We have just returned from a two week stay at Le Touron. Myself and my husband stayed with our four children and my mother and father in law and the villa was absolutely perfect for our needs. June and Gerry are wonderful people, there to welcome us to the property and always on hand if there was anything we needed. The property and the grounds are nothing short of glorious and the jewel in the crown has to be the amazing outdoor pool, which kept my children (and everyone else for that matter) amused for hours at a time. The house is a perfect place for families, our youngest is just 2 years old, and June and Gerry went to the trouble of calling before our trip to ensure that they could get the house suitably "baby safe" for us before our arrival.
The interior and exterior of the house are beautifully kept. June and Gerry have given lots of thought to all those "little extras" which really make a difference, plenty of fluffy towels provided, washing powder and a very well equipped kitchen with dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid all there ready for your use in the first few days.
The area around Le Touron is beautiful, very green and plenty of beautiful valleys and spectacular chateaus which sit atop stunning cliff edges. The area is perfect for cycling and my husband and father in law were out most mornings on their road bikes before the sun got too hot.
All of the towns and villages here are very pretty but Domme and Sarlat were particular highlights for us. Sarlat is a busy market town with plenty to see and do and lots of lovely bars and restaurants to frequent, whilst Domme is quite possibly the most idyllic little sleepy French town I have ever seen and if you wander to the top of the town there is a spectacular view down over the valley and you can see the Dordogne River which carves it's way along the valley floor.
The weather was beautiful whilst we were there but we did still drag ourselves away from the pool occasionally and there are plenty of things to do locally. We went canoeing in the Dordogne and visited the largest Chateau in the area, Chateau de Castellnaud, which was breathtaking. We also took a day trip to the city of Cahors (Just over an hour away) and Bergerac is also a wonderful place to visit.
We have visited France many times but it was our first time to this area and it is now top of our list to return to. Thank you Gerry and June for letting us stay, we hope to return very soon!
