Close by are 100's of miles of mountain trails for hiking, lake fishing, fly fishing, small game and big game hunting - both bow and rifle, bird watching and numerous scenic vistas for photo and other artistic opportunities. The town of Choteau offers a museum, antiques shop, heated community swimming pool, a theater, golf, bowling (not open for a quarter of the year, during summer), A small museum of the area's history, restaurants and eateries. A small town 10 miles north of Choteau, named Bynum, offers a dinosaur museum and a very reasonably priced rock shop with many unique finds. If you are a rodeo fan, periodically, there are rodeos held at the Choteau Fair Grounds. A fiddler's contest in the summer and an art auction in the fall. The Choteau Visitor's Center has numerous brochures and information. The U.S. Forest Service also has a building in town, where anyone can gather maps and information on what to do and where to go in the mountains and for hunting and fishing regulations. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is advisable in the late fall, for snow.
