Blue Shutter Cottage at Bear Paw - Great Mountain Getaway!

BLUE SHUTTER COTTAGE is in the residential community of Bear Paw, a private gated community in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of southwestern North Carolina. The guard station at the only entrance is staffed 24/7, making this remote location quite welcoming and safe! Bear Paw is the only community located on HIWASSEE LAKE with a full-service MARINA. The lake is almost completely surrounded by protected PUBLIC LAND with great boating, fishing & hiking opportunities. At Bear Paw you get the best of both worlds: a quiet, beautiful, remote mountain setting with a family-friendly, community atmosphere!

The Blue Shutter Cottage is a cozy one bedroom, one bath cottage. It's just two cottages away from the pool and clubhouse...yet it is tucked back against the mountain to insure privacy. Even though it's a charming early 20th century structure that was part of the original Hiwassee Dam village, it's been modernized with central heat & air and appliances, including a small washer & dryer. Although the cottage doesn't have internet service (we don't have any reasonably-priced options), free WiFi is available 24/7 at the clubhouse that is within sight of the house. A land line telephone with free long distance in the continental U.S. is provided in the cottage!

The LIVING/DINING ROOM ... has a sleeper sofa, TV with ample satellite service and a DVD player, along with a dining table and chairs.

The KITCHEN ... has everything you need to prepare that special meal, including a refrigerator, stove & oven, crock pot, microwave, DISHWASHER, coffee maker, kitchen utensils, dishes, and pots & pans. A small washer & dryer are also provided for your convenience.

The large BEDROOM... has a KING SIZE BED... linens are provided, pillows, dresser and a spacious closet. The BATHROOM... includes a hair dryer & fluffy towels.

The SCREENED PORCH has rocking chairs to enjoy your morning coffee or tea, and the open DECK has a gas grill, along with a table and chairs to enjoy your meals and a view of the wooded hillside.

Come... enjoy the fresh mountain air. You will make memories that are priceless. We've tried to anticipate your every vacation need!

Quaint, quiet, and clean

This was a great option for us as we had family staying at another house in the subdivision. It gave us privacy from the rest. Cute little vintage home with a good mattress and necessities. I recomend this location.

Perfect Mountain Get Away!

Lovely cottage in a quiet gated community. Set away from the road nestled into the mountain. All the comforts of home. Comfortable bed and amazing water pressure. The owners were good communicators and made stay easy. We would definitely return!

The place was great. Walk to the bottom or top of the dam. Be ready for no WI-FI or cell service.

Philip & I first rented Blue Shutter Cottage as newlyweds in 2006. He had visited Bear Paw with his family as a child and I surprised him with a weekend getaway there! His mother lived at Bear Paw until she was in the 7th grade, as her father worked for TVA helping to build Hiwassee Dam. The village at Bear Paw was originally constructed as housing for the workers and their families because the area was not really settled back in the 1930s.

Philip is a Clay County, NC native, born and raised on a small working farm. I'm originally from Nashville, Tennessee. We both are employed by nonprofit conservation organizations that, in different ways, work to preserve quality of life for mountain residents. We are also avid hikers and general outdoor enthusiasts and would be happy to help point you toward trails in the area suited to your taste and ability!

We bought Blue Shutter because of its proximity to the lake (it's only 0.6 miles to Mountain View Marina), the availability of trails and outdoor activities nearby in both Cherokee (TN) and Nantahala (NC) National Forests, and the amenities at Bear Paw. It feels remote, but it's also a little community. We also like the historical aspect of it being the original Hiwassee Dam workers' village. Our cottage has been completely modernized, but it's still the charming original structure.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

It's quiet, but yet there is the wonderful pool, clubhouse with free wireless internet access, tennis court, basketball goals, and a playground for younger children all within easy walking distance of the cottage. The cottage is about 25 minutes of driving from Murphy, NC, and Copperhill, TN and within an hour of Blue Ridge and Blairsville, GA, Tellico Plains, TN, and Brasstown and Hayesville, NC. It's a great getaway spot in an area that is largely overlooked as a vacation destination!
