One of the best things about the place is that there is no need to get in the car to go to another location to swim, bird watch, fish, enjoy country walks in wooded valleys or coastal walks to visit nearby beaches. Children can roam freely (as long as they are safe in the water) as the road is very quiet. There is a stream at the bottom of the garden, and there's space to kick a ball around above the beach.
There are nice places to eat within walking distance - the Fat Apple, pubs in St Keverne, and Roskilly's Farm (30-minute walk).
Twenty minutes in the car will take you to Helford, Frenchman's Creek, Kynance, (before or after high tide) Kennack Sands, Lizard Point, Gunwallow, Church Cove (if you're keen on gardens, Cross Common Nursery near there has a wonderful selection of plants). Porthleven has a good fish shop, the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek might interest children. Coverack is lovely for swimming (again, before or after high tide), St Anthony is on a very beautiful estuary, from where you can hire a boat.
