A piece of paradise

We came here to mark Pat´s sixtieth birthday (and semi-retirement from teaching) with our three "children" (and eventually two of their partners). And our week here has been everything that we dreamed it might be. We were enchanted by the villa from the moment we saw it and have felt privileged to spend time here.

We have loved everything about it: leisurely breakfasts on the back terrace; lunch at the table down below (which felt like a scene from a movie rather than from our own lives given the extraordinary location); reading in different spots according to the sun; listening to our son playing Debussy; late dinners Spanish-style followed by board games. We were fascinated by your 'library' – so many points of similarity with our own bookshelves at home yet so much to explore (we set aside the books we brought and read some of yours instead!)

We did make an excursion of some sort every day. The trip to Cala Tuent was amazing, though our friend whose enthusiasm for this region prompted us to come will be disappointed that we drove there on the hair-raising hairpins rather than walking over the top. The shorter walks we did do were still memorable, not least for the astonishing bougainvillea around every corner - around Fornalutx and Biniaraix, from Deia down to its cove - though we never found the direct path to Port de Soller mentioned in a previous review by Ben and Sarah (maybe next time!).

P.S. Literally as I was writing in here on our last evening Pat found the path, which we had assumed was a road to someone else´s house - so our last walk will be from here to Soller, with the car and bags going on ahead!

In need of maintenance

The location of the property is indeed beautiful however the house was in need of maintenance and the owner did nothing to rectify problems and instead argued with us. The problems encountered were:

The main bedroom roof was leaking badly and directly onto a light fitting below. By the heavy staining on the ceiling and the lampshade it had obviously been doing this sometime. When we took this up with the owner she said she would get the local caretaker to look into this. He never showed up.

Bathroom towel rail hanging off wall and the loo seat was broken.

Curtain poles in bedroom and one in the living room were hanging from the wall.

The burglar alarm only worked occasionally. Even the lady who let us into the house had problems working this.

Finally the memory foam mattress in the main bedroom was worn out and very uncomfortable. We took this up with the owner whose response was no one had complained about it before so there couldn't be a problem. She said her caretaker would come and take a look. He didn't show up again! In fact he didn't even show up when we were due to vacate the property, despite having contacting him.

In short the property badly needs some attention and the mattresses in both the main bedroom and the double bedroom downstairs need to be replaced. It is not acceptable to provide grotty mattresses in a holiday rental at this price. The owner also needs to listen to her guests and not argue with them!

Resposta do proprietário:   We are very surprised to find this review posted. We were in contact with this guest throughout her stay via email and looking back over the correspondence, are reassured that we responded to all her requests in our usual friendly, cordial and respectful manner, doing everything we could to alleviate her discomfort. There was no arguing or negligence. I have written to this guest since kindly asking her to rethink her hurtful accusations but have heard nothing back.   We are proud and conscientious owners. We tried our best to address the problems this guest encountered and find solutions from a distance. Unfortunately, the guest did not respond to my follow up email asking if she was finding the mattress more comfortable, so we had no way of knowing if she was still experiencing discomfort. We had a continuous stream of guests until the end of December, and no one has complained about the bed, either before this guest or since. It is a high quality, expensive, super king sized one that was bought only 4 years ago. I recently found it extremely comfortable to sleep on.   The roof leak was quickly rectified the day after this guest alerted us to it. We contacted our builder who repaired it immediately. This guest must have been away from the house at the time and we heard nothing from her afterwards to suggest that the work was not completed properly. I think anyone would agree that an owner would want to repair such a thing as soon as possible, not least for the good of the house itself. The alarm worked perfectly when we stayed there recently, so we are at a loss as to what the problem is in that regard. This was also never mentioned to us during their stay. Nor were the other details mentioned.   I agree it is a great shame that the caretaker could not be trusted to show up and do his job when requested. I did not know that he never turned up in this case, but we have replaced him for similar reasons since then. We have a new team who have completely overhauled the house and garden with new paint job, etc, and has rectified other details such as stated in this review. The downstairs double bed has also been replaced.

Beautiful peaceful casa

We have been lucky enough to stay at this property a few times over the last 5 years. We love the area for walking and exploring this quieter piece of Mallorca. The views are amazing. The 30 minutes walk down the valley through ancient olive groves and orange and lemon plantations is fabulous to arrive in the port or the village. We like also to take a sailing trip to Foradada for an amazing paella lunch at this secluded cliff restaurant. The casa is beautiful and it's lovely to stay in a solar powered house feeling we are doing our bit for the planet. The house has everything you will need, including a grand piano!! The pool is also a welcome place to cool down in the afternoon heat.

All in all our favourite place to stay in the area, we have already booked again to stay later in the year. Well done Claire and Ian...Don't change a thing!!!

Idyllic escape into paradise

This gorgeous cottage nestled in the most picturesque valley between the mountains and the sea is the perfect escape into peace and quiet and tranquility. I stayed here with my family for a week in March (the weather was hot!) and we had everything we needed and more. The house is cosy while the views from the living room and master bedroom are magnificent. We were well taken care of and even given a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, wine, jam, etc. The pictures don´t do this house justice! We could relax and read to our hearts content, with nature all around us. And we went on many excursions to the surrounding towns and villages, as well as walks into the mountains and valley. This house is perfectly situated so that while close to everything, we still felt a world away. Our children loved exploring the olive terraces belonging to the house, while we enjoyed soaking up the sun on the terrace. We hope to return again next year!

Beautiful home in a beautiful setting

We stayed at this peaceful cottage near Sóller and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were a group of 6 -- 4 adults and two children. The view of the mountains was spectacular and the terraces were great. We ate many meals al fresco and also enjoyed using the grill. The kids really enjoyed the splash pool. The house is a short drive from Sóller, the port, the beach, and Deia. We also enjoyed using the trail near the house and walked into town a few times. The kitchen has almost everything you need, especially for a rental home. The living room, bedrooms and bathrooms were good-sized and had everything you'd need in each room. There is wifi here, which was very handy. The solar power and generator worked very well. I like the eco-friendliness of the house. Claire and her local contact were both gracious and helpful. I highly recommend this house. It was the perfect get away for my family and my friend's family.

The most beautiful house we ever stayed!

We spent two weeks in May/June 2012 there with our children (6/8). This unique house became our home direct we open the door! The interior ist more than beautiful and all was well tended. The different views from the 3 teraces are impressively. The house is located very silent however ideal for trips to Soller, Port de Soller or Deia. Our conclusion: the most beautiful house which we ever joined with the most beautiful an kindly landlady. Thank you very much, Claire!
