles with plenty of room to spare!! Grocery store less than 10 mins away. Wooded private property was Perfect, where you have a neighbor or 2 somewhere in the distance, but ya don't know it.

Saw reviews there weren't very many utensils, pots & pans etc.. so we brought some from home, but there was no need. We fixed gravy, biscuits, eggs, sausage & bacon every morning, and cooked supper every night, using what was supplied, 2 nights we used the large, user friendly grill, conveniently located off the kitchen. Perfect porches & deck space!! Beautifully constructed! Tiki torches & citronella candles provided to keep evening relaxing deck time enjoyable! We controlled AC. The most uncomplicated check in/out procedures EVER!

Having questions about boat ramps, parking and such, we communicated with the home owner, Mr. Bing, who was very gracious, polite and quick to respond.

Oh...also... Great WiFi spee

A great vacation home on a gorgeous lake!

We just returned from a 5-day vacation at this lakefront property on Douglas Lake. The house was a perfect getaway for our family! The home is very spacious, multi-level decks to enjoy, and plenty of room that easily accommodated our family of 7. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved having lakefront access for fishing, swimming, and picking up and dropping family members off from the boat we rented at Mountain Harbor Inn. The furniture and beds were comfy and plenty of outdoor seating is available. Very homey! Bedrooms are spacious and two include bathrooms. There are 3 full baths and one half bath so plenty for a large group. As shown in the pictures of the property, there is a VERY steep hill to access the dock. While there is decking all the way down it is difficult for anyone travelling with small children, elderly, etc. It's also a bit sketchy getting from the stairs on to the floating dock but we managed even with an 18-month-old. The water in the cove is perfect for swimming...super clear and deep all around the dock!

Couple of things to note if you're renting the property:

1. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes and new grill tools are provided; however, pots and pans could stand to be updated. Also, if you're planning to have steak, etc. you might want to bring along some good steak knives. The oven door is a bit tricky and may need repair as it almost seems like it's going to fall off when you open it.

2. There are only 2 TVs: 1 in the main living room and one in the basement family room area. No TVs in any of the bedrooms. However, they do have cable, internet access, and quite a few DVDs.

3. There is a hot tub on the lower deck; however, it was not filled with water during our stay. Not sure if it's broken or just hasn't been filled yet for the summer season.

4. Make sure you take plenty of bug spray and citronella candles with you, especially if you plan to be outside in the evenings. It is in a wooded area and there are lots of bugs around as would be expected. Some are provided on the main deck!

5. There are 3 levels to this property. If you're travelling with small children and stairs are an issue you might want to take along a baby gate.

6. We highly recommend Mountain Harbor Inn boat rentals if you'd like to rent a boat. Good prices and staff. Also very close to the property.

All in all, it is a perfect house for a family vacation on the lake and near Gatlinburg! We will definitely be back!

Christmas week stay

Thank you for having us. This location was so great for us as it was just a few driveways from our ailing parents, it couldn't have been better. The home is very spacious with 3 levels but lacks insulation so sounds traveled between floors. The view is great and private, lots of decking and parking. The amenities are lower end, the house could use a few pairing and sharp knives, more silverware, new towels, ( the downstairs towels needed to be washed as they were quite musty) bathroom soap, shampoo, conditioner, foil and saran wrap, we ran to the store so many times for small things. I realize that they probably were not intended to be included. One thing that the owner must add is a first aid kit, ( Band-aids, hydrogen peroxide, a needle, neosporen etc) We needed that badly our first night one of the kids got a large splinter upstairs and it was horrible getting it out with nothing. The other thing we lacked was a blow-dryer. With 4 bathrooms I'd suggest you get at least one. We ALL forgot ours and went out with wet un-styled hair. The house could use some deep cleaning like the shower enclosure calking and the washing machine seal but even with these issues we feel that the location and value for us was really super and we hope to rent it again. We needed a few more comforters / blankets also. The heating downstairs only worked if the upstairs was too hot . Once you are in bed it didn't matter but the kids didn't really play downstairs like we thought as it was cold.

The first night we were there the gas ran out on the grille as we were finishing cooking dinner so we couldn't use the grille the other 4 nights, sad.

The front porch pendant light doesn't work, we even got a ladder and changed the bulb but it needs to be fixed. With out railings it was scary at night for the our older parents.

These are all minor but good suggestions for the owner. Once again, thank you for having us, it was a good vacation and the house was good.

See you again next year!

There was 1 king down stairs, 1 queen upstairs, then the other 2 bedrooms had full beds ( shorter) and one twin bed with a foot board. It worked ok for us as we had 5 adults and the rest kids but if it was all adults it wouldnt have worked. The kids also used the extra futon mattress on the floor downstairs.

Next time we'll come more prepared also.

Wonderful Vacation!

We had the best Thanksgiving with family! The house was great! Very clean and ready for our arrival. I had spoken with the caretaker about previous comments about the kitchenware. I did bring some of my own pots and pans given I was cooking a holiday meal for 9 people. There was plenty of room for everyone to watch football. The views are awesome! In the winter the water in the lake is drawn down very low but it really didn't change the views or the beauty of the location. I would highly recommend this house.

Our group of nine loved the property.

Our stay was wonderful but a few small changes could have made it even more comfortable. The kitchen cookware, plates, silverware could stand to be checked and restocked. The house needs some better skillets, more mixing and serving bowls and dishes and silverware for at least the nine people it is listed as housing. The house also did not have a DVD player, although the listing lists that it should have one. Another way to improve the property would be to screen in the deck with the table, off of the kitchen area. We loved that area and spent a lot of time playing cards there but found it challenging in the evening as the bugs came out. Otherwise, the trip was awesome. The house was very roomy for 9 and was quite clean and comfortable. This house would be perfect for spending most of your time at the lake but if you intend to spend a lot of your vacation going to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge or hiking then plan to spend a lot of time in the car. The distance might not seem all that far but the traffic makes the trip seem very long. The privacy of the cove was spectacular. We had the whole cove to ourselves and spent lots of time hanging out of the dock and floating in the water. This was a wonderful way to spend a week and everyone in our group would rent this house again.

Nice property on the lake.

Overall our stay was a positive one. The property is a very nice size considering the cost of rental for a week. We had 6 adults and two children stay there and never felt cramped or lacking for space. The owner was very easy to work with throughout the entire process and his brother, who is the caretaker, was also very accommodating and available,

We chose this property because it was on the lake and we wanted something a little off the beaten path, which it is. Keep in mind though, that it's on top of a hill and you have a long way down many steps to get to the water. This wasn't a problem for us, but I just wanted to note it for anyone reading. The dock was disconnected from the steps, but we were able to get it back into place enough to make it useable, although the water was over the bottom few steps, so you got wet feet accessing the dock. Also not a problem for us, but some folks may take issue with the dock situation.

I saw that some other reviewers questioned the cleanliness of the house. We did not see any mouse droppings, but I will say that if you're looking for a pristine rental, this one may not be for you. While it was clean and in reasonable condition I would consider this more like staying at a relatives house than staying at a high end rental, like others I've been at in the past. Window sills needed cleaning, and there were spider webs here and there, especially on the outside of the windows and in the screens. Nothing horrible but not the cleanest I've seen by far.

My biggest complaint would be the cookware. If you plan on doing any cooking with a skillet, bring your own cookware. The skillets are cheap and paper thin, and we struggled to make a decent pancake with what they had there. Other than that the kitchen is well stocked with the other cooking utensils and serving items.

I saw someone mention the poor condition of the decks and I have no idea what they're talking about. We spent a lot of time on the decks and they are all safe and pleasant to use. Our kids played out there daily.

We enjoyed this property and the surrounding area very much. I would recommend this property with the readers understanding that it is a lived in and used home, and don't go into it thinking you're getting "Ritz Carleton" level accommodations. For the price it's well worth it.
