When we arrived, we were truly bowled over by the beauty and scale of the views on offer. It has to be seen in real life to be appreciated. The beaches are clean and the water very warm and clear, ideal for scuba diving.
The villa itself is like home from home, air con, comfy beds, clean linen and it is surprisingly big and welcoming.
There is a lovely power shower and it's all very clean and there is a choice of reading material and dvds to watch if you decide to have a night in.
The tavernas are a short walk away and there are other good walks on the island as well as the Monastery to see. If you want to travel further, you can hop on a boat to the main land, get on a bus or taxi to visit the local sights and tavernas or taste the local food.
All in all, a very enjoyable holiday!
The villa is in a lovely, private spot overlooking the sea which is much closer than it looks on the photographs. Everything you need is supplied and the villa was very clean and tidy. It is very peaceful and tranquil on the island. There are some lovely beaches for swimming or sunbathing, and pleasant walks. The traditional tavernas are a short walk away. They are both friendly places and the food is good. This island is a little gem and you will come back - like we have done. It is well worth making the trip!
After an easy nad pleasant flight from Manchester we arrived at Volos Airport. Trikeri island was an easy ferry ride across the bay, but we opted for a hire car and a scenic two hour drive around some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Greece!
The short ferry ride from the headland to Trikeri island took us right to the jetty on which we unloaded our cases ready for the short walk up the track to "The Look Out"
We were not disappointed!! The villa is part of a small and exclusive complex and holds a spectacular position with superb views across the turquoise bay!
With a spacious garden and barbeque area we enjoyed our breakfasts on the balcony and late night " nightcaps" after a superb meal at Taverna Nicos, a few minutes walk away.
The villa is air conditioned throughout, comfortable lounge, and a " real" mattress in the main bedroom ( no more "Greek backache here"!!!
Well stocked and maintained, it was everything and more the owners promised!
The real " gem" however,is the islands peace and tranquility - no cars, or roads! Even the dustbins are emptied by " Donkey power"!!
With its beautiful plants and foliage, hidden beaches, and clear blue reefs, Trikeri Island slowly shared it's secrets which included some quality snorkelling. If you didn't fancy a dip then we used the villa''s fishing rods and lazily let them rest in the water at sunset while drinking a bottle of wine - what could be finer!!!
The island's two tavernas and a quiet bar were fully open while we were there and we used the car to explore the Pelion when we needed a break from all the peace and quiet!!!!!
All in all a real Greek island where time seems to stand still!! - friendly people ( everyone knows each other and are only to willing to help you!) and a perfect chance to unwind and recharge your batteries!!!!
My partner and I have just returned from Trikeri and The Look Out after one of the most peaceful, relaxing and rewarding holidays we've ever had.
The Look Out is very well equipped for creature comforts, the A/C was welcome and the kitchen for foodies is well equipped. Cleaned to within in an inch of it's life prior to our arrival, the bathroom has a great, powerful shower just perfect for washing away the salt before an ouzo on the balcony and 'that' view.
The Look Out is a 100 paces from the sea and yet affording the best view of any villa of the gulf and Pithou, the small unihabited island opposite. We sat here most of the time just drinking in the blue, blue sea and sky, watching the little boats come and go. It is certainly one of the best views in 30 years of Greek travel.
The small bay/harbour of Ag. Sophia is great for swimming and the small bay 100m to the right is also lovely, and often deserted. As there are no cars on the island, and most travel around by small boat, or on foot (it's less than 1km across and 2.5 km long) it's essential to come here for nature, peace and quiet - no clubs, boom boom or nightlife to speak of, only the 2 tavernas at 10 minutes walk serving the freshest fish at very reasonable prices. A 'new' shop selling everything you could need in terms of food and drink has recently opened and makes a welcome addition to the services available for the holiday maker. There are ample cafes and amusements on the mainland if you really need a more cosmopolitan fix; the boat taxi will take you to Alogoropus, and a short taxi ride gets you to the bus service accessing the rest of the Pelion.
Trikeri is not the easiest island to get to, we managed with no car, and backpacks, but this is its virtue - imagine Robinson Crusoe with amenities - and the reason it stays as peaceful and quiet as it does. We rented a small boat to explore the island and nearby coast for some 'wild swimming', and some of the best adventures we've had. The water is so warm, and clear and still, we saw masses of marine life, and even an octopus whilst swimming in shallow waters.
If you long for the Greece of 30 years ago, and a place to unwind and enjoy the natural landscape, with the option of accessing more action if desired, this is the place for you. Thanks to Gail and Nic for having the foresight to choose such a lovely place, and then make it so easy to be there with their lovely villa - it was truly blissful.
