This was our 2nd year in a row coming to this house in the Berkshires in the fall. We'll definitely keep coming back! The house is always clean and cozy, and this year not only did the only leave us a bottle of wine, but numerous candles as well to set the mood for the weekend. Despite the rain for almost the entire stay, we made the most of it by putting on a fire, playing games, and enjoying being out of the city. Hope to be back for our 3rd year in 2017!
Great place to stay if you are looking to "unplug" and enjoy quiet and the outdoors. We stayed here for a wedding, and were able to walk to the venue at Gedney Farm - couldn't have been more convenient! We arrived late Friday and were greeted with a bottle of wine from the host - very sweet touch for these wine lovers. The yard is HUGE, with a BBQ and a fire pit, though we had some trouble finding the fire pit. Tip: it's close to the road, past the BBQ. We did all of our cooking on the grill because the oven was pretty dated and BBQ > cooking indoors. Grocery store, liquor store...basically everything...is a 15-20 minute drive in Great Barrington. On the way to Great Barrington you pass a trail head for the Appalachian Trail, and I'm sure other fun, outdoorsy things. We just didn't have the time to really explore (wish we did!)
The cabin itself is cozy, but the "bedroom" is nothing but a loft, accessible by some pretty steep (almost ladder-like) steps that can be a little daunting, especially after drinking. We brought our dog with us, and he was terrified of the stairs. He had to be carried up and down every time. Just beware!
One other thing to note: bring drinking water and water to cook with! The tap water and shower water smell like iron, a lot. We ran both for a few minutes, and it got worse, not better. This was my least favorite part, but not a deal breaker in the least. You're in the Berkshires, not a 5 star hotel.
A lovely cottage surrounded by meadows in a peaceful, beautiful part of the Berkshires, and reasonably close to Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow and other destinations. Nice touches include a bottle of wine from the owner, an outdoor patio with a grill, and a couple of bikes in the shed. A very nice weekend getaway for a couple. Recommended.
This cottage is very small, dirty and needs repairs.
My husband and I were in need of a place to stay in New Marlborough for a wedding at Gedney Farm, and lucked out in finding this property (only a seven-minute walk from the farm, making it very easy to get home at night!).
Jim's communication was great prior to our arrival (even reassuring me about the actual location of the house when Google Maps wanted to tell me differently). Arrival was great, and we were welcome to stay as long as we wanted on departure day.
We enjoyed the privacy, the fenced-in deck (which had at least one significant shaded spot no matter the time the day). Upon arrival, we noticed that Jim had gifted us a bottle of wine to enjoy on our first night, which we took advantage of! Everything was thought through. The only hiccup proved to be not enough bath towels for two people to use to shower, but I noticed it immediately and called Jim, who was able to have someone drop off extra towels to us the next morning before we needed them to shower.
Beautiful location - we are already thinking about when we can make another reservation!
We stayed here for the month between our move to AZ until the time our new house was ready in Eastern Mass. We needed a location that had solid internet service but would still provide a pleasant experience as it was a lengthy stay. We brought our pets and spent a number of mornings playing with our dog at Umpachene Falls, exploring Great Barrington, Sheffield, Stockbridge and even took an outing to Barkhamsted, CT for an old school drive-in. The cabin was fully stocked with all that we'd need, situated in a beautiful location surrounded by quaint towns and everything had been exactly as described by the owner who was extremely accommodating. In fact, when our cross-country drive took fewer days than expected, he permitted us entry to the cabin upon our arrival despite it being a few days prior to check-in. Great guy, great rental.
