My husband, 6 year old son and I spent a lovely week in this apartment...with the arrangements handled with the upmost professionalism and responsiveness by Carlos. The apartment is in the heart of the bustling Marais neighborhood. There are wonderful restaurants and shopping right outside the doorstep. We discovered a quaint bakery just a few doors down - a nice place to start the day with fresh croissants and coffee, and my son made it his go-to destination for a macarone treat. Also, the metro stop is an easy walk away...we starting using the metro system on our first full day in Paris and it served us well throughout the week (including to make our way home after the crowds on Bastille Day!).
As for the apartment itself, it is stylish, spacious, airy and very CLEAN. More than enough room for us three. The steps up are no problem for the fit and healthy. The wifi worked well for us and allowed us to keep up with some pending work matters.
All in all, I highly recommend a stay here...and YES, we would do it again!
I've been putting off this review for over a year - only because I felt I could not do it justice! As a first timer to booking accommodation through this website, I was very wary - but the photos in this case are true to life, and Carlos made the experience a pleasure. The building itself is old and dripping in character - climb those 80 plus stairs to the top and it's all good - I promise! Great big windows, solid walls and cross breezes made even a hot July week comfortable. As a private residence for most of the year, the quality of the furnishings and appliances are first rate, and very indicative of the owner's creative flair. Nothing clinical, just-good-enough-for-a-renter here. And the location? Fantastic. While we were finding our feet the first couple of days, we bought a 3 day hop on, hop off pass on the Batobus and explored Paris from the riverside - just a couple of blocks down from the apartment. Coming home after a long day touring, we found the Marais bustling with activity, plenty of places to eat and shop for cooking at home. We were travelling as an extended family group, 5 of us aged from 10 to 75. So yes, those stairs are manageable, and the positives are more than worth it. We just looked at it as part of the experience.. and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Carlos, for a wonderful experience.
This apartment is FANTASTIC. It is a beautifully decorated home located in the very centre of the Le Marais district of Paris. It's filled with an eclectic collection of books, art and the highest quality furnishings and accessories. The kitchen and baths (yes, there are two bathrooms - a rarity in Paris) are very modern and everything is spotlessly clean. The photos on this web site are accurate and up to date. We are a family of two adults and two big teenagers and we had plenty of space and enjoyed our week in this apartment tremendously.
Aside from the apartment itself, the location is perfect: Le Marias is an exciting, historic district in the very centre of old Paris with narrow, winding mediaeval streets and alleys filled with intimate cafes and restaurants. The apartment is only 10 minutes walk from the Saint Paul metro station or 15-20 minutes walk from the Louvre or Notre Dame. You just can't get more central than this.
Just one potential concern to be aware of: This apartment is on the top (4th floor) of an historic building and there are about 80 steps to climb so it may be unsuitable for elderly or disabled persons. Of course, the benefit of being on the top floor is you have a wonderful view over the roof tops and the tiny winding streets of old Paris (circa 1600's/1700's). The reality is that every apartment building in Paris will have steps to climb (none of these historic apartments have elevators) so if you don't mind climbing a few extra steps, this is a truly exceptional apartment!
Last comment: Carlos is a wonderful host. Professional, multi-lingual, prompt and courteous. He even assisted a family travelling with us in locating an apartment rental nearby, even though it wasn't his property - a true gentleman.
We are so happy that we chose your apartment for our week long visit in June. Our family of five (from San Francisco) were very comfortable in this spacious duplex. It is decorated beautifully and we enjoyed the antiques, paintings, sculpture, art books and admired the furnishings very much. It was like our own very private art museum and were surprised to find such a charming place with incredible views of Paris rooftops. We had our morning croissants & coffee and in the evening had cheese and wine tastings. We especially admired the beautiful plates, glasses, etc that were chosen with care to give a very French feeling to the kitchen. And enjoyed the very comfortable living room couches while watching a few of the FIFA 2014 soccer games on the big screen tv. We didn't need to leave the neighborhood; a great bakery, a cheese and pate shop, a chocolate and 2 ice cream shops were on the same block as well as excellent restaurants. We did venture away from 42 rue Vieille du Temple and it's just a short walk to the Carnavalet Museum, Place de Vosges, the Pompidou, the Seine, convenient bus routes and of course shopping on Rue Rivoli and Rue St Antoine. The D'Orsay, Louvre, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Parc des Buttes Chaumont and Sacre Coeur filled our eyes with wonder while exploring your magical city. We need to return soon for a longer visit and settle back in at our new home away from home! Thank you.
I wish Carlos had not asked for a recommendation so we could keep his place secret and not share it with anyone. You literally emerge in the dream place once you have climbed the few healthy floors.
The apartment is large, comfortable and spacious with abundant light over the toits de Paris. it has a real fully loaded kitchen, a dining room to sit 8 and a large living rom. The bedrooms and bathrooms are more comfortable than the ones in many 4 star hotels in Paris. And all this located in the very center of the Marais, the most vibrant quartier de Paris!
You can walk almost everywhere from the apartment starting with a breakfast in the pedestrian rue du Trésor before a 10 minute walk to Notre-Dame and the Quartier Latin. Back in the Marais, we enjoyed the best Jewish food around the corner in the pedestrian rue des Rosiers, and then walked to the early XVII century Place des Vosges.
As opposed to many places where you can stay in Paris that are small and where you feel a bit claustrophobic, Carlos’ apartment offers the volume and the space you need to recover from a full day in Paris. Magical said my kids!
We highly recommend this apartment. It is very well maintained and even more beautiful and spacious than the photos suggest. The neighborhood was fascinating, with so much to explore nearby. It was an easy walk to many sights, including Maison de Victor Hugo, the Louvre, and Notre Dame. We enjoyed a lot of the local restaurants, such as L'as du Falafel, Le Dome du Marias, Les Philosophes, Les Mauvais Garcons, and Pink Flamingo. The crepes on Rue des Rosiers were amazing. From our very first contact, Carlos was a pleasure to deal with. He was quick to respond to any questions. His housekeeper was very helpful, as well.
