Lovely house, everything was more than perfect. You could tell it is a private place. We had a wonderful time. Lucky we picked Meta and not Sorrento because it was less busy. Parking is the only problem but the train station is close and the train is unexpansive and reliable.
We really enjoyed our stay in Meta. The house was perfect, excellent location, spacious, characterful and comfortable.
We stayed in the house for a week and selected it as a good location for visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples. The Circumvesuviana station is just 20 minutes walk and although the train was very crowded at times it proved an excellent and cheap way of getting around. Meta itself is a charming little town with some lovely old buildings and some good restaurants.
The Captain's House is stunning, the centerpiece being the lovely airy sitting room with it's high domed ceiling. The bedrooms are equally spacious with comfortable beds and plenty of bedding. The two bathrooms are attractively decorated and well equipped. The kitchen was also well equipped with a four burner gas hob and a small counter top oven. There are plenty of pots, pans, crockery and utensils. A microwave would have been a nice addition. The photos of the roof terrace don't do it justice. It has a lovely dining area surrounded by plants and a good sized sun deck with almost 360 degree views around the bay of Naples. Owing to an adjoining building the sun did go off the terrace from about 3 but returned at about 6:30.
Guiseppe the owner was very helpful before and during our booking.
We will definitely be booking this property again in the future.
The flat is right in the middel of a lively Italian town.
Meta is an original, charming and authentic.
There are a number of little shops and restaurants, not built for mass tourism.
The journey to the train station is a 20 minutes walk and from there you can easily and cheaply explore the Amalfi coast.
Some small down sides are not due to the accommodation but Italy and the August high season. Small shop keepars are friendly and fair. The guy at the car park saw me coming and charged 50 Euro where the notice said 15. The ambient noise levels are 'Italian' e.g. children are up and crying till the small hours of the morning.
But that's the 'real Italy' and part of the passion and warmth of the people. You should definitely give it a go.
Lovely holiday, ideal place to stay, great view (especially from the terrace at sunset)
Giuseppe was very kind and helpful via emails before the holiday. Fortuna made us feel welcome during the holiday itself, even taking the trouble to meet us at the top of the hill, with a friend who spoke good English, on the day we arrived.
The apartment is well equipped, spacious and decorated in a simple but personal way. It feels more like you're a guest in someone's home than a tenant in a holiday apartment.
The locals were all very friendly, giving us useful tips and helping us improve our dreadful Italian. Easy to get around on buses and trains, so no need for a car. We cooked a lot at home, but Tico Tico is a great choice if you want to eat out, the nearby cafe is nice too, and the locally made cheese from just over the road is a must.
A terrific apartment in a beautiful and fascinating part of the world - we'll definitely be back.
The house was decorated in a light and pleasant style. Very well equipped. It was clean and well maintained. There is a roof area that has some good views of the hills behind Meta and partial views of the sea.
There is no easy parking so using public transport or motorbikes would be best. There are regular buses from the airport that stop in Meta (timetable can be found via Google).
We had a very reasonable meal at Taverna Pulcinella just down the road. Public transport is generally very good though some buses can be full. There is an approx 15 minute walk to the Circumvesuviana which gets you to Pompeii/Herculaneum and other sites very easily. Pompeii is fantastic and deserved more time than we allowed (Vesuvius takes more than the 3 hours suggested to visit).
Boat trip information in Sorrento in particular was very unreliable for the boats to Amalfi. It was a relatively short trip by bus from Meta to Positano (which is one of the nicest towns to visit in the area) and you could get a boat to Amalfi from there or vice versa.
Overall a marvellous trip.
We all loved the apartment, which is very spacious and comfortable and is more like a house as it is on 3 levels and has the lovely roof terrace and sun-bathing deck. We didn't want to leave the apartment to come home and could have stayed there much much longer.
The only criticism would be not enough towels provided but as we had use of the washing machine we just washed them and they were dried in no time on the roof "drying green"!
Fortuna collected us from the train station when we arrived which was very much appreciated and we thank her for that and also for the extra key.
We ate at several restaurants nearby but our favourite was Tico Tico. (Lovely seafood). The locals in Meta were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. The local bar even tuned his TV in for us to watch the Scottish Referendum unfold.
