My two friends and I highly recommend this property for your stay in the Hilo area. The condo is superbly furnished, very comfortable, and well stocked with a stunning view of the beach, which is only a few steps from the complex. We checked out several beaches in the area and this was by far the best one. We swam with turtles nearly every day. There are beach toys, umbrellas, extra chairs and bedding, lots of kitchen supplies, extras in the bathroom, and much more. Each room has a fan and there are lots of windows with screens for letting in a breeze. The balcony is large enough to sleep on (after being in places with tiny balconies). One of the most interesting features is the use of mirrors to maximize the view! This place is really special. We would come back here in a heart beat. There is a pay washer and dryer on each floor, and they recycle, which we were happy about. We loved the way the place is decorated. It is clean, well arranged and the beds are very comfortable. The owners ask that you not use the loft, so don't plan on that space being available. The kitchen is really small, but as long as only one person at a time is using it, it works just fine. The refrigerator, dishwasher and stove all appear to be new. The frig even has an icemaker. They furnish laundry baskets, plenty of beach towels and bedding. Wonderful place!
We loved the condo. It was all I had hoped it would be. The turtles were enchanting!
If I return (or rather when), I'll give you a call. I think Spencer will enjoy attending the University in Hilo.
All was delightful. Mahalo again. ALOHA!! <3
We've rented this condo for an extended period for the last two summers. It's perfect! You wake go to sleep to the sounds of Pacific waves. The balcony and master bedroom offer beautiful views of the lagoon. The front view provides Pu'u O'o vent, Mauna Loa, and Mauna Kea. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, there are coolers, chairs, towels, and swim gear for the beach, and there's a bus stop right in front of the condo if you opt to not rent a car. The protected lagoon offers safe swimming and snorkeling with turtle sightings at lower tides.
I enjoyed my stay in your property very much. I swam and dove in the ocean at least once every day, and met some very nice people who were ocean "lap swimmers" in the mornings, and enjoyed watching the kids and families play in the water at Carlsmith park. There are some very cool little eels (freckled snake eels) that burrow in the sand in the lagoon, with just their heads sticking out. I was started by giant turtles more than once when the visibility was not as good. I thought that the mirrored walls on the lanai and in the master bedroom were a wonderful addition, making it seem like I had a 180 degree ocean view at I stood in the apartment.
The apartment was clean and cheerful, and everything worked. It was nice having the lock box for the key downstairs to facilitate going to the beach to swim without worrying about carrying keys. (and maybe losing them).
We ate a lot of Poke from the "sack and save," and also enjoyed breakfast at Ken's. If you are a water person, and want to be able to swim and dive and still be close to Hilo and the grocery store, this is a great location.
This condo is in a great location: close to the airport, a short drive to downtown Hilo, and adjacent to a lovely beach park. The building is older, but the unit is very well maintained and amazingly well equipped. Others have listed all that is there - and we used it all! The dogs mentioned by others were not a problem - we only heard them once or twice when we were in the parking lot. The view from the balcony and bedroom is spectacular; we so enjoyed hearing the sounds of the surf, the frogs at night and the birds in the morning. The bed is very comfortable (we only used the back bedroom). The owner responds promptly to emails. The wifi is a bit spotty, and the laundry facility is down the hall, but overall this deserves its 5 star rating.
We really didn't know what to expect since we had never been to Hilo. We always try to find beach front, with to-die-for view but couldn't find anything that seemed to match those criteria. So we picked what we thought was the best available for our dates.
But after being there fore just over a week we have decided we picked the best. Hilo isn't like the other Hawaiian towns we've stayed in - and we've hit most of them. There aren't any big resorts and nothing has been built for quite a few years. But after a few days, we decided that is part of the charm - is ISN'T like most of the rest of the towns. It is old Hawaii, laid back, small, no chain restaurants.
The weather could have been better - we never got to do the helicopter flight over the volcano - but that was ok since Pele had decided to relax for awhile and nothing much is going on. In between rain squalls we visited the local parks, which are beautiful and well attended. The coastline is very beautiful with lots of little coves and turtles.
The condo is older and smallish but comfortable and well-equipped. The master bed is very comfortable (we didn't use the other) and the deck is great with wonderful views. I've never seen mirrors used so effectively to enhance small spaces! Without them we might have felt cramped but it all seemed much larger than it really is. The good binoculars were a very nice treat and one we have never found offered in much more expensive condos. All in all we felt Terry honestly cared about his guests.
I agree with the comments about the dogs across the street but Terry has no control there. And we didn't hear them once we went to bed and the sound of the surf cancelled them out. We loved the restaurant across the street - the food was good and the waitress we had (Beth) was lovely and friendly. Ask for her!
