Ideal location, excellent accomodation

  • 5 de 5

The accomodation is roomy and instantly feels like home. The hosts warm welcome and information they provided on the local area added to the pleasure of our 10 night stay.

The facilities within the accomodation are more then adequate, plentiful kitchen utensils, cutlery and china, including a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The sitting area is very roomy and the outside patio has stunning views over the Tuscan countryside.

The village although small has a great restaurant, an Etruscan museum and the occasional special event.

The location is perfect for exploring the many nearby hill towns.

If you have a wish to enjoy the Tuscan life style in a wonderful environment then Il Pozzo in Murlo is well worth considering.

Great stay!

  • 4 de 5

From our warm welcome, tour of our apartment, to the starter groceries purchased for us by Sarah, we were immediately off to a great and easy start upon our arrival. The apartment was very clean and most comfortable. It was a perfect spot for discovering many of the hill towns. We enjoyed meals at the trattoria in Murlo ,the friendly inhabitants of the village and the fine Etruscan Museum. The villages of Vescovado and Buonconvento were close by and easy to reach. Add great weather, flowers in bloom and the unending beautiful scenery and one could not ask for more. Having total access to wi fi was an unexpected convenient bonus. We highly recommend.Il Pozzo.

A Superb Home In The Heart of Tuscany

  • 5 de 5

My wife and I spent three weeks here in September 2015. We wholeheartedly recommend this property for anyone who desires a spacious, well-equipped home in a quiet little medieval village.

The hospitality, generosity, helpfulness and kindness of our hosts, Sarah and Camillo, were second to none! While planning our trip, Sarah was very helpful in answering our questions and (as it turned out) accurately representing the property. Upon arrival, she provided a very detailed (and welcome!) orientation and walk-through, maps showing recommended places to visit, advice for getting around the area (several roads had washed out in a recent storm), and a lovely welcoming gift of local wine, honey, and olive oil. During our stay, Sarah and Camillo shared several evenings with us, in their home next door and also in nearby Buonconvento — a real treat!

WiFi is available (through Sarah and Camillo’s internet service), although we found the signal too weak for practical use except in the southwest corner of the living room. We dubbed the chair in this corner as the “Internet Chair”.

Be sure to visit Murlo's Il Libridinoso restaurant. Donatella and Marisa are very gracious hosts and serve wonderful food. Our final dinner there, two nights before our departure, was something special! As for other restaurants, groceries, shops, and other services, you will have to travel to Vescovado (<1 km away), Buonconvento (11 km), or Monteroni (11 km).

If you do choose to stay here in Murlo, we would recommend having a car to facilitate your travels around the region. There is bus service to Murlo, but you would be at the mercy of their schedules. Murlo is a fantastic little hamlet, but you can see it all in a few hours (including the wonderful Etruscan museum and the rustic Chiesa Di San Fortunato, where we attended mass on two of the Sundays). You will undoubtedly want to venture out… There are lots of options for walks or day hikes around Murlo (Vescovado is about a 20 minute walk away) - Sarah can offer several possibilities. The charming town of Buonconvento is a 15-20 minute drive away (be sure to have a meal at Ristorante da Mario — fabulous!) and Siena itself is less than 45 minutes away by car. Over our three weeks we explored as far south as Pitigliano, west to the Tyrrhenian Sea (Populonia), north to Florence, and east to Montepulciano; each less than two hours’ drive away from Murlo. This was a perfect central location for our Tuscan adventures.

Charming house in a small medieval Tuscan town

  • 5 de 5

The place is everything it promises. We enjoyed the quiet little town, the beautiful views from the house, the terrace and the surrounding hills. The hosts, who live next door are helpful and knowledgable about the opportunities in the area. Ideal place to relax and slow down. Right in the middle of Tuscany with lots of interesting medieval towns that produce some of the most famous Italian wines. Can recommend it warmly and we will if the opportunity arises definitely revisit.

A villa situated in the walls of an old castle

  • 5 de 5

This was an unusual vacation destination. It gave us exposure to ancient Italian history while at the same time giving us the opportunity to live as the Italians do. The facility was clean and well-maintained. The owners were unfailingly warm and friendly. It is an ideal site for someone who wants to tour the Tuscan countryside by car. There are innumerable castles, old cities, monasteries and cathedrals within a one hour drive from Murlo. When I say "castles", I mean real fortifications used by actual knights during the period from roughly 1,100 AD until Renaissence times when Siena was involved in military struggles with neighboring Florence. We visited San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Abbazia di San Galgano, Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d'orcia and Abbazia di Sant Antimo. Siena with its beautiful cathedral is about twenty minutes to the north. We were an odd threesome -- my Father and his friend, both serious photographers in retirement wanted to tour Tuscany by car. There were innumerable opportunities for photography because of the abundance of scenic vistas and ancient ruins. During the six days we stayed here we did not run out of sites to visit. The food at local restaurants was good, and we thought was exceptionally good at the local hotel in Vescovado di Murlo. However, we had a full kitchen at the Villa complete with dishwasher, and this helped to hold down costs during our stay, since we ate in on many occasions or prepared bagged lunches to take with us on day trips to the surrounding countryside. We shopped at the local grocery store in Monteronni D'Arbia, a 15 minute drive to the north. Included in the rental as well is a small backyard garden which offered a beautiful hilltop view of the surrounding countryside. The Castle where the Villa is located also has a sizable museum dedicated to ancient Etruscan archeology, including artifacts unearthed in the hills immediately surrounding the Castle. So, this Villa-within-a-Castle is indeed a highly unusual property. There was only one negative: My elderly father had some difficulty climbing the stairs up to the bedrooms on the upper floor, and it would have been nice if there had been a hand-rail as there was on the stair leading from the street to the lower floor. Apart from that, we have no complaints to offer. We had a delightful stay and enjoyed it thoroughly.

The perfect Tuscan apartment

  • 5 de 5

We stayed for 2 weeks in this charming, comfortable apartment. It was perfectly located for traveling around the countryside visiting hill towns as well as the coast. Sarah and Camillo were excellent hosts and were always there to assist us and give us guidance. The kitchen is large and has all the items necessary to prepare a great dinner. The bedrooms upstairs are quiet and comfortable with lots of space to hang your clothes or put away in drawers. The living room is comfortable with a large fireplace, a great place to hang out after a day of traveling. There are markets nearby, a great bar in Vescovado where all the local men hang out (we drank beer or coffee and used their WiFi). And the Estruscan museum located about 1/4 block from your door was excellent. Highly recommended for a stay in the Toscana region.
