misrepresented
The low rating for this property is due a misrepresentation of an important feature, and the failure of the owner to remedy the situation after the fact. We booked this home specifically because it advertised air-conditioning, which is needed for a family member who suffers from a chronic bronchial condition. Because we found this amenity vague with many years of renting (some homes have one window unit, some have central air), I contacted the Owner and asked specifically about the air conditioning. The response “The house has central air, and would be quite comfortable for your in-laws. Please let me know if you have any other questions.” However, the house DOES NOT HAVE central air conditioning- or even window units. This caused our family member a great deal of discomfort and cut their visit short as we were there during a very hot and humid week. When we returned home, we emailed the person who posted the listing and who we had previously corresponded with (the listed Owner on VRBO is the daughter in-law of the owner- not the actual Owner). She was apologetic, claimed she didn’t know it didn’t have air conditioning because it’s a family house and not her own, and said she would get back to us about a partial refund. Then, we never heard anything again, which is extremely disappointing considering the actual misrepresentation when I was explicit in my inquiry. (She has since updated the property description so it does not list a/c)
It's really unfortunate, because the house itself is lovely- spacious, nicely decorated, fairly new, and has a beautiful spot on a quiet lake with easy access to the water from the property. But it was the availability of air conditioning that drove us to select this home over others in the area, so ultimately we felt we were deceived and overpaid for the experience.
