Lovely, quiet and perfect for cyclists

This little gray house in the woods is set about half mile via dirt road from a main road. The location is tranquil and exactly what we were looking for. We did not want to stay in the hustle and bustle of Edgartown but wanted to be close enough that we could drive in for a quick bite to eat. Having cows abutting the property was a plus. :)

The house can easily sleep 6 people but for this trip it was just me my husband and our dogs. Our goal was to spend two days cycling around the island. We found that the general location the house was perfect for cycling. We were able to hop on the main road, cycle around the island, join up onto bike paths and had a great time overall. Getting into the busier parts of Martha's Vineyard wasn't too bad from the house. Dinner in Edgartown one night and dinner at the closer State Road the second night.

We did not make much use of the kitchen but it was stocked with all the necessary components to cook a meal.

After such a great weekend, we are hoping to make this an annual trip. Thank you for the dog-friendly accommodations! Loved the house and location!!! Definitely would recommend to my friends!

Lovely Island Hideaway

A cozy, peaceful, hideaway with all the necessary amenities. Loved the backyard hammock! Did not anticipate having to pay for beach access but ended up going to the public beach at Memensha & also were able to use a private beach owned by friends. WiFi could have been better. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would highly recommend this property.

Renting this charming house was super easy with no unwelcomed surprises.

I rented this house with 5 friends while attending a wedding in Martha's Vineyard. The experience overall was perfect. Linda, the owner, was so sweet and a pleasure to deal with. Quick response time to any questions I had. She even went out her way to let us enter the house when we arrived earlier than expected. The house itself had everything you could need for the stay besides food of course. Plenty of privacy but not to the extent you feel like your in the middle of nowhere. Very clean and just what you would expect of a charming Martha's Vineyard home. Located not far from a general store where you can purchase any last minute personal needs and even food.

I would not hesitate in recommending this rental to any friends and family. My friends and I a wonderful weekend and great/easy rental experience overall.

What a wonderful experience!

Perfect cottage!

What luck to find this amazing Martha's Vineyard rental! Went in 2015 for one week to vacation and celebrate a birthday. Loved it and returned in 2016 for two weeks. Getting on the island was seamless as the car ferry ticket is arranged by the homeowner.

The Chilmark address allow access to gorgeous Lucy Vincent beach and is ideal spot to get around and enjoy the whole island. Close proximity to both Menemsha and Aquinnah beaches for breathtaking sunsets close enough to the property that we were able to catch both sunsets in one night.

The cottage is off the beaten path and provides plenty of privacy and tranquility. It was roomy enough for my family of three with a young child and could accommodate more as there is a master bedroom with queen size bed, bunk beds in another bedroom along with two double beds in the loft and the love seat in the living room converts to a double bed. Other accommodations included washer and dryer, plenty of towels and linens and full kitchen with everything you need to cook full meals. Great gas grill on the back deck where we cooked up great fresh veggies and meats from the local West Tisbury farmer's market and Alley's General Store.

Looking forward to booking again.

Comfortable home with an enviable Chilmark address, but proceed with caution

My family and I stayed here in Aug. 2016. Things that are great: It is quiet and bucolic; the back looks out onto a serene farm. It has a Chilmark address, which grants you access to beautiful Lucy Vincent Beach. A few watch-outs: This is a guesthouse, near the main home. While it has it's own driveway and entrance, it is a little weird to be in the shadow of the main home considering the rate paid (and I didn't know it was a guesthouse until we got there). And it's certainly comfortable, but is also pretty small. The Master fits a queen bed and a dresser - that's it. The 2nd bedroom is also cozy with bunkbeds. And the main living space is all condensed. Kitchen/livingroom/den all are kind of a common shared space. A little bit of privacy can be found upstairs in the loft - my teenage daughter made a bee-line to claim that :-) Finally, we unfortunately ran into a hiccup with the owner, per below: When we arrived, the first thing my wife said to me is "hey, I thought you said this place was supposed to come with beach towels." She was right, but I didn't want to bother the owner, so we made due with 4 small towels to shower for the week - luckily we had brought our own to use at the beach. Fast forward to a month after our stay. We had left an alarm clock in the loft. My wife had been asking me to try to get it back. So, I finally emailed the owner to ask if she could return it when possible (& please feel free to deduct the postage from our security deposit). She replied that there was no security deposit to return because towels and a beach bag were missing. I was SHOCKED to hear this, but assured her that we didn't have or see such items. Indeed: 1) Why would I email and ask for something to be returned (my clock) if we had stolen items? 2) Why would I pay a full rate for a home and then try to sneak out towels and a beach bag? 3) Why hadn't the owner emailed me earlier to say that these items were missing, so we could have addressed the issue straight away? Assuming the owner posts her version of the story (fair enough), it then becomes a case for the reader of the review to decide whom to believe. There's not much I can do about that especially since VRBO policy prevents me from leaving personal info. All I can do is state that my family has rented houses in MVY for 20 years and never had any problem with any of them. Forfeiting the deposit $ doesn't matter to me. But, I resent being labeled as a thief.

Resposta do proprietário: I have never had a single incident where I've had to take a guest's security deposit. I agreed to take only $150 security deposit, not $1,000. As an owner, I walked in shortly after the tenant left. Rotting food and garbage in the kitchen and living room (no trash had not been removed the entire week). Wet towels scattered all over the wood floors, filth and mess everywhere. An additional 6 hours of cleaning time required + visit from exterminator to treat for resulting ants. Unfortunately, this guest talked me into dropping the security deposit down from the standard $1000 to $150. In addition to the extra cleaning, all the new high-end beach towels were gone, coordinating beach bag as well as a set of luxury sheets and bedding to name a few items. This guest is upset because he was caught and is being held accountable for his actions. I shared with him my cleaners written document of the condition he left my home. My caretaker, the cleaners supervisor, is a police officer. Both have worked for me for years. The cost of the missing items alone is well in excess of the $150 security deposit, not to mention the extra cleaning and exterminating. This complaint contradicts his earlier note received praising my lovely home prior to my challenging him on the mess and missing items. Attached below is his note. Hi Linda, I meant to send you this email earlier, but somehow never pushed it out from my drafts folder, so apologies for the lateness. In any event, as I’m sure you know, you have a lovely home. My family and I enjoyed staying there very much. Finally, I’m not sure if you or others may have seen, but my daughter left her sound machine / alarm clock in the loft upstairs. If there is anyway that someone could mail/fedex etc. that to us at some point, I’d greatly appreciate it. Please feel free to deduct any costs to do so from the security deposit. Thanks very much again - Scott

So peaceful and relaxing - exactly what we needed!

My family and I stayed here in June 2015 and loved it. It looks exactly as the photos portray. The setting is secluded and peaceful, yet all beaches and restaurants are very close by. We had a wonderful time, and we loved coming "home" from our daily Vineyard adventures to this beautiful property. The deck and hammock out back overlooking a beautiful farm field was a lovely bonus. (Sidenote: Lucy Vincent beach is very close and incredibly gorgeous.) We have great memories of this visit and look forward to returning.
