This space was perfectly located for walking Savannah and it was also great to have a place to park the car (included in rental) and not worry about it all weekend. The room(s) were older and a bit worn but none the less, comfortable and suited us fine.
The price was good for the location but I highly disagree with homeaway / VRBO's cleaning fee's. Especially when you rent a place and they expect you to take out the trash, do the dishes, pile the dirty linens etc... I understand a deposit for any damage or excess mess but to charge upwards of $100 in excess of the rental fee just to have someone make the bed and pickup the dirty sheets? I would feel less injured/insulted if that was just included in the rental and not shown as a separate cost. They bait you with a low price and then add a fee for this and a fee for that. May as well get a hotel....
For other guests and to add transparency and understanding, I would point out this person seems to imagine that the service fee and maid fee are both added by us. That isn’t correct. The service fee is not charged by us and we don’t receive a dime of it. It is a percentage of our rate added by the third party booking site HomeAway/Vrbo for their company income. The worldwide booking site parent company Expedia is the owner of lots of other affiliates so guests on other websites may be reading this too. The homeowner and local vacation rental company do not charge the service fee. Guests who book on this platform pay the service fee and we ourselves also pay $500 per year just to advertise on this website. On the other hand our maid fee is a set flat fee we pass on to her to setup the apartment for each new guest. We can’t roll it into the rate because she does get the same pay each time she comes to setup the unit whether the guest stayed a week or just one night. We pay her that fee and she doesn’t just do all the laundry she vacuums, mops, sanitizes and dusts and sets the place up with dish soap, bath soap, toilet paper and shampoo. She has to keep her schedule open seven days a week to drive here any day of the week that guests checkout and her pay of $55 for all of that is very fair. It could not get done properly for less. It is true we ask guests to standardize the maids scope or work by washing their own dishes (leaving them in the dishwasher is even acceptable). We would have to charge more or varying amounts if we allowed unlimited dirty dishes to be left for the maid at checkout. We don’t require the bed to be stripped and leaving the used towels in a pile is merely a suggestion hardly a chore/requirement. The only other comment I would add as a response to this review is that the rooms are not simply “old and worn” this is building from the mid 1800’s located in the landmark historic district. It’s true some guests may prefer to simply get a hotel but I think that’s more accurate for those who don’t appreciate the historic buildings and would enjoy new construction hotels. They are more expensive overall though if you want to be anywhere near this location in the city.
Hidden Gem in Historic District
We stayed here for a couple of nights in February. The property was absolutely beautiful and having a dedicated parking spot is an added bonus. Just park your car and you can walk everywhere around the Historic District
Mary was great to work with throughout the entire process
I would definitely stay here again if I am traveling to Savannah
Great location with a parking spot.
It’s an older home that has three levels. This unit was middle level. No one stayed above us so that was quiet. Did hear people talking a few times but otherwise only road noise. (I stayed in the 3rd floor a few months ago and lots more road noise at that time with tours and horses late at night.)
This place was conveniently located and an easy walk in the middle area of what I consider downtown.l Savannah. Parking is sparse at times and this one comes with your own spot so you don’t have to buy a pass or feed the meters.
Situated between Forsyth Park and the Riverfront. We walked almost everywhere taking a different route each time so we could see more of the city.
There are some glasses and bowls, really didn’t look for any other type of cooking utensils and cookware since we ate out. Fridge, microwave, and washer/dryer in small kitchen. This unit did have a small dining table (upstairs unit did not) and also 2 non-working fireplaces.
It was cold this trip and my husband couldn’t seem to get warm with the high ceilings and wood floors...it is an old property. It was fine for me.
The owner was available with one parking issue and it was resolved quickly. No complaints really. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the downtown area. You will have to walk but it isn’t bad from here.
Also, there are several restaurants close by within walking distance that were delicious!
This spacious apartment is in a great location if you want to walk all over historic Savannah, which we did. Many wonderful restaurants, squares, sites....... are just minutes away. The coveted private parking spot provided a greatly appreciated place to hide the car for our four night stay. While clean, it lacked the TLC and pride of ownership that the name "Luxury" implies, inside and out. Simple items like bath soap and a single morning's serving of coffee have come to be expected and so it was disappointing to have neither.
Thank you for the confirmation of this incredible location. We are not implying this is a "luxury" apartment in any aspect other than location. Since that word is not in the name, description or title of the apartment on this ad we assume this guest is referring the name of our direct booking company website which is on the house information notebook etc however on our site we say we have a range of everything from the most basic economy units in downtown to the nicest luxury units in Savannah. The price can assist in identifying the more luxurious units, along with photos. And if in doubt just ask which units are more luxurious so we can guide you to one that suits you. Future guests may recognize that if they are paying less than half the price for this apartment compared to a room in the hotel that is directly behind this building they are getting the incredible location for a non-luxury price. This is an original genuine 150+ year old historic home. It has some updates like fairly contemporary kitchen equipment and it is decorated with TLC by the local owner who attends antique auctions every weekend as a beloved hobby. It is advertised and depicted as exactly what it is, a lovely authentic historic apartment without a slick modern remodel or the price to go with that. We do provide shampoo, conditioner and a wrapped bar of soap. We can only guess that since the soap is labeled "face soap" this guest felt bath soap was lacking but we think for most people the soap types are interchangeable and we also provide liquid hand soap as a bonus. There are 3 places to buy fresh hot coffee within less than 1 block of the front door and we provide a coffee maker for those who wish to brew their own coffee in the kitchen at the apartment. Hotel rooms will give free coffee for the extra 100+ dollars per night but we give a free parking spot instead of charging a garage or valet fee which is likely a bigger savings and more than makes up for buying a cup of coffee at one of the coffee shops. Now that the construction is completed this location is truly better than ever and we look forward to many future guests who recognize the bargain they are getting at this location. And a huge thanks for including that the apartment is clean, as it has a dedicated housekeeper who takes great pride in the cleaning of the this unit.
Large 1 bedroom and close to everything
Large 1 bedroom unit and close to everything. The place was clean, brand new refrigerator and quiet. The sheets were exceptionally soft. Great breakfast place around the corner called J Christophers. Thanks for a great stay!
