The setting is perfect, mountains all around and a short walk to the local village where you can buy fresh, delicious croissants and bread each morning. Breakfast on the terrace, with the awning down for a bit of shade - heaven! The swimming pool is excellent, our 2 kids were very happy playing in it as long as possible and it was immaculately clean and well looked after. Francis was extremely helpful and on hand for any minor issues (thunderstorm on first night messing with the electrics in the whole village!). James was available by phone and email and extremely helpful and friendly during the entire booking process&stay. The villa is comfortable, well equipped, wifi, TV, comfortable beds. It ticked all the boxes for our family (age range 4yrs old to 74yrs old!). The area has something for everyone - beaches, museums, castles - we especially enjoyed taking the kids to Plan D'eau (lake near St Jean Pla De Corts) and a visit to Castlenou. What a wonderful holiday, something for every member of the family. Was very hard to leave and we WILL be back! Thank you James.

This was our second holiday and we have booked to go back next year. The property is clean, comfortable, very well equipped - the kitchen has everything in it you could ever need - there are English books to read - boules - scrabble - a dvd player and Wifi. We can't recommend it enough. The pool is warm and clean (we appreciate the cover), the sunny terrace lovely (awning appreciated, the sun gets so hot!). The owners are very friendly and helpful, and have emailed me throughout the year recommending places to visit. Francis, who looked after the pool, was friendly. St Thomas' and its spas were magical. Le Racou beach is lovely. Ceret and its market, Collioure - lots of places. Llauro is itself a very pretty village with a shop which we found very useful. Cannot recommend it enough and we are going back next year (and probably the year afterwards!) Thank you for letting us stay again! Ginny and Richard, Warwickshire
This was a stab in the dark for us. Both a new region of France as well as a new home to rent. After an expensive yet amazing trip to provence last year we decided to try the slightly more affordable region of Longduc Rousillon. Villa Margueritte was a wonderful place to base ourselves. It's situated between Ceret and Thuir. And there are many exceptional places to explore most well within a 30 minute drive. Ville-Franche de Conflent, Colliure (sea&beach) Eus, Castlenou, even Spain and San Pere de Rhodes is not too far. Once we even stretched it and drove an hour to Carcasonne. So much to see. Great area. Ceret is 10 minutes away and has everything including the not to be missed saturday market. Fourques is 10 minutes in the other direction and there is a wonderful bakery and chacurterie (sp) there. The house itself is warm and inviting. It's fully stocked and very easy to cook your own meals or sit by the pool and enjoy a glass of Rose while watching the kids play. The grounds are beautiful and the view is wonderful and peaceful with the Sea in the distance. The town of Llauro is certainly small but very pretty. There is a small general store and a very good new restaurant/pub (great pizza) and beautiful old church. Honestly the town could use a few more attractions but it really is pretty. The house is about a 5 minute walk down the road. The owners James and Vincent were wonderful hosts and very helpful ambassadors of the area. We took them up on most of their suggestions and were glad we did. The place has the feel that it's well loved but not precious which is perfect for people traveling with kids. There is a very nice terrace just off the kitchen that is perfect for meals. If we ever find our way back to this wonderful region of France, and we certainly hope that we do sooner than later, we will certainly use this lovely old country cottage as our home away from home again. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and would highly recommend it.
We stayed with our four children age 14 to 6 for a fortnight. The villa was the best equipped we have ever had, the pool was lovely, the views were magnificent (especially at dusk). The villa is a short walk from a lovely village shop, open every morning except Wednesday. The owners were very helpful, emailing us photos and advice for days out etc over the six month period between booking and staying. Although it is by a road, the main traffic was cyclists! Our six year old loved it and called out BONJOUR BRADLEY WIGGINS to each one! We were devastated to discovered it is booked next August so are booking for two years' time - that's how much we liked it! Can't recommend it highly enough - the villa, the pool, the views, and the village. Ginny and Richard Marsh, Warwickshire
We have been here for 2 years and this year we go again. It is a wonderful place and now with the pool it is really fantastic. We were here in july/august and here we find the peace that we are closer to the coast was not found.
James and Vincent are really the two sweetest people I ever met. Nothing is too much an their hospitality is huge.
We'll go this summer for the third year and already know that we come back to fourth.
The area is also very worthwhile. We are very impressed. The house is really well equipped.
Could go but do not tell because otherwise too busy there in the beautiful Llauro
Oh yeah my english is not good so it may be that there are many flaws in it. But most importantly .... everything is wonderful.
During the summer of 2010 we had the pleasure to meet James Mullen and visit his house in Llauro. There were three great weeks of beautiful weather and lots of memorable moments. The house, Villa Marguerite, is a high standard house with everything you could ask for and more. The house is charming and tastefully decorated. James proved to be an exceptional, friendly and very helpful houseowner.
During spring 2010, James completed a pool in the garden and we were the first to take note of this. The view from the pool out to the mountain scenery is held in memory and baths in the pool was something that our children will be talking about for years to come.
Llauro is a beautiful village, located high up with beautiful views. There is no greater range of activities. It is quiet and tranquil with opportunities for walking in a beautiful landscape. It is likely that cycling in this area something special for those who appreciate such. Access to car is almost a must. By car there are endless opportunities to experience both nature, culture, beach and city life. Ceret, the larger town nearby, is charming with a beautiful downtown, museums and more shops.Perpignan is a beautiful city, a short drive away and Spain with Barcelona is near.Transportation by train and bus from Perpignan there. The possibilities for discovery are so many and varied and extensive that the number of vacation days probably is not enough!
It is worth pointing out: Access to car is essential. Llauro is quiet and nothing for those looking for pulse and nightlife. The sea and beach is 40 minutes away so this is not an option for those who want to quickly get down to the beach. The house is perhaps best suited for those seeking peace and with interest hikes and to take part in cultural activities in the surrounding area. Here is a great opportunity for relaxation.
