Das Haus ist urig und gemütlich. Ein Teppich am Essplatz waere schön, da es sonst etwas fusskalt ist.

Sweet but distinctly damp

The cottage had everything we needed and the accommodation suited our needs. It was well equipped including WIFI and a washing machine. It was warm with comfortable beds. There is no bathroom or toilet on the first floor which was a nuisance when you have young children. The outside space at the front of the cottage isn't as the photo suggests here; it is a rather dank, dark space due to heavy foliage plus the cottage sits just back from the main road; not particularly safe with young children or pleasant enough to use.

There is a distinct smell of damp as soon as you open the front door and the unpleasant smell engulfs the front room and dining area off the kitchen. For this reason alone I would not re book this cottage. One of my children suffers with asthma and another had an unfortunate attack of croup while we were there. Damp accommodation was really not conducive to their condition, hence we spent very little time in the cottage during the day.

We have taken your concerns very seriously and we are addressing the issues you raise in your feedback in advance of our next booking. The living room, dining area and stairwell are being completely redecorated, and any damp patches will be treated. We have employed a gardener to cut back shrubs to maximise sun light to the garden. Usually after the winter period (when the cottage remains empty), we personally take responsibility for preparing our cottage for the holiday season. Every year we have been able to spend time repainting, spring cleaning and making sure the garden area is immaculate. However, due to unforeseen family circumstances we were unable to do so this year and we entrusted the preparation of our cottage and garden to an agency which has clearly let you and us down. In our description of Goosebean Cottage on HomeAway, the cottage has a garden to the front of the house. The garden is enclosed and is set back from the main road by 20 meters or so. The garden is as shown in the main photo (mid morning) apart from a fence which was erected a few years ago designed to give the garden additional privacy from the cottage next door. The cottage has also been repainted a paler shade of yellow than is shown in the photo. You were our first customers of the season and we would like to pass on our sincere apologies. We have been renting our cottage to holiday makers since 2007 and have only ever received positive feedback. Furthermore, previous holiday makers (and our own family) have loved spending time in our cosy cottage which is warm, inviting, comfortable (close to fantastic beaches and sights) and (apart from on this occasion) damp free! We would like to reassure future parties who have booked a holiday in Goosebean Cottage that all issues raised by you are currently being expertly addressed.

Clean we'll kept cottage

We spent 6 days here in September 2016, we found that the cottage had everything we needed. It was in a great location to get around Cornwall, although we never spent a great deal of time in the cottage it was always a nice place to come back to. The amount of literature in the cottage for things to do was a great help. We found parking ok there is a free car pack less then 2 minutes from the cottage. It was so good we are booking up again for next year.

Lovely old cottage close to stunning Cornish coast

We stayed at Goosebean Cottage over Easter 2016 when the weather included high winds, heavy rain and hail. The cottage was a great place to stay for weather like that - warm, comfortable, cosy, well-lit and draught-free even though it is very old with thick stone walls.

The cottage was immaculate, freshly decorated and with pretty seaside-themed accessories. The kitchen is very well equipped and provisioned. The beds and linen are very good too. There is a lady available locally in case of any problems.

Word of warning - tall people need to watch their heads in the bedroom doorways!

The street parking was generally fine and, on the occasions when all spaces were taken, we parked in the little car park which is free overnight. We believe that the street parking is now up to 2 hours between 9 and 6 with no return for 4 hours. So not a problem unless you want to spend the whole day at the cottage. And we never saw the cars being checked.

Locally:

The co-op just down the road is great for shopping, with good opening hours. There is a big Tesco just as you go into Wadebridge and another at Padstow.

The beaches and cliff walks are all within about 20 minutes drive with stunning views and good beach cafes for coffee and cake. Good for bird watching too - we've never seen and heard so many skylarks. The coastal walk from Trevone to Padstow is stunning and worth saying hello to the volunteers in the coastal watch station who will tell you all about their work.

The Cornish Arms at St Merryn is a smart Rick Stein inn with excellent traditional pub food. The Watergate Bay Hotel has a good brasserie with lovely views over the sea. It also owns the Beach Cafe down on the beach where we had a good brunch watching the surfers. Lewinnick Lodge above Fistral Beach in Newquay is excellent too.

Goosebean Cottage - a lovely property

A lovely cottage with plenty of room, clean and tastefully decorated.  Beds were very comfortable (which is always a bonus).

St Columb Major is a great market town with plenty of shops all within 5 minutes walking distance (Lloyds TSB, Co-op, 2 butchers (lovely burgers), a Chinese (very nice), 3 pubs,  2 fish and chip (great cheesy chips).

The village is in a great location for Watergate Bay ( 6miles), Mawgan Porth (4 miles), Newquay (9miles) and Truro (16 miles). The main A30 and Atlantic Highway are only a few minutes drive away which makes exploring Cornwall easy.

Street parking limited to 1/2hr from 9am - 6pm. Public car park around the corner charges from 8am-5pm Monday to Saturday 50p for 1 hour or £1 for 3 hours. This was a problem as most days we left by 9am.

The only thing would would have liked to have in the cottage was an iron and board.

Housekeeper most helpful when we a problem with the bath and was rectified immediately.

We had a lovely stay and thank you for letting us stay at Goosebean Cottage.
