We stayed in Gabriella's lovely home for 10 nights, getting to know Lucca from this fantastic hub. The location is perfect, on a quiet street close to everything including a grocery store, butcher, bar (cafe) and many restaurants. Gabriella is an excellent host, very responsive and helpful.
The best thing about our stay was the terrace. We spent mornings drinking coffee watching the city awake and the evenings basking in incredible sunsets. It's truly special.
The second best thing was the kitchen. We were able to cook in many nights and I loved it. The kitchen is very well appointed and old-worldly.
The house was clean and well-maintained. The pictures don't actually do it justice. I've stayed in many rental properties and some of them feel very staged. Gabriella's house is far more personal and charming. The upstairs area is like its own little apartment, making it a perfect place for 2 couples traveling together. The windows are huge and the furnishings are comfortable.
We rented a car but really, you don't need one. Many destinations are easily (if not easier) reached by train. We drove to Barga for a lovely day excursion and stopped at a winery recommended by Gabriella on the way back. She has great restaurant recommendations. It's also very easy to spend your entire day just hanging out in Lucca, walking the wall, shopping, etc.
A few house tips: the stairs are many, including the ones up to the house and inside the house. It wasn't a negative for us, just something to be aware of. Also, read up on italian washing machines, it's easy to google. Gabriella has written instructions but it was helpful to us to know a bit more.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to a friend and hope to return soon myself.
We had a wonderful 2 week visit in Lucca staying at this incredible two storey plus rooftop balcony apartment. It is very well appointed and well kept with a everything you need in the kitchen and modern bathrooms . The owner is lovely and was very accommodating and helpful during our stay. Almost every evening we had our wine on the rooftop terrace which overlooks the city.
Lucca is very well located to do day trips and we did a few although we enjoyed sightseeing in Lucca itself: circumnavigating the 4 km wall, museums, concerts, shopping, and a visit to a local vineyard.
The flat is on the 3rd and 4th floor (therefore the rooftop terrace) so be prepared for that.
We highly recommend this place to stay.
We stayed at Gabriella's apartment in the heart of Lucca for 1 week and count't have had a better time. We are a family of five and there was ample space for us to live comfortably with 3 modern bathrooms plus a wonderful kitchen. It is located just off the beautiful Piazza dell' Anfiteatro and the spacious private roof terrace was the highlight of the stay- many meals spent overlooking the city. Gabriella was a gracious host and helpful with any questions we had. We've stayed in various apartments in Italy and could not recommend this more.
I stayed in this lovely apartment in Lucca for a week with 5 other adult family members and enjoyed everything it had to offer. We cooked many meals in the well equipped kitchen, had great laundry space, and a deck that was breathtaking.
It is in the walls of Lucca and has easy access to the whole walled town.
We happened to be there when the spring music festival was going on and we were able to enjoy it both from restaurants in the plaza and from our rooftop deck.
Lucca is definitely on my lists of towns to visit again and this is the place that is on the top of my list to rent again.
This lovely apartment was in a perfect location in Lucca. Lucca is a small town (inside the walls) allowing you to stay without a car. The apartment is centrally located and the views from the rooftop terrace are amazing. We used the large nicely equipped kitchen every day, cooking wonderful Italian dinners or just quick breakfast before heading out for the day. It was easy to go back to the apartment off and on during the day and rest or eat.
The layout allows for a good sized group to spread out and enjoy some privacy or a big family to each have a space of their own. The bathrooms are all very nice.
Gabriella was helpful with our luggage and getting us settled in and kept in touch throughout our stay helping us with any needs that came up.
We were a group of two couples and two singles and there was ample room for everyone as well as a nice comfortable common area and of course the roof top terraces for enjoying the view, dining or sunbathing.
We would all love to visit Lucca again and stay in this nice apartment, and would recommend it highly to anyone traveling to this lovely city.
My family and I recently stayed at this apartment for one week. We were 4 adults and 3 children (ages 7, 5 and a baby). This was an ideal apartment for us, and I would highly recommend it for a small group. There is plenty of space and the bedroom/bathroom arrangements allow for everyone to have some privacy.
The apartment was very clean, true to the pictures and description, and was equipped with anything you might need for your stay. The kitchen and bathrooms were especially nice, and the terraces and views were great. My children were so excited to discover and play with all of the toys upstairs.
Gabriella, the owner, was always responsive (when emailing about booking the apartment, as well as during our stay), as well as friendly and helpful. For example, we were not able to use the parking space on the day of our arrival, so she personally brought our suitcases from our car to the apartment, helped us carry them in, and ensured that the parking issue was taken care of.
The location of this apartment is also ideal, literally only steps from the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro. Although the apartment kitchen was nice, we only used it for cooking breakfast since there were so many restaurants nearby. Inside the walls, Lucca is not very big, so we were able to walk everywhere. From Lucca we took the train to Florence and drove to Siena and the Cinque Terre.
The only potential negative thing about this apartment is that there are many stairs. I believe there were 3 flights of stairs to reach the apartment, and then there are more stairs to access the terraces. This was not a problem, but I just think potential guests should be aware of all the stairs.
Overall, this was a great apartment. My family and I had a lovely holiday in Italy, and staying at this apartment in Lucca made it even better. I would highly recommend it!
