Come enjoy our rustic mountain cabin located on Cold Mountain. You can fish, hike and breathe the cleanest air in America.
The cabin overlooks a waterfall and a river where you can fish and enjoy a fast moving mountain river experience.
This is a truly unique property not to be missed.
Here you will find a truly unique mountain cabin strategically placed at the base of the historic and unforgettable Cold Mountain.
In addition to a private waterfall on Lodge property, and attendant hiking up Cold Mountain on the uphill side of the cabin, there is trout fishing on Lodge property along the Little East Fork river for use by guests. Our recent guest caught (and released) a 2.4 pound rainbow trout.
For auto touring, the lodge is perfectly located for easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway (11 miles) and Waynesville (14 miles).
At an elevation of 3,000 ft. this mountain lodge features 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and a large cathedral ceiling living and dining area. The Lodge is a rustic cabin built in 1977 and renovated in 2014. It features modern conveniences but is at its heart a rustic Western North Carolina cabin on one of the most famous mountains in the state.
This is a real North Carolina poplar wood cabin with electricity, gas, satellite internet-WIFI and telephone that is surrounded by a dense forest of trees and the sounds of a waterfall just outside below the 800 square foot deck. The evening air is cool, even in the summer and the milky way is clearly visible above on clear evenings from the deck. In the evening in the spring and summer you can see a the dozens of fire flies in the forest above the deck after a day of fishing for trout at the private footbridge on the river on Lodge property.
The living room adjoins the kitchen and features an open design with high ceilings. It is heated by a wood stove fitted into the fireplace. There is plenty of room for reading or enjoying the company of your friends and family. A set of double doors leads from the living area to a large deck that overlooks a green forest, Panther Branch Waterfall and beyond to the Little East Fork River. This is a large property with over 6 acres located between Panther Branch and the Little East Fork River. There is a footbridge that spans the Little east fork with a rough path (at your own risk) that rises to a lookout in a pavilion that looks over the property on fall days (not in summer-it's a forest of green then)
The waterfall is on the property and is located next to the lodge and is visible from the deck.
Cold Mountain Lodge is easily accessible from Little East Fork Road off of NC 215 12 miles from interstate 40 in Canton, NC and features a paved driveway that leads up to a paved parking area at the lodge. Up the wide staircase is the lodge and a deck that includes plenty of seating to take in the clean mountain air and the sound of Panther Branch creek and the nearby Little East Fork River. The deck includes an entrance to the living room and kitchen area of the house.
The Lodge is situated 14 miles from the town of Waynesville, NC with its unique art galleries, boutiques and coffee shops along with gourmet dining opportunities. There are many nearby tourist attractions in Maggie Valley.
Motorcyclists and hikers can use the lodge as a base for exploration of the hiking and motoring beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Cold Mountain offers wonderful hiking opportunities for those who want to explore the ample hiking on Cold Mountain. The gravel road behind the house is approximately two miles long and leads up to the 4,000 foot level of Cold Mountain. Cold Mountain also has numerous “logging roads” used in the 1900’s on the mountain that are fun to hike and which our guests have special permission to enjoy.
As mentioned above, you can also walk down from the lodge, cross the paved road, and continue on lodge property to the Little East Fork river.
Even closer to the lodge is beautiful waterfall visible from the deck. Just sit there and enjoy the view!
Panther Branch leads down to a river just across the paved road in front of the lodge called the Little East Fork River.
Little East Fork is a river that features incredible views of rocks, trees and mountainside and it’s fun to walk along the river in the wooded area below the lodge. We own the property across the Little East Fork River and you are absolutely allowed and invited to walk across the hard road and enjoy the wooded area along the Little East Fork River up to the pavilion for picnics or any other outdoor recreation. The river has cold water that creates a cool breeze even on the hottest summer day.
There are bicycles for guest use at the Lodge. If you turn left from the base of the driveway and bike upriver you will see excellent views of the mountains, farms and the river and after two miles arrive at the Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp which is the beginning of the Art Loeb Trail.
Serious bicyclists will love using the lodge as a base for exploring the numerous bike routes along Hwy 215 up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just get on your bike and ride!
