Issue with lock code
The apartment was fine - very simple, but clean - and a great price and location.
But, there were access/security issues. First, the access instructions were unclear. It did not say which unit (there are several in this building). It is Unit 3, but we only discovered that after trying to get into Unit 2 and waking the man who lived there. Second the access code/panel was problematic. The access code worked fine the first time - the code panel turned green and we went in. But there is no key for the apartment, and we did not see any instructions on what to do when we left. So, when we went out later that evening, we used the same access code and the door seemed to lock (it was clear that you should not lock the lower knob, because there is no key for it.) When we returned, around midnight, the access code did not work. We tried it at least a dozen times. Each time, the code panel stayed red. I called the owner, twice, and texted him. After about 15 minutes waiting in the hallway for him to return my message, we called HomeAway. We spent about 30 minutes on the phone with a representative. He was very nice and sympathetic, but said there was nothing HomeAway could to, since we had already gained access the first time. It was up to us to either reach the owner, or call a locksmith/get a hotel and then try to get reimbursed from the owner. After that, we decided to try the code one more time. The access panel stayed red, but we pushed hard and it opened. It was now about 1:30 a.m., and we were very glad to be back inside. Two disappointing things: that HomeAway does not have a procedure in place to help stranded travelers. It would be much better if HomeAway would play for hotel, and then get reimbursed from the property owner - instead of the traveler having to do it, especially in the middle of the night. Then, HomeAway could decide whether to keep working with this property owner. Second, we were disappointed that the owner did not call us back or text to find out if we were okay. I am sure he realized the next day that we were gone, but it would have been a nice gesture to check on us. Needless to say, we left the door unlocked upon departure.
Simple - Just what I was looking for
Robert's place is centrally located, with short walks to the convention center as well as to nightlife. It is close to a little 'German village' which is pretty neat. It is also close to Riverfront (Reds) and Paul Brown (Bengals) stadiums so offers an inexpensive place for a weekend sports trip. I came in to attend a conference at the convention center and found it very convenient. I usually prefer to stay in neighborhoods to take in some culture rather than homogeneous hotels (of which there are nice ones if that's your bag). The night I came in there was an Art walk (Thursday night) in the neighborhood - pretty neat and a chance to interact with some local artists. There are several restaurants and bars along the route to and from the convention center. I ate a little place called Pepe's when I arrived - excellent food and drink - very highly recommended.
The studio is no-frills but has everything you'll need. There is a small drip coffee-maker and a small kitchen if needed; no microwave or tv. There is window-unit A/C which was plenty good to keep the space cool during my late summer visit. If you're the kind of traveler that doesn't need (or want to pay) for bells/whistles that you won't use anyway, Robert's place is a great choice.
Cute place
The place was cute. Loft was unusable in the summer and the owners moved the mattress to the floor by the couch. It was fine for us. Listing states it sleeps four, but I don't see how unless three are in the bed together.
The kitchen was a little dirty (both oven and fridge were full of crumbs and leftover food, but we didn't cook so it didn't bother us too much. Bathroom sink faucet dripped and kept me up part of the night since I'm a very light sleeper.
The owner replied to most of my messages immediately and check-in was very simple. I messaged again asking for Wifi login info (listing says it is located on the back of the modem, but it wasn't) and he never responded. We ended up not being able to use the internet at all which was frustrating since Wifi was one of the reasons we chose this location.
All in all, it was a nice little place. If the internet issue was fixed we would stay there again. Very cute neighborhood to walk in the morning.
Great spot
Nice neighbors
I paid for this rental and never even got in the door!
After the payment was received by the owner, I received an email with the address. Upon arrival, the address given ended up having 8 separate units. Not knowing which unit we paid for, we tried contacting the owner, but got no response, not even the following day.
Very disappointed with this entire situation. I am forced to give one star, otherwise I cannot comment at all.
Neat area.
Loft space is not usable in the summer. To warm up top. Place is better off for just two. Parking can be a bit of an issue. That being said I would stay here again. Location to every thing is amazing. Lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. Close to Cincinnati.
