We have been staying at Chalet Maia since 2012 and enjoyed many weeks there with friends and family. I even went twice in one year. We had requested two weeks this year but could only get one so moved to Samoens for the second.
As had been the case in the past we had asked if we could gain early access to get the kids ready for the day and leave luggage. This was met with resistance this year but was allowed in the end. We arrived and met the cleaner who said use the boot room and the chalet would be ready by 13:00. The outgoing guests had left their luggage and would be along to collect it when their transfer arrived - all good so far but no hamper or proper handover as was usually the case.
Once all there we could not get any hot water, we were also missing tea towels & some bedding. Again not a problem. The following morning the manager came and explained the hot water is playing up and to use the circuit breaker to force the water on. There was also only one key this year which made the evening tricky as when you were in with kids and others out you had to either lock yourselves in meaning emergency escape would be tricky or leave the door unlocked on the ground floor while you were on the second floor asleep.
The fire alarm was also displaying fault when in previous years instructions were present and you had a bit of a tutorial.
All small niggles but the week was good although the hot water caught us out more than once. We prepared to leave as per normal. My family left early to avoid traffic and left three adults and a baby in the chalet awaiting the cleaners.
They arrived at 10:10 and my friends asked if they could leave the luggage until the transfer- the cleaners said yes of course use the boot room as they will clean that last. They went into town returning at 12:10 to get their transfer. They bid farewell to the cleaners (still cleaning) and that was that.
Then came the email. We had apparently kept the cleaners back because we left late and lost the only key. Naturally I checked with friends and emailed back disputing these claims and mentioned the issues.
I received a response stating the contract says there is enough so there is. I was told they had deliberately disabled the fire alarm because of its sensitivity to the sauna and the fire (not an issue previously) and it was OK as it was "not required”!! Wow. The key issue was ignored but I was told there is only one key as people lose them & I can always stay up to let oth
Booking, Contact and response during our stay were excellent and supporting. There is enough space to enjoy a family and friends vacation. Kitchen is well equipped to be able to cook for a lot of people and everything else was as described. You do not need a car to get around, its easy and convenient to use the ski bus.
We will definitely come again.
Really good and friendly organisation while booking. arrival and stay. really nice and comfortable chalet. not in central of morzine but not far away. nice beds showers and kitchen. also with gaming room and sauna for bad rainy days. tons of games and dvd's. all my friends and me would prefer that chalet again for holidays in morzine. thanks for the stay.
We had a fantastic stay in this gorgeous chalet in Morzine!
There was more than ample space for the 10 of us and nearly a bathroom each (4 en-suite double bedrooms on the top floor and an en-suite 4-bed bunk room on the ground floor, where there was also a separate toilet and shower room next to the SAUNA!) We LOVED the sauna - such a nice way to relax and warm up after a hard days skiing. Also on the ground floor was the ski and boot room (we recommend the ski delivery service) and a games room which we never really got around to using but would be perfect for kids.
The middle floor was where we spent most of our time cooking in the very well equipped kitchen (huge oven with 6 ring stove, big pots and pans, raclette machine, coffee machine, toaster, laundry room with american-style fridge...), big dining table and lounge area (LOG FIRE, tv with surround sound, xbox, more dvds and books than Amazon, GOOD WI-FI connection). It was too chilly for us to use the balcony and BBQ but I imagine it would be fab on a summer night.
Half of us drove to the chalet from around France (there was off-road parking for 2-3 cars) and the rest took a shuttle bus from Geneva airport). There were no problems finding Chalet Maia and access was quite easy (important if there is snow and ice on the road). As we had a car we were able to collect all of our shopping from a Hypermarket (SuperU Tangines, 20mins by car) but there were lots of smaller mini-marts in town. You could also walk to the town centre in ~25mins (in shoes not ski-boots!) to take advantage of the après-ski!
For skiing, we mainly took the bus to the Super Morzine Lift (about 10mins) to get to Avoriaz. The bus is pretty regular and because the chalet is fairly early on the line you almost always get a seat. To get to the Pleney lift takes 5mins more and is where you find the majority of the bars/restos/shops too. A car is completely unnecessary unless you are looking for an obscure offpiste/ski-rando route.
It was very straightforward to book Chalet Maia and all of my emails were responded to quickly (we actually met Nick and Jenny as we were leaving and they were lovely!)
If you are a big family or group of friends you should definitely book Chalet Maia for your next stay in Morzine!
The chalet is very well situated in a calm area in Morzine. The shuttle to the slopes is 50 meters away, which makes all moves very easy.
We were 12 persons with 6 kids for 3 to 12 years old and were very happy with the excellent comfort in the chalet. Each Bedroom has a nice bathroom and the beds are of perfect Quality.
The living Area is nice and well decorated and the kitchen is with everything you need for a group of 12 persons.
We will recommand Chalet Maia without a doubt for anyone who wants to spend great holidays in Morzine.
