Basically for our first trip to Ireland this cottage exceeded our expectations. On arrival the owners greeted us with a welcoming bottle of red and a fresh-baked artisan loaf. And things only got better. The cottage was a delight. Beautifully furnished and comfortable. If the proof of really great accommodation lies in the ability to feel truly relaxed by doing nothing and just admiring the view, then this is just the cottage. Would I recommend it to friends? Naturally. But it was so good, I'd prefer to keep it a secret! A truly memorable holiday.
Malcolm was such a gracious host, meeting us at the property and giving us all the information we needed. The area is perfect for a true get away. The Cliff Walk at Ballycotton is close by and offers stunning views of the Atlantic and southern coastline. We felt relaxed and welcomed for our entire visit. Would love to come back someday!
The third, but not the last time!
We had the most beautiful stay at the Lighthouse cottage. Our holiday got off to a great start as our hosts were extremely kind and helpful in moving in. The house and views are even more beautiful than the photos!
We stayed here right before Christmas and there was a beautiful Christmas Tree that added to the coziness of the living room with a fireplace. We also had a chance to meet the neighbors who were so gracious in showing us the watchtower of the lighthouse too!
The house has all the amenities one would need for a long stay (from the kitchen to the laundry room). While the house is fairly secluded in location, there are some shops and great restaurants about a 10 minute drive away.
Look forward to coming back for another stay (and to see this beautiful place in the summer)! Would - and have already - highly recommend this place for an a perfect getaway.
Thank you Gerrie and Malcolm!
Geez, I don't know where to start. The house itself on its own rights is stunningly beautiful. Then add that it sits up on a promontory next to a working lighthouse with the most incredible views of the Cork harbour and you have a vacation spot that is one in a million. And you're surrounded by history! The neighbors property has two old towers that were used as communication sites to signal ship arrivals in the 19th and 20th century. Marconi used them to test his radio technology and the tallest tower was the one that received the first messages that the Lusitania was sinking..... Can you believe it! The people living in the area are so friendly and gracious. And the owners of the house are the best hosts. They actually check on you to make sure everything is ok! In a five star rating world this place is an easy 10. We couldn't believe how fortunate we were to find this home. Easy driving distances to all the hot spots in the area. Great hiking paths along the coastline. Lovely villages along the way with great pubs and spectacular historic sites. We used the house location to drive to Waterford, Wexford, and the city center of Cork. And then we would come home to a peaceful, pastoral home on the sea. What else can I say. If you have an opportunity to be in that area of the world.....Stay there!👍👍👍
We stayed here for several days including the day that Hurricane Ophelia hit Ireland. Roches Point was the windiest place on the mainland. The seas were very dramatic and the wind was unbelievably strong. We felt perfectly safe in a very solid lighthouse keepers cottage and had the best location to view the amazing weather.
The house is really great - spacious, very warm and comfortable. Malcolm was an excellent host.
As everyone on here says - the views are amazing - especially in the midst of a hurricane!
