We fly fished on the South Toe River, Pottery shopped in Bakersfield, and Relaxed on the wonderful patio.
We had a great trip to the cabin. The little town of Burnsville is precious. Lots of cute stores. The cabin road was pretty winding, but it was certainly a peaceful spot. The only thing that would have made it better is if the river had been up and my Mom as well. She was not feeling well and we had to cut our trip short. There has been quite a drought. Great porch on this cabin!
Cozy, comfortable, pet-friendly cabin. Loved the deck with hammock, rocking chairs, & swing to sit back & relax in while enjoying the sights & sounds of the river. Also, the caretaker was very helpful when I had a couple questions. The location is convenient to Asheville (~45 min) and there's a grocery store about a 15 min drive into town. Internet & cell phone service is spotty, but that's to be expected in the mountains. Overall, really enjoyed the cabin & plan to visit again in the future.
Location was great. River was terrific.Porch facing river was also very nice but they do need to replace the BQ grill cooking rack. TV's were poor at best. One in bedroom only worked for DVD's but no TV connection. Remote only had one battery in it. One in living room was serviceable but very very old. Internet connectivity was the only saving grace here. Living quarters were good but beds were on the hard side and living room funiture was quite old and some what uncomfortable. Check out insructions were confusing and a little bite rediculious. Nothing in there about what to do with the linnens or dirty towels? All in all we enjoyed our stay but are not sure we would rent this unit again with some up dates.
My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at the clearwater cabin and wish we had been able to stay longer. The location was great as it was tucked away from the main town (burnsville), but if you needed to find some place to eat or grab some items, there were restaurants, grocery and pharmacy stores about 20 minutes away. There is no cell phone signal (which is great) but the wi-fi is excellent. TV has a selection of channels, not that we used it much. Two bedrooms, one double bed and the other two single beds, the couch is comfy, the bathroom has great cold or hot water and good pressure. The kitchen is fully stocked, if you want to cook there all you need to do is bring the meat, veggies, dairy, or grains. All other ingredients are there and all the tools you need are available. We didn't cook, we just heated (pizza, milk, toast, etc.). There is a microwave, a stove, toaster oven, and coffee maker. We also had lots of wine while we sat outside and watched the passing rain storms and played UNO on the incredible back deck patio facing the South Toe River (lots of card and board games provided as well). From this cabin home base, we traveled up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Grandfather Mountain, Mount Mitchell, and Linville Falls. We ate at Pig and Grits and Rio and shopped at Ingles (all a 20 minute drive). We tubed down the South Toe River from the Hall's Chapel Church drop in to the cabin (about a 30 minute float) and had a great time navigating the "rapids" of the river. We also spent a whole day white water rafting about an hour away in Marshall at the Blue Heron WhiteWater Rafting Company. We visited the Quiet Reflections Retreat as well which is up the street from the cabin. All in all a great place to stay, wish we had spent more time but do hope to return. My only negative feedback is that I'm not sure why there is a clean up fee, you do have to take care of your own garbage and leave the cabin in the same state you found it in (wash dishes, throw out trash, etc), the only clean up I imagine was done was laundry and maybe a quick wipe down of furniture since we didn't even track sand from the river into the cabin. Gary (property manager) was an absolute pleasure to work with and took care of the broken water pump while we were out and it was fixed when we returned. He also helped us get a later check out which was very helpful since we took the time to float down the river and then shower before heading back to Florida. <3 Will return
My husband and I recently spent a week at Clearwater Cabin, with our two children (ages 7 and 9). What a great retreat! It is smartly decorated, private, and well appointed, with all the conveniences of home (including internet). There are many windows to leave open, by which to enjoy the sounds from the river as well as the babbling creek, that runs along by the kitchen and master bedroom. Great cross ventilation and perfect weather, even in the middle of summer! The ceiling fans kept the rooms very comfortable when there wasn't a breeze. We didn't venture out to eat much, so I was happy to find lots of spices and condiments to make our meal preparations not only more flavorful, but economical as well, since we didn't have to invest in various accoutrements. We all loved being right on the river and my kids stayed down there playing for hours every day. There is a small beachy area that stays sunny until early evening, so I enjoyed being able to tan (and then cool off with a quick dunk in the river). My husband caught a nice size trout the first day! The river is easily negotiated (wading by foot) to get to other spots to cast out or float downstream on a tube. The deck is very large and offers beautiful views of the river. It's nice also (from a parent's perspective) to be able to see down from the deck, to check on the children at the shoreline. We chose not to venture out sightseeing too much (this vacation anyway), but having been to the area prior to this visit, we can attest to the many attractions and activities for folks of all ages and interests. Clearwater Cabin is in perfect proximity to many of the wonderful sights of Western NC and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for either some peaceful R & R or activity filled days of splashing, seeing, and doing! One week wasn't long enough for us... next time we'll make it two for sure. A special thanks to Winter Star Real Estate for their courteous professionalism. Julia was a pleasure to do business with and we eagerly look forward to our next stay!
