Staying at Gloucester Place is like visiting the home of very good friends whose house just happens to have a spectacular view of the Caribbean, a refreshing swimming pool, and a garden populated by tropical birds. Your charming and attentive hosts, Bea and Win Sargent, start you off each morning with a terrific breakfast, assist you with everything from car rentals to laundry to restaurant reservations, lend you books, and generally go out of their way to help you navigate and enjoy Tobago. Both are fountains of friendly information and advice about where to go and what to do. Both seem to know and like everyone in and around Parlatuvier and Castara (and vice versa). Having lived in such diverse places as Iran, Sri Lanka, Venezuela and North Carolina, they are well prepared by temperament and experience to embrace visitors from all over the world. Indeed, sharing breakfast and conversation with fellow guests from England and Canada was an unanticipated highlight of our stay. We have stayed in a lot of b&b's in a lot of places, but none better than this. We look forward to coming back.
We recently had the great pleasure to stay with Win and Bea at Gloucester Place, and we can certainly recommend this lovely oasis to anyone considering a stay in the Parlatuvier area. Win and Bea, apart from running a very efficient, clean and pleasant home from home, are both passionate and knowledgeable about Tobago and about this stunningly beautiful corner of the island. Thanks to both of you for a very memorable stay. We fully intend to return next year, and we look forward to seeing you then.
Beatrice and Wynn our hosts have created a wonderful and relaxing place to stay, they themselves are warm and attentive hosts who go to great lengths to ensure that their guests fully enjoy their stay. We really enjoyed getting to know then and spent a whole week enjoying the close proximity of the rain forest and ocean. I would highly recommend staying here in this until spoilt end of the Caribbean
We stayed for two weeks in Essex Cottage, the self contained annex of Gloucester Place.
The holiday was made for us by the kind and friendly assistance of owners Wyn and Bea starting from our welcome supper on arrival. We also sampled Bea's wonderful breakfast (yummy banana pancakes) and on one occasion fresh fish barbecued by Wyn.
We were given lots of tips on what to do and where to go, such as buying fish on the jetty and dining out at Joanna's in the village. The rum punches at Glasgows Bar round the corner were great, as was the view from the bar terrace.
The location of Essex Cottage was fairly remote (great for us) and we enjoyed shopping at the local shops and stalls and meeting some of the locals.
The pool at the property was welcome, although not as warm as the sea!
All in all a wonderful holiday in a beautiful location with perfect hosts.
My wife and I absolutely loved this place. It is possible to stay B&B in the main house and enjoy the most wonderful balcony area to relax and take in the breathtaking views of garden and nearby cliffs. However we elected to self-cater and stay in the cottage, which in orientation, is like the house in minature. A true home from home, with balcony and similar views. The cottage is well equipped with clean, comfortable furniture and linen, excellent bed, and delightful kitchen with lots of ingredients to get you started. From the cottage, there is a very pleasant stroll through the terraced garden to the small but perfectly formed infinity pool, for generally cooling off or just enjoying the sunsets. You have the famous Glasgow bar and restaurant nearby, and an easy stroll into Parlatuvier village and beach which was for us, the most scenic and peaceful part of the island. (And also, with a car, pretty well central for most things). One more thing, Bea and Win are the perfect hosts. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. We had tried various grades of accommodation during our visit to Tobago, but Gloucester Place was by far the best in all areas. Highly recommended and we will certainly return.
The island of Tobago is a most wonderful getaway with Parlatuvier Bay being one of our favorite bays on the island. The vacation gods must have overseen our choice of accommodations as we fell into the perfect location with a breathtaking view and amazingly hospitable hosts. Bea & Winn not only offered a home cooked dinner on our first night of arrival, but provided excellent hiking, snorkeling and sightseeing suggestions. They lent us snorkel gear, helped us exchange money and Bea personally escorted us to a local trail head, where their Wonderdog led us on a trek up waterfalls and through dense foliage. The modestly priced cottage at Gloucester Place offered a peaceful and breathtaking view of palms, banana trees, vivid flowering plants and the distant sea. Winn brought us fresh fruits in the morning from their property. We loved the open air kitchen and bedroom that provided just enough privacy. Downstairs was another more private bedroom for our friends, but most of our time “at home” was spent on the deck relaxing, reading and enjoying happy hour. The cottage stay is not for those who expect air conditioning , but then I would recommend staying at the main house. The dipping pool, available to all guests, was quite refreshing! The only pitfall with the open air cottage was the loud bus that rolled past around 7:30 am, but the birds were already singing for us at that hour. The Gloucester Place was perfect for our party of 4 who were more interested in exploring the beauty of the island and meeting the locals than frequenting the busy tourist spots near the airport. There were plenty of beautiful beaches nearby with excellent snorkeling and tasty local food. You could hike from Gloucester Place down steep stone steps to Parlatuvier Bay where we bought fresh fish when the fishing boats docked and enjoyed “liming” with the locals to calypso music. Castara offered fun beach dining with steel drums, limbo and a drum circle. Bea and Winn are active in the community tutoring the children; so at the mention of their names, the locals took care of us. Our hosts were like having a personal friend/travel agent/tour guide all wrapped up in one. We so enjoyed their company, but they were careful to maintain their guests’ privacy. We highly recommend The Gloucester Place and cottage because it is a most lovely place to vacation, but it is so because Bea and and Winn have the special gift of welcoming, caring for and enjoying their guests. Relax and take in Tobago!!
