Located on Frenchman's Bay in the scenic Schoodic Peninsula, a short drive to Bar Harbor, Tree Tops Cottage is the private and charming guest house of a beautiful coastal estate on five acres of woodland, gardens, and a peaceful, protected, and pristine shore front. High in the branches of old pines, the 3-level cottage has panoramic views from all three levels of the mountains of Acadia, small islands, seasonal cruise ships at anchor, lights of Bar Harbor at night, and the occasional lobster boat working from local fishing villages. Wander along garden paths to the water where you can launch your kayak on a quiet cove and paddle into Flanders Bay, by Seal Rocks, and pull up on a Sandy Beach for lunch and a swim. The protected cove is a perfect place to try kayaking in the finest paddling waters in the area, or striking out in an exploration of the many islands that make up the calm side of Frenchman's Bay. Take your camera as you look for nesting bald eagles, and walk along our shore to find sea heather in season. Relax in a hammock or chair by the water, watch the tide ebb and flow, or capture a spectacular sunset at the end of your day. In close proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, we are just a brief drive to Acadia National Park here on the Schoodic Peninsula. You can explore miles of carriage roads for walking and biking, the stunning park loop road by the ocean, and endless trails and paths for hiking and walking.
At the end of the day, return to the cottage and relax on the large deck or the screened porch, surrounded by trees and gardens. The first level master suite now has a half bath for your convenience. Two double French doors open onto the deck where you can enjoy morning coffee along with the ever-present hummingbirds. The main level has a full bath, completely furnished kitchen and living area, with dining table, relaxing chairs, and a couch in a cozy nook for reading or napping, and a fireplace that adds to the comfort and charm. Walk from the living room into the elevated screened porch, a captivating environment for alfresco dining or relaxing on the chaise, taking in the beauty of the bay. A window wall in the open loft creates a tree top aerie with spectacular views, a desk and chair for work and games, a television, and additional sleeping accommodations for one person. Whether you are looking for a destination to relax in the Schoodic and Bar Harbor area, enjoy the gardens and explore Downeast Maine, or want an active vacation to hike, bike, or paddle, Tree Tops Cottage welcomes you. The semi-retired owners, normally in residence, can be an excellent resource for all activities in the area, especially biking, hiking, and paddling. The cottage provides a unique setting to experience the best that beautiful Downeast Maine has to offer. As the cottage is close to the water and has three levels with stairs, it is most suited for adults and children 12 and older. It is furnished and equipped to accommodate three.
