What a perfect place to spend Columbus Day weekend visiting my daughter who attends Paul Smith's College. The home has anything you might need and has a very cozy feel. There is plenty of space for a big family. I love the secluded peaceful location of Church Pond. Whether you want to head into a nearby town, hike, or paddle, this location is perfect!! Thank you for sharing your home!
What can I say...Thank you so much Komp family for sharing your lil piece of heaven with us. We have never been so pleased with a vacation. You really only have to just bring your clothes and food as the Komp family supplies everything else. As they say just do a lil searching you will find what you need. The family enjoyed boating on the pond, watching shooting stars from the dock, to just sitting on the dock taking in the nature. Our daughter made friends with Mr.Loon as he posed for her to take his picture. Was a wonderful sound to listen to in the early morning. We were so impressed with the rental and can't wait to return!! Wish I could give this a 10 star review. Well worth it! Thank you again to the Komp family!!
6 of us stayed at the Komp house on Church Pond in Saranac Lake and had a wonderful time. Every amenity was provided including 2 kayaks and a paddle boat. We enjoyed sitting on the dock watching the stars! There was so much room in the house and would be ideal for families as well. The kitchen had everything you would need. Loved having a gas grill, the fire pit, boats, and the upper deck was perfect for eating and relaxing. We even had wi-fi and cable TV. We will definitely be back! I would recommend this rental to anyone. (Try the Rails to Trails bikes - great time!!) Googlemaps took us to the exact location easily.
What can we say? We spent a week at this home with two other couples. It was our first trip to the ADK and we wanted something convenient to Placid and Mt. Marcy. This little gem is about 30 minutes from Plake Placid, and 15 minutes from Saranac and Tupper Lakes. It is a water front property on a small pond. The little community there is very quiet and peaceful. We spent evenings on the deck and around the fire pit enjoying the great July weather and enjoying the call of the loons.
The house itself fit our group perfectly. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and everything that we needed was found eventually. Tom was a gracious host and met us when we arrived. The only downside was that the dryer had broken and parts were not yet available. Not a big deal and Tom apologized for the inconvenience. It turned into an upside when we discovered a great little laundromat/Donut shop in Tupper Lake! Definitely worth checking out.
The furnishings were rustic but clean and well kept, complimenting the setting in the woods. There were other homes available in the are on the larger lakes, but the value and seclusion put this one at the top of our list. If we make this an annual trip we will be booking this house again!
We took a day trip to Montreal, which was about 3.5 hours away. Hiked Mt. Marcy, took several shopping/meal excursions to Lake Placid. Check out the ski jumps. Definitely worth the money for the view from the top! We took golf clubs but didn't get a chance to play due the busy schedule. There is a course right across the pond from the house. Condition looked nice but pricey.
Fishing from the dock was relaxing. Some panfish and a few decent sized bass. Overall this was a great introduction to the Adirondacks. If you want a busy hectic lake front property with motor boats and foot traffic look somewhere else, but if you want to relax and take in the peaceful nature of this area, you've found your spot!
Our group consisted of 3 adults (ages 41-65) and 2 boys (ages 15 and 11). This property, the pond, and the surrounding area proved just the ticket for our annual summer retreat. The no-motor policy on Church Pond reinforces the serene atmosphere. Whether out on the dock or the back deck, the only interruption to a good book was the occasional nap.
The house was fully furnished with just about anything and everything. As the owner explained upon our arrival, "if you can't find something, keep looking - it's here somewhere!" It literally felt like home by nightfall.
The pond is just the right size. From the dock, you see almost the entire perimeter. This is handy so you have time to ready the camera as you watch your young fisherman paddle back to the dock to display their lunker smallmouths!
Squirrels, loons, and a curious doe in the driveway made for other lasting critter moments.
The area is fantastic for walking, biking, or even a leisurely drive. We even played a round of golf at the Saranac Inn Golf Course just a stone's throw away. We reinforced the notion that we are poor golfers, however, we played 18 holes without waiting or holding anyone up behind us.
The property makes you feel as though you are a million miles from civilization, but a short drive into Saranac reveals all the shops and eateries you could ever need. Take advantage of the local farmers market, as well.
This vacation home was everything we could have wanted and more. The owner is courteous to deal with and very welcoming upon your arrival. We wished we could have stayed longer, but reality beckons.
In short, the house, Church Pond and the surrounding area, and the owner, Tom, all receive the highest recommendation from these vacationers. Thank you!
A group of six of us (male and female, all early 30s) plus a dog stayed at this property over Memorial Day weekend, travelling up from New York City. The house is large, clean, and comfortable with three bedrooms that can sleep up to 10 (although more than 6 adults would be a bit of a squeeze), two fully equipped bathrooms, a large kitchen and living room, direct access to Church Pond (which is actually a huge lake) and a deck on the first floor with an idiot proof barbecue. The pier that juts out into the pond is an ideal sunbathing location, too. In general, the photos on this site really don't do justice to how nice the place is!
The owners are great. Really welcoming and accommodating, evening providing guests with a rowing boat, two kayaks and a pedeloe to use for no extra charge! They sent us all documents, driving instructions etc in advance, and our deposit was returned promptly.
The Adirondack region is just amazing, and the location of this property is ideal in terms of providing a secluded place to relax without being too far away from civilisation, with the nearest town being about a 20min drive away (Saranac Lake to the north, Tupper Lake to the South). We did not go out to eat at any point during this trip, but from a previous visit I know that Saranac Lake has a number of good cafes and restaurants that are worth checking out if you don't feel like cooking. If you plan to eat in most of the time it is a good idea to do all shopping up front as repeat shopping trips to the nearest towns would get annoying.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone considering a trip to the region. Even if you have restricted mobility there is a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor as well as the deck, kitchen and living room, and there are no steps or tricky pieces of terrain between the property and the lake.
In summary, we had a fantastic time. It was well worth the drive and I know that everyone in our group would happily stay at this property again.
