Words cannot describe how wonderful!

This was our second stay after too long an interval and nothing disappointed again. Clean, spacious, well equipped, comfy beds in the heart of Bourgogne and the most affable and inviting hosts in the person of Theresa and Alistair one could find anywhere. Most helpful with suggestions as to all attractions in the area. Convenient location just off of N 6 at Pouilly-en-Auxois and in a beautiful pastoral setting. Chene's description in the listing was spot on. We would unequivocally recommend this to anyone looking for a gite in this area.

Pretty gite in great location

Easy to get to from Calais.Clean and comfortable rural gite in a beautiful garden.Great location for a first time visit to Burgundy equidistant give or take a few kilometres for Beaune and Dijon which are a must see. Also for exploring all the famous wine towns and discovering hidden gems.

We had very good weather and enjoyed dinner on the terrace most evenings after our days out. Easy to pick up food in markets and local super markets . Friendly owners and plenty of tips for sight seeing and eating/wine.

10 days not long enough at all.

Perfect for a Relaxing Holiday

This is a delightful property in a beautiful, peaceful location. The house itself is spacious, clean and comfortable and the garden is perfect for sitting out on warm evenings listening to the birdsong. It is in an ideal location for travelling to the attractive towns and villages of Burgundy and there are lovely walks in the lanes surrounding the property. Needless to say there are many wonderful places to eat nearby and the local wines are fantastic. Theresa and Alister are the perfect hosts and are always ready to share their knowledge of the local area. We really can't recommend it highly enough.

The scent of roses

An excellent, well appointed property in large grounds. The door is framed with roses and honeysuckle and on our arrival to be greeted by that scent, and the very welcoming Theresa and Alistair, was brilliant. The property has everything you would want, with no shortage of crockery and glassware, and there is a supply of essentials, such as cling film, salt and pepper, oil etc. We found it a very comfortable cottage.

The weather for our week wasn't great, so we didn't eat outside as much as we hoped; nor did we venture too far. However, we thoroughly enjoyed exploring Arnay le Duc, Pouilly, Mont Saint Jean and, our favourites, Chateauneuf (I need to re-watch the film Chocolat to see what I recognise) and Vandenesse. The site of SSI at Saint Agnan is worth a trip. Theresa and Alistair have provided a wealth of information about where to go, and it's worth listening to their advice. We went to Buxy Cooperative on their recommendation.

As others have commented, the cottage is out of town. It's about 5 miles from both Pouilly and Arnay le Duc, so walking to the nearest village for bread isn't an option. Beautiful Beaune is about 45 minutes away (or an hour and a half avoiding main roads and going the circuitous route as we did). The Canal de Bourgogne runs through the area, and is underground for about 2 miles at Pouilly. Seeing the tunnel and walking its route makes you realise what a fantastic feat of engineering it is. A boat trip runs daily from the port de plaisance (near the Super U in Pouilly) and may be worth taking to experience the tunnel first hand.

Contact with Theresa was easy and she sent us an excellent map and directions on how to find Chene cottage.

Resposta do proprietário: We thoroughly enjoyed Gill and Tom's company - they were perfect guests to have, were keen to explore the region in their own time and style, and were very positive about their stay - the weather was not too kind to them, but better than their other two weeks elsewhere, I gather! Just a little correction, the film Chocolat was made in Flavigny, a pretty medieval village about 40 minutes from us, near the world heritage site of Fontenay Abbey and not in Chateauneuf, which is about ten minutes from us, a very pretty medieval village as well, with stunning views and good places to eat and watch the world go by. Do hope you will return to Burgundy again one day.

Wir hatten einen sehr angenehmen Aufenthalt in der Ferienwohnung in Burgund. Wie schon in anderen Bewertungen beschrieben, sind die Vermieter sehr nett und sehr hilfsbereit. Sie vermitteln das Gefühl, willkommen zu sein wie gute Freunde. Die Wohnung war wie im Prospekt beschrieben , der Garten wie ein kleiner Park. Trotz teils verregneter Urlaubstage haben wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen sehr gerne wieder.

My wife and I were guests at this property from May 30 to June 9, 2016. We found the duplex apartment to be very clean, comfortable and spacious. The large garden was a delight to see with its large oak, many fruit trees and an abundance of flowers just coming into bloom. Our host and hostess were very friendly, and we enjoyed socializing with them on several occasions. They provided us with such basics as sugar, salt and some spices, coffee, cooking oil, detergent, soap, etc. During our stay Theresa also came with a lovely bouquet of wild flowers. There were also adequate kitchen utensils, pots and pans, a good corkscrew, various types of drinking glasses, dishes, cutlery and tea towels. For the bathroom we were provided with bath, face and hand towels, which were exchanged for fresh ones on our eighth day there. WIFI worked perfectly in the apartment.

We were primarily interested in taking long walks or hikes in the countryside when the weather permitted. We found several paths for short walks in the immediate vicinity of the apartment. The Canal de Bourgogne, which is some 15 minutes away by car with ample parking at the village Vandenesse, affords opportunities for several longer walks. Further afield was the Morvan Regional Park with dramatic scenery, such as waterfalls, lovely lakes and low mountain ranges, all with a multitude of hiking trails. Unfortunately the weather conditions, i.e. electrical storms and persistent rainfall, during our stay curtailed much of our walking activity.

Our secondary interest was the cultural aspect. Despite the weather we did get to visit the lovely Fontenay Abbey, about an hour's drive north by secondary roads. On the way we saw some of the medieval half-timbered structures in Vitteaux, a small but bustling town. Near the Canal de Bourgogne is the tiny picturesque medieval village of Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, also some 15 or 20 minutes from the apartment by car. The village's name is derived from the imposing 12th century castle, which is well worth the € 5 admission.

Apart from the weather, for which no one but Mother Nature can be held accountable, we were very satisfied with with our stay.
