Location was great and the owner was very accommodating, getting back to any question promptly before our stay.
The positive factor is the location. It is however an old building with no insulation at all from noise which made it impossible to sleep.
I did expect noise and some difficulty getting to sleep especially on Friday and Saturday night, but it was relentless.
Excessive noise from people, bars, bells, rubbish collection, traffic.
We all struggled to sleep here for the six nights.
The city was very busy due to motogp, but even if this hadn't have taken place the lack of sleep would still have been an issue.
So in nutshell, if sleep deprivation is an issue for you, I'd recommend an insulated apartment. It needs to be improved on every level.
The toilet, which is next to the kitchen has no sink to wash your hands in.
Water pressure very poor in bathroom.
The apartment needs to be decorated. The windows need to be double glazed to keep out at least some noise. Would not be able to return or recommend as it is right now.
I am aware that the review is dominated by lack of sleep but we have returned absolutely shattered.
Even sleeping with earplugs in didn't alleviate the situation.
We had a very nice stay for 5 days at Rebeca's apartment. The location can't be beat -- it is at the very heart of the Ciutat Vella, and it really is about a one minute walk to the Old Market, the Valencia Cathedral, the Church of St. Nicolas, many restaurants and cafes, and more. The apartment does indeed have the promised high ceilings and beautiful tall windows. The kitchen was well-equipped in general. The only things I was missing were a coffee maker, perhaps a hair dryer (good for many women and it's heavy to travel with one), and perhaps beach towels (again, heavy for traveling). (We had plenty of towels for normal bathing, but beach towels could be a bonus in a beach town.) Also, it was wonderful that wifi is included.
Rebeca responded very quickly to our rental request and everything went smoothly. She was very welcoming and gave us helpful tips for orienting in the Old City, which seems rather labyrinthine at first (part of the charm!).
A tip for Valencia beaches: we discovered that the city beach (accessible by bus - just ask Google, about a 30 minute ride) is excellent: clean and very well taken care of, with very good facilities. Warm water (end of August, at least!). You can rent lounge chairs with cushions and a permanently installed beach umbrella for EUR 4.50 each (thus a chair and umbrella for under EUR 10) for the entire day. We came with our baby, so the umbrella was key to us enjoying our day. Also, there are little stores near the beach for drinks and basic food items.
Muchas gracias, Rebeca y familia. Nos gustó mucho. Hasta la próxima!
