This Big Island home was absolutely delightful, truly perfect for our island getaway. The cabin is romantic and secluded, a home-away-from-home in the hills above Captain Cook, and has a truly beautiful aesthetic, with lots of thoughtful details. The kitchen is well stocked for making meals. We prepared our breakfast everyday on the gas stove, and there’s no lack of ways to make coffee--there’s an automatic coffee maker, French press, pour-over Melita, and an electric kettle, along with a generous starter supply of Kona coffee. Each morning we took our breakfast out to the gazebo in the yard, and had fun picking macadamia nuts to add to our oatmeal. There’s even a fancy macadamia nutcracker in the kitchen that my husband delighted in using.
The hum of the tree frogs at night is magical, and adds to the tropical feel of the place, and the elevation of the home means that nights are pleasantly cool. We slept well in the comfy bed with the sleeping loft’s windows open to the soft breezes.
Heide and Jeffrey were such gracious hosts, welcoming and available but never intrusive. The fresh selection of tropical fruit, homemade bread, butter and jam were a lovely welcome, and the information about the house and the island that were in the house were helpful, too. We made use of the washer and dryer, and appreciated the house being stocked with beach towels, beach chairs, and even a umbrella for use on picnics by the sea.
It’s a tropical paradise, one I’m SO glad we found. Thank you very much, Jeffrey and Heide. We can’t wait to return!
Jefferey and Heidi were such a wonderful host. They are such a sweet couple. Jefferey and I had a great communication before and during our stay. They welcomed us when we arrived and showed us everything around the house.
The cottage was so cute inside and outside and it was very clean. They had everything we needed.
Me and my husband enjoyed morning coffee at the beautiful garden every morning. our kids loved to pick up some macadamia nuts and read their books at the Gazebo. our bed was so so comfortable.
We enjoyed coming home from our beach or hiking to this sweet home!
I would HIGHLY recommend this beautiful cottage !
Thank you so much, Jefferey and Heidi!
We hope to see you both soon!

Our stay in the cabin was fantastic. Heidi and Jeffrey were very welcoming upon our arrival and wonderful hosts. The fruit basket, bread, eggs and jam were a treat. Everything you could need is provided (snorkel gear, books, cooking provisions, etc.). The cabin feels secluded but we enjoyed the proximity to Kona. The trailhead for Captain Cook (excellent snorkeling) was just minutes away. We look forward to staying here again.
This place is like paradise. You will find a beautiful wooden cabin in a lush garden with tropical fruits and two BBQ's. It is nice and quiet, the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing. The kitchen is great and has everything you can imagine, the bed is comfy and you will wake to the sounds of the forest in the morning. We just felt like home instantly. Heide and Jeffrey are fantastic hosts. They welcomed us with homemade bread and jam, even some eggs from their own chicken. The cabin has everything, from a hammock to snorkeling gear, boogie boards, books, ..........we loved it and we wish to come back here some time!!!
I would recommend this place and we hope to come back.
Everything was thought of, the cabin is beautiful and quiet ( the frogs at night did not disturb us at all)
Heides bread and jam and fruits and egg's tasted so good and warmed my heart.
We made wonderful daytrips from there and the owners gave us great tips .
The surrounding garden is beautiful , the cabin is big and comfortable with lots of Hawaii books - so no need to bring one. Our stay was magical and we hope to come back , the owners are the nicest people and very kind and thought of everything.
Would love to come back - we stayed 8 days in the cabin.
My husband and I spent 8 nights at Koa Cabin. We had stayed there several years earlier, and our wonderful memories influenced our choosing West Hawaii for this vacation as well. The location of Koa Cabin is stunning -- a huge expanse of land rich in foliage (macademia nut and avocado trees, beautiful flowering plants) that is extremely private. On the grounds, it is possible to sit at a picnic table outside the cabin, or have breakfast or dinner in the beautiful bamboo gazebo (at night, plug in the light string - magical.) My husband loved reading and dozing in the hammock! We picked up macademia nuts and used the special nut cracker to crack them, eating them with Heide's freshly baked bread and with the papaya, avocado, bananas, dragon fruit, guava and other fruits, piled high in a welcoming basket! The kitchen is marvelous, and it was a joy to create a dinner from fresh Hawaiian ingredients! I loved the sounds of the forest, including the tree frogs! Heidi and Jeffrey are the most hospitable, wonderful , caring hosts I have experienced in years of renting VRBO's. I could go on and on -- and have, actually, to my friends here who certainly wish they could fly to Hawaii and stay a week in Koa Cabin!
