A beautiful house with stunning sunsets and views of Albania. It is modern and comfortable in its furnishings and the air conditioning is welcome after a hot day. It is very clean and we had a welcome basket of local produce when we arrived. Another basket appeared halfway through the week, which was a pleasant surprise. The garden terrace is peaceful for dining in the evening or sitting out in the morning, as the sun doesn't hit it until about midday.
Acharavi has a lot to offer with beaches, restaurants and shops. If you have a car the coast is great to explore and Corfu town is only an hour away over the mountains.
The road however leading to the property is a single track with very few passing places and full of treacherous potholes. It is a slow climb in first gear and if you meet another car then it can be quite hair raising as reversing into an olive grove or trying not to drop over the edge of the mountain is tricky.
As it is a rural location the water has a tendency to go off at a moment's notice. It went off 4 times in one week for us and once for 48 hours, which was pretty annoying when you have plates to wash, toilets to flush and clothes to wash. Using bottled water and a kettle was not what I paid for. The last time was the final morning before we left for the airport, my son had a shower then the water cut out, so the rest of us were left hot and sticky until we reached the UK. Having spoken to those that holiday and live there it is a common occurrence, but I had no prior knowledge of it (or the road), so I felt that the property was misrepresented. It really spoiled the holiday for us and I was looking to relocate at one point as we were all getting very fractious with the whole situation.
Such a shame, if the property were somewhere else, with water, then I would go back time and time again, but I paid for 8 nights and felt that it was a bit of a struggle as every night we came in, tried the taps and cheered when water came out. Not really what you expect for that kind of money in 2016.
