The homes’ proximity to Longboat Pass makes it an ideal location for fishing, boating and exploring the spectacular turquoise bay and Gulf waters. The house is at the mouth of a gorgeous bayou that regularly has visits from manatees and families of dolphins and is situate in a secure gated community (though it is not part of the HOA and does not include the HOA amenities). This is a coveted location in the historic Longboat village due to it's friendly community and perfect for exploring on foot, with bikes or with golf carts that can be rented at Come and Go Golf Cart down LBK.
There is small inlet on the property perfect to access the water for a leisurely swim, kayaking or paddle boarding ( numerous rental outfits are in the area) down the mangrove lined bayou or out it's mouth into the aquamarine blue waters of the Longboat Pass.
Walk through the charming historic village to Beer Can, one of the most beautiful, white sandy beaches that stretches for miles. Stroll through the village hugging the bay to the waterfront restaurants: The Shore ,the new Whitneys and Mar Vista.which both serve local seafood and other delicious fare. Rent a bike or stroll through the village for a great breakfast with outdoor seating at the local Longbeach Cafe. A few miles south on Longboat, accessible by car or on the well maintained 14 mile long bike path, is the Center Shops with boutiques and cafes. A stones throw is the Award winning Euphemia Haye restaurant and The Haye Loft upstairs with a relaxing, popular bar that has live music and serves lighter fare and incredible desserts. Also there is the award winning Harrys Continental Kitchens for fine dining with indoor and outdoor seating as well as their deli with take away. Next door to Harrys there is a market with all the necessities and sundries for basic stocking up as well as the Longboat Bike Shop for all your bike rental needs. In the middle of the island you will find Durante Park with its native vegetation and meandering paths and sitting areas for a relaxing old Florida feel.
Longboat Key is perfectly situated between Anna Maria and Sarasota. It has a quiet, exclusive feel but just minutes to so many area attractions. At the southern tip of the Key you can go for a great burger at the local Salty Dog and visit Mote Marine Laboratory with many attractions as well as the Sarasota Sailing Squadron that offers clinics and lessons. Then continue on to St. Armands Circle for great shops, lots of dining options, homemade chocolate and gelato and further south into downtown Sarasota.
Just north of Longboat Key you will find the award winning Coquina Public beach with playgrounds, a food kiosk, changing rooms, showers and public restrooms. Five minutes north of the house is Bridge Street which is full of quaint shops, a fishing pier, numerous restaurants, our personal favorite is the Blue Marlin and across the street from beautiful, white sandy beaches. Across the bridge you will stumble upon the historic Cortez Fishing Village where you can buy great, fresh seafood by the docks and eat at another one of our favorite haunts, Tide Tables. There are boat rentals, parasailing outfitters , sunset sailing cruises and fishing excursions offered as well.
Further north down the beach is Anna Maria, another quaint area with yummy food, fishing piers and the Award Winning Beach Bistro Restaurant situated right on the beach overlooking The Gulf Of Mexico, perfect for a special occasion.
There are many other superb vacation attractions in the greater Sarasota area - back bay and deep gulf fishing, the Sarasota Ballet; the Sarasota Opera; the Sarasota Orchestra (New Florida West Coast Symphony), Asolo Repertory Theater; the John and Mable Ringling Museum and Ca' d'Zan Mansion; the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens; the Sailor Youth Circus; the Sarasota Jungle Gardens; the annual sea turtle hatch, boating; diving, golf, major league baseball spring training; the annual 4th of July Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix Festival; St. Petersburg/Tampa is just 50 minutes to the north with the Dali Museum and numerous other attractions.
