A perfect home to congregate for a milestone birthday. Elegant yet not fussy, in a beautiful locale. After a week of busy traveling through Europe with our young children, we met up with other family at this home for a week of relaxed sightseeing. Right next to the spectacular Burren with its running and hiking trails and unique geology and ecology, and a stone's throw from history galore. We hired the caterer affiliated with the place for a few special formal dinners, and otherwise enjoyed the kitchen/family room. Lovely bedrooms, property, etc. The local pubs had great music and of course, the Irish are as hospitable and warm as reputed. The property managers, an Irish historic preservation nonprofit, manage properties of all sizes throughout Ireland, including 1 and 2 bedroom lighthouses, gatekeepers cottages, etc., that from the brochures look amazing.
Every once in a while you get the happy chance to have your whole family under one roof to celebrate. My family and I celebrated our Dad's 70th birthday in this most wonderfully warm and welcoming house. We will treasure our stay forever. Inchiquin House was so beautifully prepared. On arrival we were greeted by a beautiful welcome basket generously full of goodies. Our family ranged in age from 1 to 70 and every need was covered from beautiful baby bedding to amazing books and facts for our older family to read in front of the open fire. We will definitely return!
My family had a wonderful week at Inchiquin House. Our 2 families with kids aged 1, 2, 4, and 6 felt so at home! The huge kitchen was great for meals even with all of us attending, and the grounds are like a dream. I have never seen so many stars in my life! Beyond the rear field there is even an ancient mossy forest to explore. The house layout worked well, so each family had their own "wing" but also with many shared spaces. We had a fire most nights, and loved exploring the Burren area during the day. We went on a chocolate hike with Hazel Mountain Chocolates (the best kind of hike really), kayaking on Lake Inchiquin, mountain biking in the Burren National Park, had a day in Galway, wandered through Coole Park, explored ruins, and relaxed at Inchiquin House. It was a trip to remember.
A really lovely home: the renovation kept the historic country charm, but updated kitchen and bathrooms with top-drawer amenities. Our group of 10 stayed for a week and never felt crowded. Our property manager was responsive, helpful, and friendly. The vegetable garden was a particular treat, since our group likes to cook.
I had been a little concerned that we might be "in the middle of nowhere" but nearby Corofin (~2km) is well stocked with groceries, pubs etc. There's plenty to do nearby, such as Burren walks, ancient ruins, live music in Kilfenora. We comfortably did a day trip to Galway City. Even just walking the property grounds is lovely.
My only caveat is that internet access is somewhat slow/spotty, so if you need to work while there, that might be an issue. As a relaxing, restorative vacation spot though, it's really priceless.

I had an absolutely fantastic weekend break at Inchiquin House with a group of friends in November 2010, and can't wait to go back.
The house is stunning, and the attention to detail in the restoration process is evident everywhere, from the antique grandfather clock in the hall, to the grand dining room, to the luxurious drawing room. Each bedroom has it's own individuality, and is comfortably and tastefully decorated without compromising authenticity. The kitchen is the ultimate in modern functionality, and the meal prepared there by the chef for us was absolutely delicious.
A stroll around the grounds has something for everyone - the children's playroom is a special treat. With The Burren on the doorstep, and charming Corofin nearby, the location cannot be faulted. My only regret is that I didn't have more time at Inchiquin House - a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
