Accoce is an old Souletine farmhouse sitting in the middle of its land at the end of its own drive, looking out over the valley to the south and west, with a rugged peak and wooded crest behind. The house dates from at least the 16th century and has kept its beams, fireplace and old staircase. It boasts a good library with a good mix of light and serious reading and an enamelled log burning stove that can heat the whole house. The house sleeps seven with a maximum of 6 adults. The garden is large enough to can sit out in the open or under the apple tree, or to sunbathe. and it has culinary herbs; thyme, sage, rosemary, sarriette, mint and lemon mint, chives. There is also a morning sun area with picnic table beside the kitchen door.
Accoce is ideally located for hiking, as beautiful walks can be taken directly from the house without using the car at all. The GR10 passes through the village, and we provide information about many other local hikes (Pic d'Orhy, Pic des Escaliers etc). Fantastically fun for children: aside from playing in the stream and under the waterfall, or make huts or treehouses in the woods. There is the opportunity for quiet contemplation by the stream or among the trees. There is also a wonderful swimming hole 5k away (in the Saison river, with rock to dive from into icy clear water, otters, trout). The beach is 1½ - 2 hours away (Basque coast), La Pierre St Martin ski station is 12km away, handy village shop and bar is at the bottom of the hill, within easy walking distance and from which bread can be ordered. Good and friendly restaurant in the village (5km). More serious dining can be found a few kilometres away in Larrau and Tardets. Clean mountain air, peace and quiet, the tinkle of sheep bells. Dogs are permitted up to two, but no tents can be set up or additional people added beyond the maximum.
