This apartment is as advertised, good location, clean, well-equipped; a good home away from home. Guilherme was very helpful in answering questions when needed. The apartment is an easy walk to the beach, grocery stores, restaurants, and train and bus station (which are 1 minute walk apart). Only down side, not in Guilherme's control, was that there was some construction work being done during the day on buildings nearby; this was quite noisy.
We did day trips 2 Sintra twice on the bus (inquire about a multi trip bus pass if you are going to use the bus more than once - we did not find out about it until we had taken 2 round trips to Sintra. Bus will also get you to Guincho beach area and to Cabo de Roca. Also for Sintra, it is too much to do for 1 day; take 2-3 days and relax and enjoy. Tickets for the Sintra attractions are good for 30 days so you can go back and re-exlore the palaces and gardens if you like.
Train to Lisbon is easy and not expensive but is included on Lisboa card which also gets you in to museums, parks, etc free or at a discount.
We are vegetarians so eating out was a little challenging with everything being very fish and meat centered. Recommend Thai Square just around the corner from the apartment - very good food, nice atmosphere.
Though it is a long trip from North Carolina, we will probably return some day and will very likely return to Guilherme's apartment in Cascais for part of our stay.
Myself, partner, our 11 month Son & my Mother planned on holidaying in Cascais for the 8th time. Usually we'd stay in a hotel but because of traveling with a small child we decided private accomatdation would be better for our needs. I came across the flat almost instantly when searching & we decided it was the one for us.
The flat is ideally located in central Cascais, there is a resuarant 2 houses away (which we didn't try) but the main square with a vast aray of restuarants/cafes/shops is only a 5 minute walk. My only criticism (& this is for the only holiday) was the flat was on a extremily steep hill which the bottom half is cobble stones. With shopping plus pushing a pushchair this was hard work but not un do'able! My legs certainly felt alot more toned by the end of the week. I'd like to suggest though that perhaps this flat is in the best location for the elderly as my 60+ Mum did struggle at times.
When we arrived at the flat we were very warmly welcome by the owners Parent's who kindly showed us around & put together the travel cot in our room which may I add was fantastic & had with it a brilliant mattress. I worried before arrival it would be a very cheap/worn/slightly soiled cot with a very thin mattress as most other accomadations provide but I was pleasantly suprised otherwise. We had the fridge stocked with fresh fruit, milk, juice, preserves & also fresh bread, biscuits & even so far as a bottle of wine... That was such a lovely touch as is so much appreciated after you've spent all morning traveling with a baby.
The flat was spotlessly clean.
The kitchen provided everything you would have at home to use inc tupleware boxes I found very helpful.
The bathroom was lovely & although I admit I'm a girl who does love a bath I was converted after using the shower...it was like standing under a waterfall! I took with us a inflatable bath which we used to bath my Son & found it fitted perfectly inside the shower base (maybe something worth purchasing & keeping at the flat, not expensive). We were shocked at the amount of clean towels provided.
The bedrooms were tastfully dressed & provided plenty of room for clothing to be hung & we even managed to fit our emprty cases inside the wardrboes.
At night we had to sleep with the windows closed at quite abit of noise from the back but this wasn't a issue.
I'm running out of words... Over all very happy & would deffinately use again.
THANK YOU SO MUCH GUILHERME :)
We stayed in this centrally located, spacious and well-equiped appartment for a week, with our two young children (aged 3 and 9 months) and had a fantastic holiday - helped by the great accommodation. We had received good information from Guilherme about the facilities available and its suitability for our needs before we decided to book, and we were not disappointed.
The bedrooms are a good size and comfortable, the spacious hall is great for storage of buggy and all the other equipment and bags needed for travelling with a young family, and the living room and dining area are great family space for eating and relaxing/playing in.
The customer service was also first class. We were met at the train station and on the short walk to the appartment, key facilities and locations were pointed out. The provision of bread, butter, milk, fruit and other goodies was also a lovely touch and meant we could settle in as soon as we arrived without having to head immediately to the shops. Guilherme had also provided us with details of how to travel from the airport to Cascais on public transport and as we had an early departure when we left, he recommended and booked our airport transport for us.
The central location makes everything in Cascais, which is a very child-friendly town, accessible by foot. It also meant we didn't mind walking down to the beach several times in a day (heading indoors back to the appartment or to the small soft-play area at the top of the nearby shopping centre in the midday sun!) and the short walk to the train station meant we could also easily visit Estoril and Lisbon, which we frequently did.
We would recommend this appartment to anyone with young children - there is no bath, which we knew when we booked, but the large shower cubicle was ample sized to sit the boys in and shower them at the end of the day. We had a great holiday and would book this appartment again if we came back to Cascais.
The property is in a great location and is amazingly spacious. All the facilities are fantastic and lovely and clean. Having Guilherme meet you at the train station and walk you to the property is also a great touch to help familiarise yourself with the area. The beaches are great, the local ice creams fantastic, all the food was good but our favourites would be Paradigma (try and book ahead to get a balcony table) and The Chequers.
Sintra and Lisbon obviously both worth a visit.
Couldn't recommend this place any higher - we really loved it.
Our plan was one week of cycling in the area of cascais, sintra and lisbon. We found this apartment in the center of Cascais and it has been perfect. We, four adults with four MTBikes but that was no problem for the space in the apartment. It has two big bedrooms with godd beds and the rest of the house is fully equipped. You will find anything you want in the kitchen for meals and cooking, and the same can be said about the bathroom, with a good showet cabin and lots if towels. Really everything was ok in this sence. On arrival, our host had filled the refrigerator with bread, butter, milk, water, mermalade, cookies, tea, cheese, ham, some fruit and even a bottle of wine. So, You do nit have to go straight to the shops whixh is very nice. Furthermore, we had every help and easy contact with Gulherme who is the oerfect host. So, all well, a very nice apartment in the center of Cascais, a small walk away from beach, shopping center, port and the rest of the main areas of Cascais. The train and bus starion are only minutes away, so I can not reslly see anything negative. We will suely come back to this house if the ocassion arises. We have has a very good and happy week. Even the weather was better than espected. So thanks again to our host Guilherme. Best regards, Marco Mens & family.
We loved this cozy flat in the heart of Cascais, it was clean, comfortable and just the right size. We had no car so being in a walkable neighborhood was very important. This flat was just a few minutes walk from everything we needed and we stayed for three months. We particularly enjoyed our trips to the city market on Wednesday and Saturday morning. We did all of our shopping there, wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables and lovely flowers of every hue. Plus every kind of fresh fish and seafood you could ever hope to find. Not that we always ate at home, we were in walking distance of at least 30 restaurants and a short and inexpensive cab ride to many more.
The train to Lisbon was a ten minute walk away and ran three times an hour and was always on time, getting you there in about 40 minutes. Guilherme Pires was the best landlord helpful, considerate and always reachable by phone, text or e-mail. It was our first trip to Portugal and every wonderful thing we had read about the beauty of the country and the friendliness of its people was true.
