Provence - as it real as it gets

This really is a relaxing destination. Le Garde Freinet is a delightful and ancient village that you can so easily fall in love with. The village nestles between 2 hills right in the middle of the Foret des Maures where it feels that time has stood still for a thousand years. The road system is excellent (even off the beaten track) so you're never far from some beautiful beaches, Provencal markets and good restaurants that won't rip you off.

Take your walking boots for this one. There are some fine walks. Walk to the top of the hill (20 mins on a road which leads only to farms and private properties so virtually traffic free) behind this appartment and you can see the whole of the eastern half of Provence in one go.

We stayed in The 2 bed appartment. It's cool, its comfortable, well appointed, tastefully decorated and furnished in a refreshing and minimalist way. It's very spacious and has an absolutely wonderful view from the large and shady balcony (the photos on this website simply don't do it justice).

The pool is set amid gardens of trees and flowers of every kind and is both clean and quite safe for young families and is a delight after a hot day out. We went at the height of the holiday season and had the pool to ourselves in themorning and evening (it doesn't get busy because so many of the other appartments are owned rather than occupied by tourists). Bonus.

Parking is secure behind an electronic gate to which you have a remote control (cool, kids).

There is a lift to all floors but you have to negotiate a few steps to access the enclosed pool area.

While there is a bus service, we would recommend car hire if you are taking this property because a car is a must for exploring out of the way vineyards country restaurants.

If you like to make a lot of noise, don't stay here. This a place to chill, relax take it easy whatever your agegroup - you'll love it.

There are lots of nice places to stay in Provence but this one is a bit special. It's quiet, relaxing (except for the 2 church bells) which after a few nights didn't wake us up anymore) and views from its balcony which are simply very romantic and will melt the hearts of even the most diehard customers. This is a place you'll find yourself returning to again and again.

It's fitted and furnashed as a home for us not for rental purposes and thus it's great to know that our guests feal as we do.

Very nice flat with spectacular view

Assuming you already know the charming village of La Garde Freinet, this second floor flat is situated along the road leading up to the Cross (la Croix). Its spacious balcony offers a spectacular view over the village and beyond, over to the Plaine des Maures in the distance.

The sun rises directly in front of the balcony (+ living room and master bedroom), guaranteeing glorious early morning breakfasts. Inversely, that also means no direct sun from mid-morning onwards, which maintains indoors temperature to a pleasing level, even at the height of July.

The amenities are very good (broadband, wifi, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, cooker, linen, etc) and the flat is really nicely decorated. The owner is always helpful and responsive.

The flat's entrance, second bedroom and kitchen open to the back of the building, on an open air gallery running along the different flats, facing the swimming pool.

There is only one balcony (facing East). The pictures on this site show that same balcony from 2 different angles but with different furniture (it currently has a nice big table, 4 chairs and additional folding chairs), which confused me a bit when I booked.

The swimming pool is well kept and nice to have, but not necessarily a haven of peace and quiet, depending on the energy of the kids enjoying their time there (as they should).

The building overall is well kept as well, and all the other tenants were friendly. Of course, when all the tenants had apero and supper on their balconies at the same time, things could become a bit noisier than expected (but never overwhelming)...

The reserved parking space is a real blessing, and the village shops are just a 5 minute walk down the winding village streets.

For cyclists: there are no facilities to store/attach bicycles. We had to bring them up into the flat after each ride.

The only negative point, and the reason for 4 stars rather than 5, was the noise made by the garbage collection service: every morning between 05:30am and 06:00am, the garbage truck (or trucks) would work its way up the road, and deal the trash containers along the way in a very loud cacophony. There was also more noise than expected from cars trying to find their way into the village or competing for parking space. This made it impossible for us to sleep with the window open, and woke us up every day at dawn. Things to keep in mind when you book, depending on your appetite for calm. Highly recommended otherwise.

Excellent location,very comfortable apartment

We had a lovely 2 weeks staying in la garde freinet.The apartment had everything we needed to make our holiday complete .There is a lovely pool to use which we had a few days lazing around,also it was a peace of mind with having secured parking.

Happy Aussies

We stayed in the one bedroom apartment in this delightful village. The apartment was well located, a short, pleasant walk to the village shops in the mornings for our croissants and baguettes. The village market is superb for fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, etc. Plenty of restaurants and a very lively atmosphere in the village. The owners were extremely helpful and the apartment was very comfortable, with beautiful views from the balcony. The pool was clean and well maintained and very welcome at the end of a hard day's sightseeing in beautiful Provence in July. If we had the opportunity to return to this part of France, we would definitely stay in this apartment in La Garde Freinet. The Gorges du Verdon is a must.

Excellent place to stay

We would definitely recommend this property. The apartment is spacious and beautifully equipped and furnished to a very high standard. It felt like a home rather than a holiday let. We particularly enjoyed the large balcony with the fabulous views. We all also enjoyed the loungers and the pool which is unsupervised and deep at one end. The description probably does not do the property and location justice. La Garde Freinet is a gorgeous village with beautiful shops and plenty of restaurants, there is also a market twice a week. The centre of the village is a short walk from the apartment - very handy for your breakfast croissant and pain au chocolat! We enjoyed visiting Grimaud. Monaco and Port Grimaud, also took a boat trip to St Tropez

The owners were extremely helpful when a small domestic crisis developed at home, going out of their way to contact us regarding this.
