Great Location/Value in Montchavin

*Michael, the owner, is helpful in all ways. Quite casual with the pay, etc (no docs to sign, etc) and provides more than adequate info on the town and amenities.

*Great snowfall week prior and in-week made our skiing experience fantastic. Truly ski-in/ski-out. Montchavin a hike from the 'main' pistes of La Plagne, but itself has a couple of blacks. The run home (blue/red) at 4pm can be a challenge! Montchavin is a GREAT village, Sherpa (supermaket) has as much or as little as you like (charcuterie, bread, cheeses, veg, fruit, limited raw meat, wine, staples, will rent a pierrade, pricey!) and Dos Rond (Charlotte! great staff) is a great bar/busy restaurant. Yes, it's a slippy walk dn/bck from the apt- give yrself 15-20 min each way.

*Agency- (Lamy) pick/drop keys was smooth, staff polite and helpful.

*Lift Tix found right on the main street, also Travel Bureau is avail with help on the Bobsled booking/prices, local activities, etc.

*Not cheapest but convenient and helpful (snowshoeing arrangements, etc) was Intersport (Jean Michel and family), everything available and good english.

*We are a family of 5, kids from 8-12. Great space and view, hot and copious water in showers. Heated drying racks every bathroom. Plenty of towels. Kitchen adequate but not stocked for more than a one-pot meal or something simple. No oven. Waterboiler, microwave.

*Internet. Totally SUCKS, and was a major detraction for me, personally. I need to be in touch and you have to pay at the reception for limited access (only in the reception, only during hours, unless you sit outside, dark, freezing, while online!) which should be addressed.

*Lights. We had a halogen blow while there, and a bulb or two was out, but it did not impact our trip one bit.

*Yes- the back bathroom stinks. Something with the plumbing, toilet-related. Kept the door shut the whole trip and ignored it, not a problem!

*Parking is great- tricky driving/traffic with heavy snow, be prepared.

*Had a KILLER week, great experience for my family.

*Sadly- and to my embarrassment- I received a nastygram from Michael about the checkout conditions after our departure. We wiped, did dishes, dropped towels in tub as requested- but apparently fell short. Be sure to ask for details- though Michael said this was 'Only' the 2nd time it had been a problem. Disappointing.

Resposta do proprietário: Many thanks for the review. For future tenants: Intersport is in our opinion a good outlet for kit - they will give a 20% deposit if you say you are staying in The Trois Glaciers (it does say this in the info pack) - we have now put it on a summary arrival sheet! The internet is available but at the current time only in reception. It is not ideal for us either - though sometimes it is nice to get away from work for a few hours! We are planning on putting in a wireless network for next year. The bathroom - we are just about to go out ourselves and will find out what is going on with the bathroom - the plumbing has been fine when we have been there! (Re the nastygram - we have cleaners going in after all the tenants - in 4 years this is only the second time we have been told that the place was very dirty and took an extra 1-2 hours to clean - I forwarded the e-mail to the tenants - I have paid the extra though in fairness Michael did offer to settle the extra. Without having more details I felt it unfair to pass the costs on.)

Go and enjoy Chez Alex

Just back from a week in Monchavin at apartment Chez Alex.

The apartment is well situated, excellently presented and maintained.

The pre arrival information details are first class to enable you to be sure that you are all set for an excellent holiday

I would highly recommend this accommodation to give easy access to the Paradiski area of La Plagne and Les Arcs and access for daytrips to the 3 Valleys and Espace Killy areas(which can be included in your lift pass)

Excellent appartment

We arrived in the appartement on 05 march 2011 and were more than pleased with it.

When I read in the previous review that there were problems with the table, light bulbes, smell, ... it all seemed to be fixed when we arrived. Granted, the appartement smelled a bit funny upon arrival, but 5 minutes of opening the windows solved it all.

The appartement was realy spacious and luxuorius. A nice suprise.

The walk to the town is not that hard. For the walk back you need to have some energy left. We simply used the car, since the appartement comes with an indoor parking spot (and we put our second car in the parking lot as well, since there was more than room enough).

Overall this appartement scores 90 out of 100.

Next year, we will surely return.

My overall review of the apt is good,but there were some issues that need to be addressed.

We arrived late due to delays and found the apt full of dirty washing/linen that stunk !!!, also 1/2 the bulbs needed replacing. We contacted the agency but they did nothing. We had to open the windows to get rid of the smell. The apt itself is very nice, spacious and modern. Although there was no hair dryer, toaster and the table was broken so you couldn't use it. If your over 5ft 10 then you will struggle in the single beds. We have contacted the owner but he has not replied to us.

You are only allowed in the pool/reception from 5pm-8pm and not in the Sauna/steam room.You are not allowed access to reception during the day,so you cant use the wifi either.Bit annoying really !!!

No snow low down mean't ski in and out was impossible, we had a 200 metre walk in boots down a muddy path. Not nice, but cant be helped.

Montchavin is a nice little village (smells of goats) with some good restaurants but our favourite was Dos Rond. Great bar downstairs and great food upstairs, their lunch time burgers are stunning !!!

The walk back up the hill from Montchavin is a killer, be warned !!! Although we did discover midweek that there is a free bus if you want, but stops at 7pm, so no good if your out at night.

We used Intersport (book online in advance) for ski hire, Whiterides for transfers(very good) and Evolution 2 for lessons (private lessons every time for me now).

Skiing was mixed due to lack of snow, good above 1800 but very icy in alot of places below.Although 1 good dump should solve everything.We are recreational skiers with kids so we found it a real trek to get across to La Plagne. 4 lifts and 45 mins ski at least. We stayed on the Montchavin side mostly and found plenty to keep us busy. Lots of skiing through trees on blues and reds which was great.

Overall I would recommend this apt and area, but the owner needs to make you more aware of the issues, so you know what your getting.

Chez Alex, Trois Glaciers, Montchavin

This apartment is quiet, spacious, well appointed and comfortable.The information and description provided by the owner beforehand was accurate and very helpful. Plenty of room for parents and teenagers to be private or relax together and plenty of cooking / eating equipment.The reception staff are helpful, the sauna, hammam and small swimming pool free to use.The new path from the ski locker makes it ski in if there is enough snow, although slightly uphill for skiing out.It is very convenient for accessing La Plagne or Les Arcs pistes and we were easily able to reach Champagny and Montalbert at the far side of La Plagne,

On the down side: there is a 10 min walk to the village for shopping or ski passes and longer uphill on the way back! Internet is not accessible after 8pm when reception closes, unless you sit outside.The ski lockers are small and difficult to get everyone's skis and boards into (as usual!).

However overall, I would heartily recommend this apartment for convenience, space, good value and pleasant surroundings.
