Great location in Rouen!

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay in this roomy, centrally-located apartment in Rouen. Paul was extremely helpful throughout the entire trip-planning process and even volunteered to provide us with information on things to do in the city based on our personal interests. The apartment was exactly as advertised - very spacious and well-equipped with a few of the quirks to be expected in an apartment in an 18th century building. And the location couldn't have been better! The beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral was right outside the door, as were many shops, cafes and restaurants. There are so many things to do in Rouen that being so close to everything gave us the opportunity to easily visit many wonderful sites. This apartment is definitely for you if you are looking for a clean and comfortable accommodation close to the many amazing sights Rouen has to offer.

My two-month stay in this apartment was a rich experience in so many ways. Location! Location! 22 Rue St. Romain was close to the old downtown section of Rouen and close to the flea market which sold farmers' produce, meats, fish, and antiques.

Each time I entered the large front door I was transported back in time to the 18th century and imagined a horse-drawn wagon in the inner, stone courtyard.

Just one flight of stone steps led to the apartment which was furnished charmingly with antiques and some modern touches.

The building and the apartment was like Rouen itself; it preserved antiquity with added modern conveniences: washer & dryer, electric stove and fridge, an efficient kitchen, a comfortable bed and pull-out couch.

I've already recommended this apt. to friends and relatives. My son and his wife visited me for a week during my stay and they, too, share my enthusiasm for the place and for Rouen.

My favorite restaurant? The Petite Auberge, a small, family-run place a few storefronts away from the church of St. MaClou. En route to Auberge, on a corner, was my favorite patisserie run by a pleasant woman who told me that her family makes the excellent pastries.

Lastly, the apartment was clean, well-maintained, and charming. I could e-mail or call Anne or Paul with questions as they were readily available to assist.

Perfect for a home in historical Rouen

We loved our stay at this cute apartment. The location could not be better. It is right on a side street of the Cathedral on a historical street. Lots of restaurants and shopping are all nearby. We felt very safe there.

It was clean and had everything we needed. Very quiet!!!

I would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in the historical area.

Rouen Apartment

My husband, 12 year old son and I arrived in Rouen for three nights in this apartment. We had no trouble finding it from the train station and everything was as described in terms of keys, etc. We had received very detailed information from the owner by email which was appreciated. Having stayed in a number of VRBO locations before with no issues, I was disappointed at the cleanliness of the apartment, especially the kitchen and bathroom. It smelled very musty, and was older than I expected. We had to turn on the hot water and it took 2 hours to heat, which was stressful (wondering if it would heat) and inconvenient. There wasn't really a contact in Rouen for people staying in the apartment, so no one to contact locally if there were any problems. When we left we had been instructed to turn off the electricity, heat, water, etc. I think that is too much responsibility for a VRBO rental.

The location is perfect, right beside the cathedral, and the apartment is very quiet. There are lots of shops, restaurants and cafes in the area, and the train station is an easy walk.

Resposta do proprietário: I am sorry the latest guest in our France home was disappointed in the apartment. A 1730 building is old. The names and numbers of our plumber and electrician are on the cork board in the kitchen. The name and number of our contact Stephanie, who (1 block away) has resolved any and all problems (few) for our numerous past guests, is in the detailed paperwork that arrives with the keys. I cannot explain why the reviewer would say there is no contact in Rouen. A Homeaway or VRBO is a vacation home -- one turns on the utilities on arrival and off when leaving ---- it is not a hotel.

Lots to do and see in Haute Normandie

We loved our week in Rouen. Great jumping off spot for things to do and see in Normandy. We took the chunnel from London to Calais, picked up a rental car and drove the beautiful motorway down to Rouen. Easy day trips to the D Day beaches (great museums in Arromanches), Bayeaux, Roman ruins, Mont St. Michel, Giverny and Paris, just to name a few. But loved roaming the historic streets of Rouen! The flat was comfortable and charming with restaurants and food stores within walking distance.

A great place to stay

We spent 10 days here and had a fantastic holiday. A big thrill to be staying so close to Monet's famous subject the Cathedral.

Loved Rouen - it has great food markets and we cooked a lot in the apartment using some of the delicious and fresh ingredients we bought at the markets. Our three year old daughter loved the parks including one which had two local swans.

It was very convenient staying at such a centrally located apartment a short walk from the train station with great washing facilities. Close to lots of other sights around Normandie.

Rouen wasn't as touristy as some other places in France we visited. By the end of the 10 days we felt like locals and in fact I could have cheerfully stayed in this apartment forever.
