Breath taking view!
Villa Soumela is a wonderful property situated in the hills just above Nikiana, a beautiful small town with a port, some fantastic restaurants, shops and a very popular bakery.
From the moment we made enquiries with regards to Villa Soumela we had the pleasure to respond with Sophia, who with her husband Chris are the most wonderful hosts, nothing was too much trouble, they were staying in the next door and on our final day they invited us to join them for a bbq and drinks which made our stay so special.
The property is built into the hill with a steep mountain face behind and glorious open views to the front. The adjoining villa is close to Soumela but you are able to retain your own privacy. At the front of the villa is a small road and then an orchard with seating area and foosball table to entertain. Sophia and Chris were very happy for us to use this area.
The pool is of a good size and we spent many days and evenings having fun. The interior of the property is well furnished, modern and very comfortable. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs, one with twin beds and the other is the master with a wonderful balcony. Downstairs there is another double bedroom. On the lower ground floor is a TV room and also a large utility room with a door that goes down another level to an integral garage. Everything is well designed and contained.
The roads are small and bumpy but once you have established the different routes to the villa they are easy enough to get to different parts of Lefkada.
This small but fantastic part of Greece is truly worth exploring. If you want a more lively time then its a short drive to Lefkada Town 20mins or even shorter distance to Nydri which we only visited on our last day which again had a good amount of shops and restaurants. However Nikiana does have some great restaurants - Taverna O Minas, Porto Nikiana and the NV bar.
However we did head to Vasiliki beach which was around 40/50mins drive but worth the effort. If you can pre-book they have a very large wind surfing and water activities school. We also arrange a boat trip which takes you to Egkremni beach which we stayed for around 3 hrs and then back to Porto Katsiki where we didnt get off the boat but we were able to jump off the boat into the warm fantastic water. I would thoroughly recommended the trip.
Unfortunately we only had a week but our intention is to book another couple of weeks next year as it was a truly special place and special villa!
