The House: The main house includes 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Two master bedrooms provide a much needed respite from the busy life that you have come to the Keys to escape from. One private bedroom and bath are located on one side of the living room next to the kitchen, and the remaining 2 bedrooms and bathroom are accessed from the opposite side of the living room. The spacious master bedroom and bath in the guest cottage is attached to the main house, separated by a car port for additional privacy. The kitchen is open and comfortable to cook in with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, stainless steel range, dishwasher, and a large picture window with pass through to the large, enclosed patio. This gulf front home comes with all the amenities you would need or want, including a generous flat screen HD television in the living room, an outdoor gas grill, cable television and high speed wireless internet.
The Property: Easing out to the backyard through the expansive sliding doors, you will find a very coveted, one of a kind private 13 to 15 foot deep saltwater tidal lagoon, where you can snorkel and swim in the privacy of your own backyard. Please do not intimidate or catch the fish and lobster, they are our pets. When you swim in the lagoon, you are effectively swimming in the gulf with fish and other sea life. Or you can relax on the generous screened porch, as you watch the kaleidoscope of colors dancing in the magnificent sunsets. The 50 foot dock will accommodate most boats. You may enjoy swimming or snorkeling in the gulf from the dock, with a ladder provided for access. Kayaks are available for your enjoyment. Paddle on out to the deserted island for an adventure, but it is recommended to first try the kayaks in the lagoon as they are not checked between guests for seaworthiness. An additional lot separates the house from the other houses on the street and can be used for parking your boat trailer, or extra vehicles. An abundance of landscape lighting around the backyard provides an amazing ambiance at night for a private swim in the lagoon.
The lagoon: There is no other body of water like this in the Keys. If you are familiar with the TV show 'Flipper', you might be amused to learn that the dolphin Flipper once swam in our lagoon. The lagoon is a healthy aquatic habitat, which is healthy for your skin; unlike a chlorinated body of water such as a swimming pool. Chlorine is toxic to plants and fish, and also to humans. Because the lagoon is not treated with any chemicals (which would harm the fish and plant life) and is connected to the gulf via an aqueduct, the visibility and conditions in the lagoon are dependent on the conditions in the gulf. As the gulf water warms, the warm water provides more nutrients for plant life and plants become more abundant. Since lobsters eat plants and algae, expect to see more lobster off the dock by the jetty to the south, when the water warms. Be sure to get your lobster license though, if you wish to savor the taste of these delicate creatures (but not the ones in our lagoon). Fines are steep for poaching. Please do NOT catch the lobsters in the lagoon, as they are our pets, and help control the plant life. With a small aqueduct connecting the lagoon to the gulf, the water level will rise and lower about 2 feet with the changing tide, when the ocean ebbs and flows. Come with your mask and snorkel and adventurous attitude as you explore the marvels of the lagoon and the gulf. If you are squeamish about walking in the gulf or lagoon, or swimming with fish in the lagoon, remember to bring your water shoes ! If you desire a pristine, sandy beach, rather than an aquatic habitat, the renowned Sombrero beach is about one mile from the property. Of course, there will be no privacy, and you will have to compete with all the other tourists that have no access to water from their property. The water depth in the gulf by the dock varies from about 4 feet to 6 feet. If you venture out to the bay, the water level may be as shallow as 3 foot or as deep as 10 feet. Life jackets are provided.
We hope you enjoy your stay. And please, call us immediately when you arrive, if everything is not to your satisfaction.
NO Pets. No Exceptions. No need to ask. The answer is No because we are not able to clean the sand between guests, and we advertise a pet free property (other than the fishes/lobster in the lagoon).
