We reserved this rental for our family of 7 adults and two children. We chose this rental because of the owner’s description and past renter reviews. Unfortunately, our stay was laden with troubles.
- No arrival instructions were provided. The owner was aware that an automated email had not been going out this year but did not make any attempt to provide these via email, text, or phone.
- The couches and throw pillows had stains and clearly had not been cleaned in some time. I wouldn’t let my children touch any of them.
- The kitchen tiles were unattached from the floor.
- Despite three conversations with the owner arranging sheets and towels prior to our arrival, no sheets or towels were provided. When towels were provided, they didn't provide enough for the confirmed number of guests.
- During our visit we had the following issues: the toilet would not flush (her husband came to fix it), the fridge leaked creating a puddle of water in the kitchen, the TV had no remote (the husband went out and bought one) and the tv had no stand so it was leaning up against the wall (a hazard), the drawers of the tv cabinet were falling down (the husband noted how terrible it was).
- Most notably, there was rain during our stay so the ceiling in the hallway began to collapse leaving water and plaster down the stairs and throughout the hallway. We cleaned this up ourselves…
All of these issues were reported to the owner and sadly she shared these were things she was aware of before our stay. Although, her description of the house was that it was “quality”, the house was very poorly maintained. When we complained on the last day about our stay, she did not acknowledge how poor our experience was at first, but instead sent photos of a comp that what we could have rented for the same price. That was the icing on the cake. Another rental at a similar price her previous tenant thought was in bad shape doesn’t make her rental in poor shape acceptable.
The only positive I can share with future renters is that the owner was responsive to texts and ultimately refunded our cleaning fee.
