Sobre esta propriedade

Cabin on historic dog mushing property

This welcoming cabin is situated on the property of historic Trail Breaker Kennel. Trail Breaker is the home of four time Iditarod champion Susan Butcher and her legendary sled dogs. The kennel is still home to 70 actively-racing Alaskan Huskies, many whom are veterans of the Iditarod. There is a small lake on the property, about 100 feet from the cabin. Outside the back door, a woodland trail leads to lovely walks alongside the Chena and Tanana rivers. Just over one mile from the post office and airport, and three miles from restaurants and tourist sites, this cabin is accessible while still being a secluded get-away in the interior of Alaska. The cabin has large windows facing North, which are designed for viewing the northern lights from the comfort of indoors. There is a deck on the northern side, as well. The kitchen is stocked: all utensils, dish ware, bakeware, food storage, coffee pot, full-size refrigerator and oven. The living area has a flat screen TV and cozy seating areas. The main bedroom offers a queen size bed and seating area. The secondary bedroom has a full size bed. The bathroom includes a towel heater for extra comfort.

A Fairbanks Gem!
The Trail Breaker Cabin is a true gem! I’m so grateful that I found this property for my stay in Fairbanks. This beautiful and well-appointed cabin has a fully developed interior with a modern aesthetic. The furniture was comfortable, the kitchen fully stocked, and living room felt spacious with the open floor plan and vaulted ceiling. From the various lighting options to the ample closet space, this well-maintained cabin invites you to make yourself at home away from home. The cabin is located further into the property and is near a lake. I was there at the end of the winter (and lucky enough to see the Northern Lights from the property one night during my stay!) so the lake was completely frozen at the time. I can only imagine, though, how beautiful the lake would be during the warmer seasons. It was the perfect base: the property is conveniently located near the airport (without feeling like you are at the airport), it was easy to get onto the nearby highway, a short drive to grocery stores and into the city center, etc. It’s a great option for having easy access while also being away from it all. The cabin felt secluded without feeling isolated. David was a fantastic host who was quickly responsive and very accommodating throughout my stay. He even had his daughter make contact with me when he was not available to take my call about the keypad lock; she was super friendly and helpful. It was also an honor to stay on the historic property of the legendary Susan Butcher. If you are planning to spend time in Fairbanks, then I highly recommend staying at the Trail Breaker Cabin. I would gladly stay there again!

Sobre o anfitrião

Anfitrião: David Monson

Imagem do perfil do anfitrião
David Monson came to Alaska in 1977 to work as a lawyer for the Alaskan Railroad. After discovering the office life was not for him, he worked as a King Crab fisherman in the Aleutian Islands. In 1980 he discovered a love for sled dog racing and met his future wife, Susan Butcher. Together they ran the Iditarod and 1,000 mile Yukon Quest, along with many other races for over 25 years. After living in the Alaskan wilderness for many years, in 1990, David and Susan purchased the property on which Trail Breaker Cabin sits in Fairbanks, Alaska. The property boarders the Chena River and thousands of square miles of untouched Alaskan wilderness. After a battle with leukemia Susan passed away in August 2006. Her family, including two daughters, operate the kennel and continue the legacy of this historic place.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

The property is very close to the Fairbanks airport and shopping, but, thanks to the trees, the lake and the river, it feels peaceful and secluded. This was the first cabin the family built and called "home" on the property. Because of their expanding family, David and Susan built their current house. Even though they no longer live in this cabin, the family will always be sentimentally attached to this cabin, their first home in the big city of Fairbanks.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

No other cabin in Fairbanks can offer the beauty and peace combined with the easy access to Fairbanks venues that this cabin offers. Sitting on the deck, gaze across the lake watching the wildlife Alaska offers and enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Watch the northern lights from the warmth of the indoors through the two large picture windows. A stay at this cabin would be the icing on the cake for your Alaskan experience
