Sobre esta propriedade

Quaint, Quirky And Quiet Barn Conversion Less Than 200 Yards From The Beach

Recently renovated to a high standard, Cobdens Cottage is quietly tucked away up a side road off the main street of Beer. With two bedrooms offering accommodation for four people in a double room and an en suite twin room, guests will be able to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the East Devon coast. Featuring oak floors throughout, and a pair of ancient elm beams, this is far from a typical property: A glass wall allows guests to watch the sloping garden at close quarters, with lower and upper decked areas and a wild meadow area in between which changes as the spring and summer pass. There are a selection of restaurants and pubs within a very short walk, as well as enough shops that you don't need to drive during your stay, and with the beach and countryside also only a short walk away it is very easy to escape from the hectic pace of modern life.
The area is steeped in history and natural history, and there are endless walking routes along the coast both east and west along the white limestone cliffs of Beer Head which give way to Devon Red sandstone and grey Lias as you venture along.
Fishing enthusiasts are spoiled with numerous shore fishing marks nearby and a fleet of both mackerel and deep sea charter boats either from Beer beach or Lyme Regis.
After a busy day the decked area outside makes a pleasant place to unwind in the evening, and let the stresses of your normal life slip away.

Great Base for East Devon
The property is very homely and well equipped, right in the centre of the small town of Beer and yet extremely peaceful, only a few minutes walk to the beach. We enjoyed walks along the coastal path and days out to Dartmoor and Dorset.

A week in Beer
A lovely place to base yourself to see the beautiful east Devon and Dorset coast.Enough pubs and places to eat to not need to use the car in the evening. The accommodation is good with a small well equipped kitchen and lovely wildflower meadow in the steeply slopining back garden.Note , we only have a Ford Focus and parking it was difficult and then became even more difficult after 3 days when the next door neighbour returned home with his car! Plenty to do in the area,we visited the Donkey sanctuary (free) ,Monkey World ape rescue (about 1 hr 15 mins drive) and the Beer Quarry which does a wonderful quided tour.Plus lots of lovely villages, towns and beaches.

Perfect place for a seaside getaway
Cobden's Cottage is perfectly located up a little lane in the heart of Beer village, so beach, shops, pubs and eating places are all just a couple of minutes away. The cottage itself is deceptively spacious with a fantastic glass wall at the back overlooking a garden which is cleverly planned to make the most of its steep slope and which is packed with plants and wildflowers - great to sit out in for breakfast and in the evening. This cottage would not suit a family with small children since it does (as Sue very clearly describes) have a quirky layout on different levels, but for us and our teenage son, it was perfect. The kitchen is very well equipped, so cooking was not a chore and we were also able to barbecue outside. Sue was an excellent host, providing quick and helpful communication at all stages of our trip and she was very welcoming on our arrival. All in all, we had a great week swimming, walking, fishing and just relaxing. We didn't want to come home!

Bright and comfortable cottage in great location.
We had a very enjoyable week in this bright and comfortable cottage. Despite its proximity to the main street it is very quiet with a lovely sloping garden. Parking space a bit tight but this is clearly pointed out in details. Bin collection calendar would be useful with advice as to where to place bin/recyclables for collection. Overall a great place to stay.

Sobre o anfitrião

Anfitrião: Jon Eaves : Sue Eaves

Imagem do perfil do anfitrião
We have lived in the area all our lives, finally escaping from Somerset to West Dorset about 20 years ago. Through diving we know the coast intimately, and also know it from different angles than most.
As working company directors much of our time is devoted to keeping our business customers happy, but we very much enjoy personally welcoming visitors to Cobdens Cottage to the area, and answering any questions they may have to help make their stay more enjoyable.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

Having both been born near Taunton, Beer was known from a very early age, especially when Jon took up diving nearly 30 years ago as Beer was a regular launching point for trips with Peter Crofts, who still runs one of the mackerel boats.
Beer has changed little in the last quarter of a century, with a firmly established Conservation area in the heart of the village keeping most of the less desirable elements of a seaside resort at bay.
Beer has a heart of its own... whether its windy, raining or sunny, the atmosphere is warm: The sea may crash in, but the stout stone beach keeps it at bay, making welcoming music at Cobdens Cottage.
There is nothing finer than a breakfast on the beach early on a sunny summer's morning, or sitting watching the sunset as the bass come in to feed

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

Having lived in the house, Jon knows it is very easy not to see another living soul all day, despite being only a few yards from the heart of the village: If you are seeking peace and solitude to write, you have found a place where you can direct your energies into your work.
You will not encounter any amusement arcades or the like in Beer, and yet the village is a lively, active place with the highlight of the year being Regatta Week in August when the vibrancy reaches a peak, and again on New Years Eve.
Anyone interested in the natural world will find endless attractions in Beer, with seashore and countryside immediately to hand, and the renowned geology of differing parts of the Jurassic Coast within yards.
Fishermen, sailors and photographers will certainly never bored
